Chapter 75 - chapter 13

BOOK THREE: THE FALL OF THE FIRST KINGDOM

Chapter 13: The Chamber of Farewell

The staircase descended into complete darkness.

Unlike every place the Six Heirs had explored before, this passage felt heavy.

Not with evil.

With sorrow.

The air grew colder with every step.

No flowers bloomed here.

No silver butterflies danced through the air.

Only silence remained.

---

Riva noticed the walls were covered with handprints.

Hundreds of them.

Adults.

Children.

Even tiny handprints belonging to infants.

Each had been pressed into the stone before it hardened.

Eva carefully examined them.

"These aren't decorations."

"They're goodbye messages."

---

Ancient words slowly appeared beneath the glowing handprints.

"We leave together."

"We do not fear tomorrow."

"Protect those who come after us."

Parna gently touched one of the carvings.

"It's like the entire kingdom passed through here."

The First Guardian nodded quietly.

"They did."

---

The passage finally opened into an enormous circular chamber.

Six white pillars surrounded the room.

Each pillar held a crystal flame that still burned after thousands of years.

In the center stood a giant stone table.

It wasn't used for feasts.

It was a map.

An enormous map of Aurelia and the surrounding Gates.

Every road...

Every village...

Every forest...

Every river...

Perfectly carved into stone.

---

Aarvi slowly walked around the table.

"This must have been where they planned everything."

The old gardener smiled sadly.

"No."

"They didn't plan a war."

"They planned a farewell."

---

The First Guardian stepped toward the map.

He gently placed his hand on Aurelia.

The entire chamber came alive.

Golden light spread across the table.

The Six Heirs watched another memory unfold.

---

The Chamber was filled with people.

Not soldiers.

Not nobles.

Ordinary citizens.

Teachers.

Farmers.

Blacksmiths.

Doctors.

Artists.

Every seat around the table was occupied.

No one argued.

No one shouted.

They listened.

At the center stood the First Guardian.

Beside him stood Caelus.

Both looked exhausted.

---

The First Guardian spoke.

"We have searched every path."

"We have tested every possibility."

"There is no safe solution."

Silence filled the chamber.

Then an elderly woman stood.

"If leaving protects our children..."

"Then we leave."

A young father nodded.

"If disappearing saves the future..."

"Then history can forget us."

One after another...

Every person stood.

Not a single voice objected.

The Six Heirs watched in stunned silence.

The decision had belonged to everyone.

---

The memory shifted.

Caelus stepped forward.

"There is one final problem."

"If we all leave..."

"Who will remember why?"

The room became quiet.

The old gardener lowered her head.

Even the First Guardian had no answer.

---

Then...

A young girl raised her hand.

She couldn't have been older than ten.

"What if someone comes looking for us someday?"

Caelus smiled.

"Then we'll leave them clues."

The little girl grinned.

"Like a treasure hunt?"

The entire chamber laughed.

Even the First Guardian smiled.

"Yes."

"A treasure hunt."

"But one that only kind people could finish."

---

The memory faded.

The stone chamber returned.

Riva slowly looked around.

"So every relic..."

"The notebook."

"The compass."

"The sword."

"The Staff."

"The shield."

"The flower..."

"They were never weapons."

The First Guardian nodded.

"They were invitations."

---

Suddenly...

The crystal flames around the chamber flickered violently.

A cold wind swept across the room.

Arcturus immediately raised his sword.

"We're not alone."

---

A shadow appeared near the entrance.

Then another.

Then dozens more.

Dark figures emerged from every corridor.

They wore ancient Aurelian armor.

Their faces were hidden beneath cracked helmets.

Each carried broken weapons.

Yet none attacked.

Instead...

They silently knelt before the First Guardian.

Lucien lowered his sword.

"They're... bowing?"

The Guardian's face filled with sorrow.

"I know them."

---

He slowly walked toward the nearest figure.

"This is Captain Rowan."

"He protected the eastern villages."

He looked at another.

"Commander Elia."

"She never lost a single citizen."

One by one...

He remembered every name.

The shadowy soldiers slowly began glowing with silver light.

Their broken armor disappeared.

Their faces became peaceful.

They weren't monsters.

They were memories waiting to be remembered.

---

The soldiers saluted the First Guardian.

Then they turned toward the Six Heirs.

Captain Rowan stepped forward.

His voice echoed softly.

"The Promise lives."

"We can finally rest."

One by one...

The soldiers dissolved into thousands of silver lights.

They floated upward like stars.

The chamber grew brighter.

---

Eva looked at the First Guardian.

"They weren't trapped."

"They were waiting."

He nodded.

"Waiting for someone to remember their names."

---

Before anyone could speak...

A loud grinding noise echoed beneath the stone floor.

The giant map split down the middle.

Ancient gears turned.

A hidden platform slowly rose from below.

Upon it rested a beautifully carved crystal chest.

Unlike the relics...

It had no lock.

No hinges.

Only six glowing symbols.

The symbols of the Six Heirs.

Riva stepped closer.

"It's waiting for us."

The Six Heirs placed their hands on the matching symbols.

The chest opened with a soft click.

Inside...

There was no weapon.

No treasure.

Only six letters.

Each sealed with silver wax.

Each addressed to one of them by name.

Lucien stared at the letters.

"They were expecting us..."

The First Guardian smiled.

"No."

"They were hoping."

Riva picked up her letter.

Before she could break the seal...

The entire chamber shook violently.

A deafening roar echoed from somewhere far below.

The First Guardian's smile disappeared.

His eyes widened.

"No..."

"It's too early."

Arcturus gripped his sword tightly.

"The deepest seal has broken."

The old gardener whispered a prayer.

Far beneath the Chamber of Farewell...

An enormous pair of stone gates slowly began to open.

Golden light spilled into the darkness.

From beyond the gates...

A calm, ancient voice echoed upward.

"Has the Covenant finally returned?"

The Six Heirs stood frozen.

The next answer awaited beyond the deepest chamber of the First Kingdom.
