Aren noticed the change before anyone said anything.
It wasn't dramatic. No sudden hostility, no obvious shift in treatment. But the way eyes lingered on him now—just a second longer than before—told him enough.
Attention had found him.
He stood with Team Eleven at the mission assignment board, posture relaxed but awareness fully engaged. Lee bounced lightly on his feet, brimming with energy as always, while Tenten scanned the posted missions with a practiced eye.
"Looks like we're moving up," she said. "More C-ranks lately."
Lee pumped a fist. "Excellent! The flames of youth burn brighter with challenge!"
Aren said nothing, but he had already noticed the subtle details: the glances from other genin, the murmurs that cut off when he looked their way.
Reputation is forming, he thought.
That's a double-edged blade.
The system chimed softly.
[Status Update: Social Recognition Increasing]
[Effect: Opportunity Gain ↑ / Risk Exposure ↑]
As expected.
They weren't the only ones aware of it.
Across the room, Ino stood with Shikamaru and Choji, arms crossed loosely as she pretended not to listen to the conversations around them.
"…that's him," someone whispered.
"Team Eleven's tactician."
"They say he predicted a trap before it happened."
Ino's gaze flicked toward Aren almost instinctively.
So it's spreading, she thought.
Shikamaru noticed. "You're staring."
"I'm not," Ino replied immediately.
Choji munched on chips. "You kind of are."
She clicked her tongue, annoyed. "I'm just… curious."
Shikamaru hummed. "Troublesome."
They weren't the only ones aware of it.

Aren felt her eyes on him.
Not intrusive. Not probing.
Just present.
It created a strange effect—his awareness sharpened rather than scattered. The system noted it immediately.
[Mental State: Stabilized]
[External Variable: Yamanaka Ino – Non-Hostile]
He exhaled slowly.
This is becoming consistent.
Consistency meant pattern.
Pattern meant predictability.
And predictability could be used.
Team Eleven was called forward shortly after.
A simple escort mission. Borderline C-rank, with the possibility of complications.
Aren reviewed the details quickly.
"Bandit activity reported," Tenten summarized. "Nothing confirmed."
Lee grinned. "If bandits appear, we shall defeat them with youthful vigor!"
Aren nodded once. "Remain alert regardless."
The system agreed.
[Mission Risk: Moderate]
As they departed the village, Aren felt a familiar presence draw closer.
Ino walked past them, heading in the opposite direction, then slowed just enough to speak without turning.
"Be careful," she said.
Aren paused. "We will."
She smiled faintly and continued on her way.
Tenten raised an eyebrow. "You two know each other?"
"Yes," Aren replied simply.
Lee beamed. "A connection of youth!"
Aren ignored him.
The mission passed without incident—mostly.
Aren identified suspicious terrain early, adjusting their route to avoid a potential ambush zone. They encountered nothing more dangerous than a few wary civilians and signs of recent movement.
Still, Aren remained vigilant.
The system stayed quiet but watchful.
[Decision Accuracy: High]
When they returned to the village near dusk, fatigue set in—but so did confirmation.
Aren's judgment had been correct.
Again.
Ino learned about the mission before Aren even returned.
Rumors traveled fast.
He's consistent, she thought as she watered the flowers outside the shop.
That's rare.
Most shinobi her age were reactive. Emotional. Impulsive.
Aren wasn't.
That made him… stable.
And stability was something she unconsciously gravitated toward.
Careful, she warned herself.
Understanding turns into attachment if you're not paying attention.
Later that evening, Aren crossed paths with her again near the edge of the village.
Coincidence.
Or not.
"You came back safely," Ino said.
"Yes."
She studied him. "You don't look relieved."
"Relief implies doubt," Aren replied.
She smiled. "You really don't doubt yourself much, do you?"
"I doubt constantly," he said. "I just don't let it paralyze me."
That answer stayed with her.
As they spoke, the system updated quietly.
[Bond Evaluation: Stable]
[Effect: Mental Load Reduction – Minor]
Aren acknowledged it without comment.
This connection isn't interfering with combat effectiveness, he concluded.
That alone makes it acceptable.
Dangerous.
But acceptable.
"I should go," Ino said after a moment.
Aren nodded. "Good night."
She paused. "…Good night, Aren."
The way she said his name carried weight.
Not expectation.
But intent.
As she walked away, Ino felt oddly certain of one thing:
This isn't a distraction.
It's a slow alignment.
Aren watched the village lights flicker on as night settled.
Attention was growing. Variables were increasing.
But for the first time, he didn't feel the need to withdraw completely.
Some things, he decided, were worth observing up close.
