Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Reborn as the General’s Useless Daughter

Death came without warning.

One moment, Shen Qingyu was crossing the street beneath a flickering traffic light, her thoughts drifting toward unfinished work and an ordinary dinner. The next, there was the blinding glare of headlights, the shrill scream of brakes, and then—

Nothing.

When consciousness returned, it did not bring pain.

It brought suffocation.

Her chest felt tight, as though something heavy pressed down on her ribs. The air was stale, tinged with the bitter scent of medicinal herbs. Shen Qingyu tried to inhale deeply, only to find her body slow to respond. Panic flared briefly, but years of hard-earned self-control forced it down.

Calm. Assess first.

She opened her eyes with effort.

This was not a hospital room.

Dark wooden beams stretched overhead, carved with patterns worn smooth by time. Pale curtains hung loosely around a narrow canopy bed. Sunlight filtered weakly through a paper window, illuminating dust drifting in the air.

Shen Qingyu froze.

The word echoed relentlessly.

Understanding settled in her chest with chilling clarity. She had not survived the accident. She had been reborn.

This body belonged to Shen Qingyu as well—the third daughter of General Shen Yanwu, a man revered and feared across the empire. Yet unlike her father's reputation, this girl's life had been defined by weakness and neglect.

Physically frail. Untalented in martial arts. A disgrace beside her capable siblings.

The original Shen Qingyu had lived quietly, enduring indifference and disappointment, until her fragile body finally gave out.

And now I'm here instead.

Anger did not rise. Neither did despair.

Only resolve.

Shen Qingyu closed her eyes, steadying her breath. She was no child, regardless of this body's frailty. She had lived once as an adult, learned patience through hardship and endurance through neglect.

If this world measured worth by strength alone, then she would survive long enough to redefine that measure.

Not through loud defiance.

Not through reckless revenge.

But through quiet persistence.

Footsteps passed outside her door without pause. No one checked on her. No voice called her name.

Shen Qingyu opened her eyes again, gaze clear despite her weakness.

The general's "useless" daughter had awakened.

And the world remained unaware
