Chapter 33 - 33

{THIRD PERSON POV}

"Jaune!" Mordred ran up to Jaune's curled body and picked him up.

"Shit! We gotta go to Mom!" Mordred was panicking like hell because she had never seen Jaune this hurt before. Not even the injuries he got when he unlocked his Aura had made him in this much pain.

But before she could take a step toward the door, she stopped when she heard Jaune's soft, pained whisper.

"Mordred... no... not Mom...." It took a lot of Jaune's strength to even whisper those words.

Mordred turned her head to Jaune and glared at him. "The fuck do you mean, not Mom!? You're fucking hurting, you stupid blonde fuck!"

She thought Jaune was being ridiculous, because what he needed was Mom to heal him from whatever the fuck was causing him pain.

Jaune shook his head at her. "No... Aura... don't... work..." As if to prove a point, he activated his Aura.

'The fuck does he mean by Aura not working? If Aura doesn't work, then Mom's Semblance won't work either! Shit! From what Jaune told me years ago, Mom's Semblance works by pushing her Aura into another person's body and using her Aura to heal them. The effect of her Aura healing could be said to be ten times better than if you use your own Aura. She could even reattach a limb, depending on how long it had been detached for! So how the fuck does he mean Aura isn't working!?' Mordred was even more panicked than before, because if Aura really did not work... then what would?

Mordred then slowly and gently put Jaune on top of his bed. "Shit... what the fuck happened, Jaune..."

Her eyes widened as she remembered something. "Did you use your Aura thingy!? The one you used before you used Reinforcement?!" How the fuck did she forget about that technique thingy!? That should give her answers about what happened to Jaune, and maybe that's why Jaune didn't want Mom to heal him... because he already knew the cause of all of this shit.

"Yeah.... Stru... structural... analysis..." Jaune let out a tired breath. "Water.... on... table..."

Mordred quickly grabbed the glass of water on top of his table. It was probably for whenever he got thirsty in the middle of the night and was too lazy to go downstairs and get himself one. That was fucking smart.

"Here. Drink it. After that, you're telling me what you found out." She gently lifted Jaune's head and slowly tipped the glass to his mouth until he finished it.

"Now fess up, or I'm putting you in a chokehold." She glared at him, not out of anger, but out of worry, because who could blame her? Imagine trying to wake up your brother for breakfast and finding him curled up on the ground, holding his chest in pain-the same brother who could fake not having a broken arm at nine fucking years old.

"I... there... there is nothing... nothing is wrong..." Jaune's answer surprised her by a fuck ton, because what did he mean by nothing? This was clearly not nothing.

"Jaune... you better explain before I throw you out the window..." Mordred could feel her hand shaking, not out of anger, but out of fear. She didn't like seeing Jaune like this. 'Stop shaking, you stupid fuck. Don't let him see you scared. You're supposed to be strong, not weak. Stop fucking shaking.'

No matter how hard she tried to stop, she couldn't. Her body just wouldn't do what she told it to do.

'Please, goddammit, stop it!' Her eyes started to glisten with tears, which Jaune quickly noticed.

"Mordred..." Jaune softly called out, and Mordred's body stiffened. "Don't... cry..."

Mordred wanted to shout at Jaune that she wasn't crying, but all that came out were choked whimpers.

Seeing his sister crying, Jaune couldn't just lie there anymore. He tried his best to sit up. "Come here... it's okay..."

Mordred's wall started to crumble, and she threw herself at Jaune and hugged him. "I thought you were dying, you asshole!" She started to cry into his shoulder. "You weren't this hurt back then! What the fuck happened?! Did you go out alone again!? Why didn't you tell me!?"

While she cried even harder against him, Jaune's chest tightened.

He didn't know if it was his imagination, but his heart hurt even more when he saw Mordred crying. He always hated it when he made Mordred cry, and he had made her cry more times than he wanted to admit. The last time she cried like this was when they had their first fight after he unlocked his Aura.

But this time, it wasn't his fault. He didn't do anything dangerous last night. He didn't even train last night because he was studying. He didn't know what to say to Mordred other than that he really didn't do anything and that he didn't even know what had happened to him.

"Shh... shh... it's okay, Mordred..." He patted her back. "And I promise you, Mordred, I didn't go out last night. All I did was study a little, and that's it."

She sniffled and pulled back from Jaune. "Then how? You're hurt, Jaune, so how?"

Jaune let out a sigh before shaking his head. "I... I don't know. I woke up after having a weird dream... and suddenly my heart felt like it was being stabbed..."

Mordred tilted her head at him. "Another weird dream? Is it like the one you told me about?" Jaune had told her about his weird dream. "The blonde girl and the brown-haired man?" She wiped the tears from her eyes.

Jaune nodded. "Yeah... but this one is a bit different. In the dream, I was talking to a purple-haired man who wore purple armor, and there was this girl... I can't remember her name because I was too busy on the ground in pain... but she jumped at me. I don't know why. I know she said my name. After that, I immediately woke up, and my heart felt like it had been stabbed."

"That's weird. You got any inkling on why? Not why you have those weird-ass dreams-all dreams are weird. Last night I was dreaming of something..." She had dreamt of becoming a seal and swimming in the ocean. "Yeah, something indeed. What I mean is: do you have any hunch why your heart feels like that?"

Jaune nodded. "Yeah... I don't know how or why... but I know someone died. That's why it hurts. I don't know who... but someone died."

"Shit... you sure?" Jaune nodded at her. "Then... double shit."

"So... why were you here?" Jaune asked, because, frankly, he was too tired to ask anything else.

"Mom asked me to wake you up for breakfast. Damn... now that I think about it, this is basically what happened back then too, when I found you the morning you unlocked your Aura, but this time it's your heart that got hurt, not your whole body." Mordred let out a short breath.

"Can you stand, or do I need to tell Mom that you're just sleepy?" She stood up and looked at him.

Jaune shook his head. "No... no need. I'll go down and eat breakfast. You being here made it hurt less..." Jaune let out a tired sigh before he tried his best to stand up. It was a little wobbly, but he was standing. "Come on. Let's not worry the others."

Mordred's brow tightened. "If you weren't hurt, I would've smacked you on the back of your head for scaring me. I thought you were dying, dumbass."
