ENJOY YOU SEXY BASTARDS
---------------------------------------------------------------------
As the years went by, people still said the bastard was more Stark than most of her children. Catelyn wanted to have everyone who said that flogged, but a part of her knew they were right. The bastard and her daughter Arya were the most Stark of all. Dark hair and grey eyes, people said her little girl looked like Lyanna Stark.
Her husband and his brother Benjen had been more charmed by Arya than by any of their other children. Catelyn knew Arya was her husband's favorite, even if he didn't say so, and for Benjen, it was the bastard and her daughter.
" The boy has wolf blood like Brandon," Benjen told her husband one time when he stayed at the castle; she had had to stifle an insult towards her brother-in-law when she heard him say that.
" What do they know about Brandon?" she said to herself as they ate.
"Aye, he is acting too much like Brandon and Lyanna," her husband replied with a sad look as he glanced down at the tables below where the bastard was sitting, he was never allowed to eat at the high tables, that was done by her.
Catelyn wondered why people kept saying the bastard had wolf blood. They never said it to Robb or any of his other true children; it was always for the bastard. Robb was also like his uncle Brandon: charming, a good fighter, and very good with words, like Brandon, who could make you blush like a damsel with his words.
But the bastard was serious and smiled very little, unlike Brandon. Most of the time he was calm and spent his time riding, training with his sword or sharpening it. The only thing I could say that he resembled Brandon was his explosive temper and that women were crazy about him.
The bastard and Greyjoy never got along; they were always fighting each other, especially Theon, who constantly insulted the boy, calling him a bastard.
But when the bastard was fifteen, the squid insulted his mother, and that was the moment the wolf snapped. He beat her husband's ward so badly he was bedridden for several days. That fight reminded her of when little Petyr and Brandon had fought. Ned had had a long talk with the bastard, and the boy was furious with his father for defending Greyjoy instead of him.
When the bastard was sixteen, Jeyne Poole was in love with the bastard. She had seen the look of adoration that Vayon Poole's daughter had towards the bastard; she looked at him as if he were a prince, and the bastard knew it. Catelyn and the septa had ordered Jeyne that she was forbidden to approach the bastard.
As the days went by, she wanted to know more and more why people said the bastard had wolf blood. She spied on him from afar, watching his every move, and it was always the same question.
"How is he similar to Brandon?"
She knows that the bastard visits the town's brothel, just like her son and Greyjoy.Catelyn is no fool; she has heard the maids say that Ros doesn't charge the bastard for his services. She hears them murmuring about whether he is such an excellent lover that the whores don't charge him.
She asks herself that question: Is the bastard really that good in bed? And as soon as she asks the question, guilt hits her; she has never thought about another man and would never be unfaithful to her husband with another man, much less with a bastard.
She and her husband were on the balcony watching their son Robb teach his little brother how to shoot a bow. Robb draws the bow, and when he releases the arrow, it veers off course, making Robb sneer. The other laugh is the bastard's, a playful laugh that fills the yard. She's never paid much attention to the bastard's voice or laugh, but his laugh is quiet and reminds her a little of Brandon. She closes her eyes slightly and can almost hear Brandon laughing, a mug of beer in his left hand.
As soon as she opens her eyes, she sees her husband, and he must have thought the same thing, because it's as if he's seeing a ghost. When she looks down at the courtyard, she sees the bastard staring at them. Her husband doesn't smile at the bastard, and neither does she, but the bastard looks at them and gives them a mocking smile, making her blood boil with anger. How dare he smile at the Lord and Lady of Winterfell?
No sooner does she glare at the bastard than an arrow flies out from the back, and it is her daughter Arya who shot it. Robb and the bastard's laughter fills the courtyard, and she has had enough of this for today.
She spends the rest of the day away from the bastard . She has spent the last moon watching him and monitoring everything he does; she already knows his schedule, she knows what time he goes out to the yard to train and what time he goes to bed, and she knows when he goes out to the city to fuck with whores.
But the question still lingers in her mind: how is he like Brandon? Not in appearance. The bastard looks like Ned and is far more handsome and taller than any Stark.
She hates him with all her being, but she has to admit the bastard is very handsome. She's seen his temper and agrees with Brandon. He's also stubborn, to the point of contradicting his own father, which has earned him beatings from Ned for disobeying.
He's also a wild horseman, having ridden since childhood. He's an excellent swordsman, and according to Ser Rodrik, he could be the best in the North, Some commoners even say he could be the next Ser Arthur Dayne reborn.
When dinnertime arrives, her whole family is at the high table, and when she looks for the bastard at the tables below, she sees that he is not there. She wonders where the bastard has gone; he is always at dinners, turning towards them with the desire to be among them, but now he is not. Robb and Arya notice the absence of their half-brother, and their eldest son says something to the Greyjoy that makes him laugh.
"Robb, where is Jon?" Arya asked her brother.
Robb struggled not to laugh at his sister's question.
"He's most likely inside Estella," Greyjoy muttered, believing no one heard him, and when Robb hit him under the table he knew everyone had heard him.
"I don't know, Arya, he's probably around here and has dinner later tonight," Robb said.
Catelyn knows who Estella is, a servant with honey-colored hair and green eyes, one of those who sleep with the bastard. None of the maids talk about who sleeps with the bastard; they all pretend not to know who has been in his bed when asked, and therefore they can't know if it's true enough to fire them. Not even Robb tells her who they are.
The only time they've heard of any of the maids is when Estella's name slipped out of Robb's mouth once while they were training in the courtyard. The bastard had been angry with Robb, and Theon had been annoyed, saying that he had tried to sleep with her for half a year and never succeeded. If there's one thing she has to give the bastard credit for, it's that he has never boasted about which women he sleeps with.
