Chapter 22 - Kill Him

While moving, Xavier decided to take a look at his updated status window.

[Name: Xavier Crownheart]

[Age - 21]

[Ranking - 990]

[Level: 15 | Race: Human | Class: DeathWill Executioner | Title: First Legendary Class Holder, Bane of Humanity, Hoarder]

[Strength: 41 | Agility: 47 | Health: 38 | Stamina: 42 | Mana: 130]

[Freely distributable stats – 35]

His status window had taken a huge leap from when he first fought the Executioner Zombie. The strength which was barely above ten points had quadrupled. And just how long had it been? Barely a few hours had passed and his strength had taken a leap that he could not imagine.

"I had just fought a monster weighing thousands of kilos..."

Xavier muttered with a slight awe in his tone. Even if he had the DeathWill Executioner Aura helping, he would not have been able to achieve these feats if he had a weak mind. However, this was not important. What truly mattered was this was achieved in just a few hours after the apocalypse. He could not even imagine just what would happen a few days later or months later.

Moreover, what about the ordinary people? His family? His little sister, Emily.

Mom was already heartbroken after the Morgan family threw me in jail on false charges...

Just thinking about the Morgan family made anger burn hotter than the forest behind him.

After another moment he managed to calm down. Hmm, if the words of others are to be believed, there is some way of connecting with our family at the army camp... Maybe I will be able to find some information...

While he was thinking, the world blurred past him. Any zombies that dared to block his path were directly killed without mercy in one hit.

Xavier actively used his full strength in each attack to make sure it was a perfect execution; otherwise, the streak would reset to zero and he would also lose all the bonuses.

After running for some time, he noticed the walls of Fort John army camp appearing in the distance.

As his stats had gone up, not only did his strength go up but other things such as reaction time, vision, and other things were also vastly improved.

So Xavier couldn't stop himself from frowning when he noticed something strange.

Compared to pure chaos going everywhere, Fort John army camp looked completely unaffected. There was no sign of smoke around it, nor any monster trying to climb its walls.

Very strange... Xavier found this observation to be greatly unsettling.

Fort John.

Standing atop the watchtower, Commander Jackson watched the crowd gathering outside the walls, his attention turning to the man in the white coat standing beside him, scribbling something on the notepad.

"How is the situation, Dr. Mike?" Commander Jackson's voice was sharp but heavy; there was even a hint of elation in his tone.

The man he addressed as Dr. Mike fixed his rimless glasses, faintly nodded his head, and said in an excited voice, "The result is beyond our expectations. It seems the decision of the New Alliance was really for the best outcome that we could wish for. It had only been a few hours and a few humans have actually managed to evolve and reach the First Sequence..."

Commander Jackson nodded his head, his gaze moving toward Lucy sitting in one corner. Even though she had calmed down, the medics didn't dare to get close to her.

The scene of her easily overpowering all of his soldiers flashed through his mind. At that time he had accidentally made eye contact with her; just one look, and Commander Jackson felt his blood run cold. If it wasn't for his years of experience on the battlefield... He hurriedly shook his head, not even wanting to imagine the scene.

The next moment, he sighed. It was difficult to imagine; a day ago this woman would have been any normal human.

Just as he was about to continue thinking, his intercom suddenly rang. "Commander Jackson! This is Control Center speaking. Considering the developing situation, a member of the Alliance would soon join you..."

Hearing those words the expression on Commander Jackson's face eased; finally, backup was arriving.

It was becoming difficult for him to control the changing situation; the number of new awakeners arriving was making it difficult to control the situation.

Suddenly a frown appeared on his face as if remembering something. "Any contact made with our neighbors?"

Dr. Mike paused for a brief moment as if gathering his thoughts, then he said in a low voice, "Oh, that elf tribe? Huh, the party sent to scout this place had also disappeared. It seems our neighbors are not as friendly as we earlier thought..."

At that thought Commander Jackson's expression darkened. Damn those long-eared bastards.

Some dozens of kilometers away from Fort John, a tribe of elves had appeared silently, and from the few points of contact, they were not friendly at all.

Down below, soldiers carrying weapons in their hands moved to and fro shouting loudly, trying to maintain order and help the crowd calm down.

"I will repeat my words again: People who have awakened their class to the left and ordinary people to the right..."

"Please cooperate in these chaotic times. The least you can do is behave like exemplary citizens..."

Aron, Millie, and Jackie slowly moved toward the left. Compared to the crowd on the right, this line had barely any people, no more than ten.

The eyes of all the people present were filled with complex emotions, a hint of relief mixed with suspicion.

Millie moved closer to Jackie and hushed in a low voice, "Doesn't this look really fishy? It almost seems as if the government was already expecting the world to change..."

Although Aron didn't want to admit it, he also nodded his head. The way the soldiers seemed to know about everything, from class to skill—everything pointed to this. If it was all, it would have been understandable, but he even saw soldiers discussing about the Alliance and the Grand Plan.

For a brief moment, a complicated look flashed in Jackie's eyes. She did not say anything but simply nodded her head.

Just like them, the other awakeners were also discussing in hushed voices. However, the ordinary people seemed too busy surviving to notice this; some of them even cried tears of joy when the army finally started distributing food.

Just at this time, a cold and firm voice came from ahead.

"Abyssal corruption 10! ...Kill him..."

These words had barely registered in their minds when one of the soldiers opened fire in point-blank range, blasting the head of the awakener standing just ahead of Jackie's group, the brain juices scattering all around.

A terrifying silence enveloped the surroundings.
