Chapter 6 - 6 – The First Move

The consequences did not take long.

In the shinobi world, nothing ever disappeared without leaving traces — it simply took time for someone to realize where to look.

Two days after the mission, the first rumors began to circulate.

An intermediary had vanished.

Weapon routes had been interrupted.

Payments were delayed.

Messengers did not return.

Small details, too isolated to alarm a great village… yet significant enough to unsettle those who lived off organized chaos.

In Amegakure, the Akatsuki watched.

The ledger lay open on the table, now marked with notes, folded pages, and symbols carefully traced by Konan.

— This isn't just a scheme — she said, running her finger along one of the routes. — It's a web.

Yahiko nodded.

— If we pull the wrong thread, everything explodes.

Nagato watched in silence, eyes fixed on the names. Some he recognized. Others… he did not.

But all of them shared something in common.

— They profit from war — Nagato said. — Not from victory. From prolonged conflict.

Kuro stood against the wall, as usual. He did not interrupt. He did not guide the discussion.

He only observed.

— Then our first move can't be loud — Yahiko concluded. — It needs to be precise.

Konan closed the book.

— We need to choose a target that causes a domino effect… without revealing our hand.

Yahiko exhaled slowly.

— A warning.

All eyes turned to Kuro.

— You spoke of order — Yahiko continued. — Not massacre. So… what would you do?

Kuro lifted his gaze.

— I would choose someone everyone knows — he replied. — Someone whose fall creates immediate silence.

Nagato frowned.

— A name that big draws attention.

— Controlled attention — Kuro corrected. — The world needs to understand that something has changed. Just not exactly what.

Konan understood first.

— A symbol.

Kuro nodded.

— Exactly.

The chosen target was far from small.

A local warlord, known for "protecting" villages in exchange for resources, manpower, and silence. Officially, an informal ally of two minor villages. Unofficially, a predator.

— If he falls — Yahiko said — no one will mourn.

— But everyone will hear — Konan added.

Nagato closed his eyes briefly.

— And if the villages react?

Kuro answered without hesitation.

— They'll pretend they didn't see anything.

Yahiko smirked.

— The shinobi world really is that hypocritical.

The operation began that very night.

There was no open summons.

No large meeting.

The Akatsuki moved like an idea — silent, difficult to track.

Konan opened paths.

Yahiko coordinated movements.

Nagato sensed the environment, anticipating danger.

And Kuro… Kuro prepared the invisible ground.

When they reached the warlord's territory, the difference was clear.

Alert sentries. Improvised barriers. Armed men patrolling with excessive confidence.

— They're not expecting an attack — Konan murmured.

— They're expecting negotiation — Yahiko agreed.

Kuro said nothing.

He watched the shadows cast by torches, walls, and people themselves.

Each one… connected.

— Perimeter established — he said quietly.

Nagato felt an immediate chill.

— This… is larger than before.

— Yes — Kuro confirmed. — Because now I'm not testing. I'm executing.

The attack did not begin with explosions.

It began with silence.

A sentry blinked… and fell.

Another tried to call for reinforcements… and never finished the sentence.

The shadows moved as part of the environment, not as something foreign. There was no open battle. Only interruption.

Inside the compound, the warlord was still negotiating, confident, surrounded by guards and maps.

— No one would dare attack here — he laughed.

The shadow behind him moved.

Kuro emerged from the darkness without warning.

— The world has changed — he said.

The man turned, startled, reaching for a weapon.

— Who the hell—

The shadow pinned him to the floor.

Kuro did not kill him immediately.

Yahiko, Konan, and Nagato entered moments later.

— No — Yahiko said, raising a hand as he sensed Kuro's intent. — Not this one.

Kuro looked at him.

— Explain.

— If he disappears, it becomes a mystery — Yahiko said calmly. — If he lives to tell the story, it becomes a warning.

Konan nodded.

— We break the symbol without hiding the reason.

Nagato watched the man tremble.

— The world needs to know why.

Kuro considered for a few seconds.

Then he nodded.

— Fair.

With a short gesture, the shadow loosened — just enough.

— You will live — Kuro told the man. — But not here. Not like this.

Maps were taken. Lists copied. Routes erased.

Before leaving, Yahiko leaned forward slightly.

— Tell everyone — he said firmly — that war is no longer a safe business.

They left without pursuit.

Behind them remained a living man… and a dead system.

The reactions came quickly.

Messengers ran.

Agreements were suspended.

Routes fell silent.

In small villages, fear gave way to something new.

Cautious hope.

In larger villages, silence was strategic.

No one wanted to be the first to ask.

Back in Amegakure, the Akatsuki gathered once more.

— It worked — Konan said, analyzing scattered reports. — Three conflicts ended in two days.

Yahiko smiled.

— Without a single village being directly involved.

Nagato exhaled slowly.

— The world felt it.

They all looked at Kuro.

— That was the first move — he said. — Now you stop being reaction.

— And become what? — Yahiko asked.

Kuro answered calmly.

— A factor.

Thunder echoed in the distance.

Konan closed her eyes briefly.

— This will escalate.

— Yes — Kuro agreed. — But now you control the pace.

Nagato clenched his fists.

— Then we can't fail.

Kuro met their gazes.

— No — he said. — Now, you must not.

The shadows around the room adjusted, as if recognizing the new structure.

There was no celebration.

No regret.

Only the certainty that the shinobi world had taken its first step toward something irreversible.

And that this time, someone was watching…

and deciding.
