Chapter 62 - Why Is This Class Change So Full of Twists?

Originally, this game had pay-to-win features.

Especially during the closed beta, most rewards were obtained through gacha-style microtransactions. Hyuga Arin had only spent a little, yet managed to draw the Byakugan.

Bloodline limits like this could be used by any class—the only difference was the type of energy consumed.

Pirates consumed stamina, Hunters consumed aura, and Ninjas naturally used chakra.

In the game, the type of energy bar made little difference to the Byakugan's basic functions. However, it had a significant impact when synthesizing it into the higher-tier Tenseigan.

If it consumed stamina, ninety percent of the Tenseigan's skills couldn't be used. If it consumed aura, about half of the skills were disabled.

Only the Ninja system could unlock the full set of abilities.

That said, if you were willing to spend money, you could pay to unlock dual classes. As long as one of them was Ninja, the impact wouldn't be nearly as severe.

This was also one of the reasons Hyuga Arin chose the Hunter class—because, in theory, he already counted as having dual classes.

After unlocking dual classes in-game, the two energy bars would merge into one, allowing the player to learn and use all skills from both classes.

However, experience in the game was limited. While spending money could unlock certain content, everyone's experience gain rate and methods were roughly the same.

Having two classes meant using the same amount of experience as everyone else to raise two different professions.

This had a huge impact on PvP balance, but greatly enhanced the gameplay experience.

It depended on personal preference.

But for Hyuga Arin, this was already the real world. Just how far two classes could take him depended entirely on how he developed them.

Aside from gacha and dual classes, there was one last pay-to-win element.

Beyond Pirate, Ninja, and Hunter, there were two additional classes that could only be obtained through spending money.

Someone like Hyuga Arin, who had only lightly spent, obviously hadn't recharged much. As a result, the final two classes were shown in black-and-white, marked as unavailable for class change.

The first image showed a man dressed in black robes, holding a long blade, facing a towering monster head-on.

Above the image were two words:

Shinigami (Death God).

This was the pay-to-win class: Shinigami. After class change, it unlocked an energy bar called Reiatsu.

It came with a top-tier weapon by default—a Zanpakutō. It was an extremely powerful class that crushed the three main classes in the early game.

In the late game, due to balance adjustments, the differences between the major classes became negligible.

The corresponding region for Shinigami was the Land of Demons, where Shinigami-exclusive skills and the growth-type weapon Zanpakutō could be farmed.

Zanpakutō themselves had no class restriction, but they could only drop from Huangquan, possessed by Mōryō, the boss of the Land of Demons.

To farm a Zanpakutō, you either had to wait until the timeline reached that point, or arrange for someone to accept Mōryō's possession themselves.

The second black-and-white image depicted a man with flames erupting from both hands, facing a giant dragon.

This was the pay-to-win class: Mage.

After changing class, it unlocked an energy bar called Mana.

It also came with a top-tier skill by default—Dragon Slayer Magic.

The corresponding drops and skills were tied to Iwagakure Village, though no one knew what connection Iwagakure had to Mages.

But that was game design for you.

None of this had much to do with Hyuga Arin anyway. Without spending money, these two classes weren't open to him.

"If I could change to Shinigami, I might even be able to remove the Caged Bird Seal," Hyuga Arin sighed.

And in the early stages, the Shinigami class was incredibly strong. The only downside was that skills were hard to farm—you needed the terracotta soldiers of the Land of Demons to drop them.

While browsing the game forums, he'd even heard that the developers originally planned to add a Dragon Ball Warrior class, but it was scrapped for being too setting-breaking and unbalanced.

There were, however, some new classes that would only be unlocked at the time of open beta.

The game announcements mentioned only two: Swordsman and Cursed Sorcerer.

The former's skills could already be farmed during the closed beta and weren't class-restricted. The latter was still in the design phase—supposedly there were places in-game where its items could drop, but none had been officially revealed.

The guides he'd read didn't mention it either.

After reviewing all five classes, Hyuga Arin made up his mind and selected Hunter.

[Change class to Hunter: Yes / No]

"Yes."

[Class Change Quest Activated]

[Please complete the class change quest within the time limit. Failure will result in the Hunter class being revoked.]

Hyuga Arin: "???"

Wasn't the quest system already gone? Why was it popping up again?

He'd been overjoyed, thinking the class change was about to succeed. What the hell was this?

A quest column appeared on the panel in front of him.

[Class Change Quest: Complete the Hunter Exam within one month.]

Hyuga Arin: "???"

Where was he supposed to find a Hunter Exam?

He knew class changes involved quests, but he hadn't really looked into that side of things—he'd focused more on drop information.

Where the hell was he supposed to take a Hunter Exam?!

This was the Naruto world, not Hunter x Hunter!!

"Teacher, what's wrong?" Nagato couldn't help but ask when he saw Hyuga Arin's furious expression.

Hyuga Arin took a deep breath. "Nothing."

Glancing at the distance, they were already quite close to Nagato's home. "Your house isn't far now. You can head back yourself—I'll be leaving."

The game system was clearly pulling some nonsense on him.

He had to get back and figure out exactly what was going on.

If he couldn't change class, he wouldn't be able to remove the Caged Bird Seal. If he couldn't remove it, he'd never escape the Main Family's control—and that would completely destroy his plans.

Without another word, he turned and left.

Nagato stared at Hyuga Arin's disappearing figure, opened his mouth, then scratched his head in confusion.

"Did I do something to upset Teacher?"

Hyuga Arin returned to the tower and immediately buried himself in his room.

Sitting cross-legged on the bed, he frowned and studied the panel in front of him.

"How am I supposed to do this quest? Where am I supposed to take a Hunter Exam?"

He couldn't help but speak aloud to the panel.

Unfortunately, the panel didn't even have a basic AI—it couldn't answer him at all.

He could only turn his attention back to the quest prompt. Soon, the quest column changed again.

[Begin Hunter Exam: Yes / No]

"So… does this mean it wants me to transmigrate again?" Hyuga Arin fell into deep thought.

If he really had to transmigrate again, it would have a huge impact on his future. The key issue was how time would be calculated.

If time passed at the same rate, it would affect his situation in Amegakure.

Tomorrow, he was supposed to accompany Murakami Hana to meet Hanzo. Hanzo was a crucial figure for the entire Hidden Rain Hidden Village. If he missed this opportunity, he might not get another chance so easily.

"I'll leave it for now and decide after meeting Hanzo," Hyuga Arin gritted his teeth and chose not to accept immediately.

After all, he still had a month.

First meet Hanzo, then take a leave of absence. At the moment, all factions were in a strange state of calm. If he disappeared for a while, it wouldn't have too much of an impact.

"Why didn't the game include even a basic AI assistant…"

Hyuga Arin felt frustrated. If it had, he could at least get answers to basic questions instead of being stuck in this passive situation.

Checking that the leveling system was unaffected, he confirmed that he could still level up normally.

"Everything can wait until after I meet Hanzo."
