Chapter 52 - chapter 20

BOOK TWO: THE KINGDOM BEYOND THE GATE

Chapter 20: The Throne of Dawn

The six pillars of silver light pierced the heavens.

They rose from the Silent Observatory like beacons, crossing the crimson sky before merging into a single golden star.

The crystal sphere in Eva's hands floated upward.

The Eighth Key in Aarvi's hand answered with a soft blue glow.

Together, they formed a bridge of light stretching beyond the clouds.

Its destination was clear.

The Throne of Dawn.

---

The Devourer's enormous hand continued moving toward the Observatory.

Where its shadow passed, time itself began to decay.

Ancient clocks rusted within seconds.

Marble floors cracked.

The stars above faded one after another.

Alaric looked at the collapsing tower.

"We have only one chance."

Cassian shouted,

"Everyone onto the bridge!"

Without hesitation, the Six Heirs, Caelum, Cassian, Argos, Alaric, the Crown Collector, and the future Lucien ran across the glowing bridge.

Behind them, the Silent Observatory shook violently.

A gigantic gear broke loose and disappeared into the endless sky.

The Observatory had protected time for thousands of years.

Now...

It was dying.

---

As they crossed the bridge, the scenery around them changed.

Instead of clouds...

They walked through memories.

To Riva's left, she saw the orphanage where she had grown up.

Children laughed in the courtyard.

The image dissolved like mist.

To Eva's right appeared her grandmother, smiling as she held out the mysterious compass.

She faded before Eva could reach her.

Parna saw endless forests blooming with flowers.

Aarvi saw her uncle carving the mysterious box.

Lucien saw the First Kingdom standing proudly beneath a golden sunrise.

Each memory was beautiful.

Each memory disappeared as they passed.

Alaric spoke softly.

"The Bridge of Dawn is built from the happiest memories of every world."

"The Devourer cannot cross it."

"Why?" Eva asked.

"Because it cannot consume hope."

---

Hours later...

A golden island appeared before them.

Unlike the Silent Observatory, this place felt alive.

Ancient trees covered the landscape.

Silver rivers flowed through fields of glowing flowers.

Birds made of pure light flew across a sky where dawn never ended.

At the center stood a magnificent palace carved from white crystal and gold.

Above its entrance were ancient words.

Eva translated them aloud.

"May those who rule choose compassion before power."

Queen Riva closed her eyes.

"I remember this place..."

Future Lucien whispered,

"I remember losing it."

---

The great gates opened by themselves.

No one touched them.

It was as if the palace had recognized the Six Heirs.

Inside lay an enormous throne room.

Seven crystal pillars surrounded a single throne.

The throne wasn't decorated with jewels or gold.

It was simple.

Elegant.

Carved from one piece of white stone.

Behind it grew an enormous silver tree.

Its branches reached through the ceiling into the sky.

Golden leaves slowly drifted through the hall.

Parna smiled.

"The tree..."

"It's alive."

Caelum nodded.

"It has witnessed every ruler of the First Kingdom."

---

As Riva stepped toward the throne, her pendant floated into the air.

Lucien's Star Mark began glowing.

Eva's crystal sphere rotated.

Aarvi's Eighth Key floated from her hand.

The four artifacts circled the throne together.

Suddenly...

The tree released thousands of glowing leaves.

Each leaf became a memory.

The throne room filled with silent visions.

Kings making promises.

Queens protecting children.

Guardians swearing loyalty.

The construction of the Gates.

The birth of the Sanctuaries.

Then...

Every vision stopped before revealing the final event.

The fall of the First Kingdom.

The memories turned white.

Nothing could be seen beyond that point.

Queen Riva lowered her head.

"So even this place refuses to reveal it."

Caelum answered firmly.

"And it never will."

"The truth of the Kingdom's disappearance belongs to another story."

Everyone nodded.

The mystery remained untouched.

---

Suddenly—

The silver tree trembled.

One golden leaf floated into Riva's hands.

The moment she touched it...

A voice echoed through the throne room.

"The Heart recognizes its heir."

The white throne began glowing.

Riva instinctively stepped backward.

"I don't want a throne."

Queen Riva smiled sadly.

"Neither did I."

"The throne doesn't choose rulers."

"It chooses protectors."

---

Before Riva could answer—

A violent explosion shook the palace.

The front gates shattered.

Darkness poured inside like a living storm.

The Devourer's shadow had found another way.

From the darkness emerged hundreds of masked figures wearing black armor.

Each carried a broken sword.

Each wore the crest of kingdoms that no longer existed.

The Crown Collector's expression darkened.

"The Lost Kings..."

Alaric whispered,

"I thought they had all been erased."

The leader of the armored figures stepped forward.

His crown was broken in half.

His eyes burned with violet fire.

He raised his sword toward Riva.

"The Heir of Dawn..."

"...must surrender the Heart."

Cassian drew his blade.

"No."

Argos stepped beside him.

"Not while we stand."

Future Lucien smiled.

"I've waited a lifetime for this battle."

Queen Riva unsheathed her silver sword.

"So have I."

The Crown Collector raised his black staff.

"This time..."

"We protect the future."

The Six Heirs stood together before the throne.

Their Star Marks ignited in perfect harmony.

The silver tree behind them blazed with golden light.

Outside the palace...

The Devourer's countless eyes opened wider.

It did not send another army.

It simply watched.

As if waiting for one decision.

One choice.

One person.

Then, from deep within the throne itself, a hidden chamber opened.

A small crystal appeared, floating above the seat of the Throne of Dawn.

Inside the crystal was a heartbeat.

Slow.

Steady.

Alive.

Alaric stared at it in disbelief.

"The Heart of the First Kingdom..."

"It was here all along."

Riva reached toward it—

But before her fingers could touch the crystal...

A familiar voice echoed through the throne room.

"Don't touch it, Riva."

Everyone turned.

Standing at the entrance, cloaked in white and carrying a staff carved from starlight, was the mysterious 50-year-old caretaker who had watched over the four girls since Book One.

For the first time...

Their guardian had finally stepped into the light.
