Chapter 84 - Chapter 84: The Shadow

The world, still healing from the chaos of the previous battles, now stood in a fragile calm. Lys and his allies had taken the first steps toward rebuilding what had been lost, but deep down, he knew it wasn't over. Peace had come, but it felt hollow, as if the shadows of the past still clung to the corners of the earth.

For Lys, every moment of relief felt like it was undermined by the memory of the Eclipse's forces, the Eclipse King, and the Architect's destruction. But the world was changing. The landscape, cracked and ruined by war, was slowly coming back to life. The sky was clear again, but Lys could feel the weight of the darkness that still lingered in the air.

It began with a sudden shift in the air, a deep and cold shiver that ran through the ground like the first tremor of an earthquake. The shadows stretched unnaturally, twisting and pulling toward the heart of the ruined city. Dark tendrils of energy slithered across the walls and streets, as though the very fabric of reality was starting to bend.

Lys stopped in his tracks. His senses screamed at him. Something was wrong.

"Lys…" a voice echoed in his mind. "Did you truly think you could escape me?"

The voice was chilling, resonating from the very darkness itself. Lys turned sharply, his hand instinctively reaching for the gravity power that had become second nature to him. The world around him seemed to fold inward, as if the universe was contracting into itself.

And then, Kareth emerged.

His form was shifting, constantly changing as though his very essence was made of darkness. His body was composed of shadows, fluid and ever-changing. Where his face should have been, there was only an endless black void, swirling with golden specks like distant stars. His presence was oppressive, cold—an oppressive aura of fear and power that threatened to consume everything in its path.

The ground beneath Lys's feet cracked and shifted, his gravity powers struggling to hold back the crushing force emanating from the Incarnation of Shadows. The entity before him was a manifestation of the fear that had taken root deep within the world—of failures, despair, and unresolved conflicts.

"You cannot run from me, Lys," Kareth's voice purred again, this time sounding almost like a whisper in Lys's ear, echoing in his mind. "I am the darkness inside you. The fear that lives in your heart. The shadow you cannot escape."

Lys gritted his teeth. Kareth was no ordinary opponent. He wasn't just a force of destruction; he was the embodiment of everything Lys had feared and tried to overcome.

"I've already beaten you," Lys spat, his hand glowing with the energy of gravity as he prepared to fight back.

Kareth's form shuddered and then solidified into something more terrifying—a towering figure composed of living shadows, extending tendrils of darkness toward Lys. With a roar, the shadows twisted and formed a bladed weapon, slashing toward Lys's chest.

But Lys was quick. He used gravity manipulation, pushing back against the darkness with sheer force. The shadows recoiled as if in pain, but Kareth wasn't defeated. He seemed to regenerate—like a vortex, his body shifting to absorb every strike Lys delivered.

"You cannot defeat me with your petty powers, Lys," Kareth sneered. "I am born from the fears of the world, from the emotions you try to hide. You cannot escape me, for I am a part of you."

Lys knew Kareth was right in one way. The Shadow Incarnation wasn't just some external enemy. It was an enemy that fed off his greatest insecurities. Every strike, every movement he made, seemed to be blocked by the manifestation of his own fear.

The battle turned from physical combat to a battle of wills. Kareth began to taunt Lys, pushing him deeper into the recesses of his own mind.

"Your failures. Your inability to protect those you love," Kareth's voice echoed inside his mind, "They are what make you weak."

The Shin Dragon's power surged within Lys, pushing back against the darkness. He was no longer the same. He had embraced his fears and transformed them.

With a deep breath, Lys reached deep within himself. He felt the pulse of the Shin Dragon's essence inside him, radiating with the power of lightning and gravity.

"I am not afraid of you," Lys shouted, his voice rising with newfound conviction. "You are just a shadow. And shadows can be dispelled."

Lys extended his hand, channeling gravity to manipulate the space around Kareth. The dark tendrils attempted to envelop him, but Lys forced them back. The force of gravity shifted, pulling the shadowy entity toward him.

As the light of the Shin Dragon and gravity energy collided, Kareth's form flickered, his body flickering between his true form and the twisted manifestations of his deepest fears. With a final surge of energy, Lys thrust his palm forward, unleashing an overwhelming burst of Aetherium.

The shockwave caused the very air to bend, disrupting Kareth's form and forcing him into the Void. The shadows screamed, writhing in agony as Kareth was sucked into the darkness from which he came, his form dissolving into nothingness.

But as Kareth faded, Lys felt something shift inside him. He had faced his deepest fears, his darkest shadow, and now, he was free. The weight of the fear that Kareth embodied was gone, but Lys knew that this battle wasn't over. The shadow was a part of him, just as the light was.

Kareth was gone—for now. But Lys could feel the world still trembling under the weight of the darkness. Kareth had been an incarnation of fear—and that meant the battle for the soul of the world was just beginning.
