Chapter 83 - Promotion to Chūnin in the Rain Hidden Village?

The Rain Hidden Village.

An experience point that had to be farmed.

What opinion could he possibly have? As a player, he naturally judged everything by experience yield and item drops.

After changing his class to Hunter, his love for the Rain Hidden Village ran deep—plenty of good stuff could only be farmed here.

Of course, saying that out loud was absolutely not an option.

If he dared say that, Hanzo would dare to put on a live demonstration of splitting a man in half.

And that "man" would almost certainly be him.

Comparing the strength gap between the two sides, Hyuga Arin felt it was best to apply a bit of artistic processing.

After some careful thought, he said,

"In my view, the Rain Hidden Village is crying."

Hanzo's interest was piqued. This was the first time he had ever heard someone describe the Rain Hidden Village like that.

"Explain in detail."

By this point, Hyuga Arin already had a prepared speech in mind.

"To talk about the Rain Hidden Village, we must first talk about the Land of Rain. The Land of Rain sits at the intersection of three great nations and is treated as a buffer zone by them. The ninja villages subordinate to those three nations continuously inflict damage upon the Land of Rain."

"The Rain Hidden Village, as the guardian of the Land of Rain, failed to resist the attacks of the three great ninja villages. Instead, it allowed them to run rampant across the country. Worse still, the Rain Hidden Village is even engaged in internal strife."

"As a guardian that cannot protect anything, the Rain Hidden Village can only continue crying."

This entire speech was tailored to Hanzo's psychology.

He didn't fully understand this version of Hanzo yet—but what Hanzo would go on to do later, Hyuga Arin knew all too well.

Leading a small village like the Rain Hidden Village to directly confront the three great ninja villages, even striking into their territory—this was unprecedented in the history of the ninja world.

If the Rain Hidden Village had simply turned a blind eye and ignored the actions of the three great villages, it would have suffered little loss itself. The one truly hurt would have been the Land of Rain.

Yet even so, Hanzo still stepped forward.

That alone proved that Hanzo stood up for the sake of the Land of Rain.

Although Hanzo ultimately failed, he still instilled fear in the three great ninja villages. During the Third Great Ninja War, they completely abandoned the Land of Rain as a battlefield.

His madness made the great villages wary—and allowed the Land of Rain to survive the Third Great Ninja War in relative peace.

Hyuga Arin believed the title "Demi-God" was not an acknowledgment of Hanzo's strength, but rather fear of his insanity.

Hanzo was extremely satisfied with Hyuga Arin's answer—it struck straight at his heart.

The Rain Hidden Village was crying, yet as his teacher, the village leader Zhengzang was completely blind to it.

All Zhengzang wanted was to tightly grasp power over the Rain Hidden Village.

Jealous of talent, envious of the capable—and now even trying to eliminate him in secret.

The leader of a ninja village, yet he couldn't see as clearly as even a genin.

No—not a genin anymore.

A chūnin.

A mere chūnin saw things more clearly than Zhengzang ever had.

The purpose of the Rain Hidden Village's existence was to protect the Land of Rain.

He, Hanzo of the Salamander, was the true justice of the Rain Hidden Village.

The more Hanzo looked at Hyuga Arin, the more satisfied he became—though he didn't show it on the surface. He simply waved his hand.

"Alright. Go with Murakami Hua to collect your equipment, and familiarize yourself with your responsibilities."

"Yes!" Murakami Hua and Hyuga Arin replied in unison.

Murakami Hua led Hyuga Arin to the equipment room…

—or rather, to the counter of the equipment room.

Hyuga Arin watched as Murakami Hua stepped forward and said to the ninja behind the counter,

"One chūnin set, please."

Are you ordering food here or what?

No—really.

Hyuga Arin looked on in heartache as the two communicated. Hiruzen had let him take whatever he wanted—so why was it a fixed combo meal here?

Murakami Hua shrugged. "No choice. Our funds are limited. All equipment is issued in standardized sets."

The staff member went through a small door in the back and placed a bag on the counter.

"Chūnin set: two kunai, twenty shuriken, three explosive tags, two steel wires, one respirator mask. Check it."

Are you feeding a beggar?!

Then where did all of Hanzo's explosive tags come from later on?

Hyuga Arin knew full well that Hanzo would ignite massive wars later—and those consumed an enormous number of explosive tags.

"Once Lord Hanzo becomes the leader of the Rain Hidden Village, we'll finally be well-off," Murakami Hua sighed.

Hyuga Arin understood.

So all those explosive tags Hanzo used later came from the Rain Hidden Village's inheritance.

Life really was hard right now. Equipment only became plentiful later on.

But by then, whether he'd still be in the Rain Hidden Village was anyone's guess.

Zhengzang—you really deserve to die.

Even so, Hyuga Arin quietly packed the equipment away.

A mosquito's leg was still meat. This at least slightly replenished his arsenal.

He'd have to be more careful using equipment in the future.

Murakami Hua waved to the staff and led Hyuga Arin away from the equipment room.

They walked to the intelligence office on the same level.

Inside were many small partitions. Murakami Hua pulled open a curtain and led Hyuga Arin into one of them.

Inside, two rows of shelves were filled with scrolls. On the table in the middle lay summoning scrolls.

"Intelligence is divided into four levels: A, B, C, and D. As a chūnin, levels C and D are open to you. Once you're promoted to jōnin, you'll gain access to B-rank intelligence. A-rank intelligence is only available to Lord Hanzo and his closest confidants."

Murakami Hua casually grabbed a scroll from the shelf and tossed it to Hyuga Arin.

"This is C-rank intelligence—mostly information about other ninja villages."

"B-rank intelligence concerns matters that critically affect the Rain Hidden Village. A-rank intelligence concerns situations where the Rain Hidden Village could potentially be destroyed."

Hyuga Arin nodded. For him, C-rank intelligence was the most crucial.

Konoha didn't care about the Rain Hidden Village's fate.

He opened the scroll in his hands—it detailed the movements of the Sand Village.

The Sand Village had already begun pushing deep into the Land of Rain, establishing frontline bases.

"What exactly triggered the Second Great Ninja War?" Hyuga Arin frowned. The Sand Village's actions were far too aggressive.

At present, Konoha was still in a probing phase. Establishing forward positions was mainly a precaution.

But the Sand Village was clearly preparing to start a full-scale war.

Year 37 was when the Second Great Ninja War broke out. The Rain Hidden Village didn't join until Year 38.

That meant the war initially had nothing to do with the Rain Hidden Village.

As for which of the Five Great Ninja Villages struck first—he didn't know.

"Can I read these here?" Hyuga Arin waved the scroll in his hand.

Murakami Hua smiled. "You seem pretty concerned about the outside world."

"Well…" Hyuga Arin sighed helplessly. "It's closely tied to the Land of Rain."

That statement was correct. If the great ninja villages went to war, the Land of Rain couldn't possibly remain uninvolved.

"I remember you grew up outside the village," Murakami Hua patted Hyuga Arin on the shoulder. "Go ahead and read. Just remember to put everything back where it belongs when you're done."

Grew up outside the village?

Why didn't he know that?

Ah—he meant Muyu, not Hyuga Arin.

Then it was fine.

Murakami Hua left without disturbing him further. Hyuga Arin immediately immersed himself in the intelligence room.

This place really shouldn't be called the Intelligence Office.

It should be called Hiruko's Happy Room.

Everything here was exactly the kind of information Hiruko needed.
