Chapter 70 - 070 Want to Have a Drink Together?

070 Want to Have a Drink Together?

Inside the FBI Los Angeles field office,

Colin was startled by Marcus's words.

"This... Boss, are you saying Skynet has been created?" Colin asked nervously.

Marcus nodded affirmatively. He had already determined that, through DoD's research on the Terminator T-800, Skynet had been established, but he couldn't determine its extent of development.

"Yes! Skynet has been created one hundred percent, but we can't yet determine its specific situation, such as whether it has awakened true sentience and thus become a form of intelligent life," Marcus sighed.

"Then what should we do?" Colin panicked.

Marcus was silent for a few seconds before speaking. "If we want to investigate DoD, do you think it's possible?"

According to American law, the FBI even has the authority to investigate the president.

But in terms of governmental hierarchy, DoD and the FBI's superior, the Department of Justice (DOJ), have the same status, or even half a level higher. How could the FBI directly investigate DoD?

Are you kidding!

"The possibility is extremely small," Colin responded. "If we want to investigate the DoD, we first need to find certain evidence, then submit an application through D.C. headquarters, and wait for the DOJ to review and approve it before we can launch an investigation against the DoD."

"The most likely scenario is that we submit an application, the DOJ approves it, but the DoD rejects it and hands it over to the Inspector General's Office for investigation," Colin stated, highlighting the most probable outcome.

Colin continued to explain, "The Inspector General's Office is known as the FBI within the DoD; they specialize in investigating the DoD's internal issues, and it's very difficult for us to penetrate."

Marcus shook his head helplessly. If that Inspector General's Office were reliable, could the DoD have continued researching the Terminator T-800 for ten years?

Regarding the Terminator and Skynet, Marcus had already submitted a report to D.C. through the FBI's Los Angeles office, describing the dangers of Skynet, but the DoD could still research the Terminator T-800 with impunity.

It must be said that humanity is always blindly arrogant!

Of course, it could also be said that it's because of humanity's inherent greed.

People die for wealth, birds die for food!

"Are there any other options?" Marcus asked. "Is there any way for us to directly access DoD's One Star Project?"

"We can contact SAC Don. SAC Don is currently overseeing One Star Project," Colin replied.

"Then what are we waiting for?" Marcus snorted.

The ever-helpful Colin quickly said, "Wait a moment, Boss, I'll contact SAC Don right away."

Marcus nodded slightly, leaning back on the sofa, pondering how to break the deadlock.

Skynet is a bit too clever!

Skynet actually learned Marcus's method, using leverage to grow itself.

Marcus used the FBI's influence, Skynet used DoD's influence.

"Boss, SAC Don wants to speak with you." Colin contacted Don, explained the situation to him, and Don said he would speak with Marcus first.

Marcus took the phone from Colin and spoke first, "Long time no see, Don."

"Are we meeting now?" Don replied jokingly.

"Haha, you bastard!" Marcus retorted with a laugh, then asked, "Are you settling in well in D.C.?"

"You're not settling in well in the future?" Don didn't mince words. "You came back this time because of Project One Star, right?"

"Yes." Marcus answered affirmatively. "How is Project One Star doing now?"

Don paused for a few seconds before speaking, "The situation is very bad!"

"What?" Marcus asked, puzzled.

"First of all, Project One Star has been running for ten years. Although I'm the supervisor of Project One Star, I don't actually know all the inside details," Don responded.

"Secondly, DoD has built a massive team for Project One Star, with over a thousand participants. They've reverse-engineered a lot from the Terminator T-800," Don said quickly.

Marcus asked curiously, "What have they developed?"

Don didn't hide anything. "According to the intelligence I've gathered, DoD has now completely mastered the technology of the Terminator T-1."

Don detailed the Terminator T-1, a twin-tracked humanoid robot whose primary weapons were two Gatling guns.

"Besides the T-1, they've also mastered the Terminator T-7!" Don added.

The Terminator T-7 was a spider-shaped quadruped vehicle with some combat capabilities, but its main function was as a communications relay node for Skynet.

"Currently, their main research focus is on the Terminator T-50 and the Terminator T-70. The Terminator T-70 is already a humanoid Terminator, and it already shows significant resemblance to the Terminator T-800," Don remarked with a sigh.

Marcus was silent for a moment. "Do you have any way to get us into Project One Star?"

"You want to shut down Project One Star?" Don countered.

"Yes," Marcus replied.

"There's definitely a way. If it were anyone else, I certainly wouldn't agree, but since it's you, I'll definitely find a way," Don replied with a smile.

As Don responded, Marcus's eyes flickered. He gestured to Colin, indicating that Colin should bring over the pen and paper from his desk.

"What method?" Marcus asked.

Colin was Marcus's old subordinate. Seeing Marcus's gesture, he knew something was up. He quietly brought over the pen and paper, and casually placed a document under the notepad.

"I'm currently in charge of overseeing Project One Star. I can process temporary credentials for you, allowing you to become a member of the oversight office, thus enabling you to legitimately enter Project One Star," Don explained.

While listening, Marcus quietly wrote on the paper. He wrote a question on the notepad:

'When was the last time Don returned here?'

After writing the question, Marcus handed the pen to Colin, indicating that Colin should write the answer on the paper.

Colin took the pen and wrote carefully.

"About one year and seven months, almost twenty months."

Marcus nodded slightly, signaling Colin to be quiet.

Don was unaware that Marcus and Colin had already completed a secret exchange; he was still talking, "But, Marcus, you know, this kind of thing involves a lot of risk."

Marcus said with a smile, "I'm back now, when can we meet up? I'll buy you a drink while I'm at it."

"Of course, no problem!" Don agreed.

"Oh, right, call Kyle too!" Marcus added. "When Kyle first came here, you and Kyle secretly went drinking without inviting me. This time, I'm going to drink you both under the table!"

"Hahaha, okay, okay, you decide the time and place, I'll be waiting for you," Don replied.

"Okay, I'll notify Kyle first," Marcus replied. "Alright, Don, you get ready over there. After I'm done here, arrange credentials for me to join Project One Star."

"No problem!" Don replied.

"I'll hang up for now, I'll contact you about drinks later." After Marcus finished speaking, he waited for Don's response before hanging up.

When Marcus hung up, Colin was about to ask, but Marcus stopped him first. He pointed to the phone and then to the office door.

"I'm going to the restroom first. Colin, go check on Allen, why hasn't he brought Harold over yet?" Marcus said.

Colin understood and replied, "Okay, Boss, I'll go see what Allen and Harold are up to."

The two left the office together...
