Chapter 17 - 17

Scorching pain surged through my body as I let out a whimper.

I managed to prep through my eyes in pain trying to figure out where I was.

Everything seemed hazy as I whimpered in pain.

The surface I was lying on was silk and soft to touch.

I grabbed on it to access it more – a bed

I tried to swallow in any whimper but I couldn't.

I heard the door suddenly burst open.

I couldn't see what the person was doing until I felt a hand covered with gloves on my arm.

The whimpers were still getting worse.

I was so swallowed up in my pain that I didn't notice the needle being pierced into my skin.

Quiet whispers echoed around me, I couldn't understand what was being said.

A little scream escaped my lips but immediately settled down as the effect of the drug numbed every pain.

My body literally became worn out, my eyelids got droopier than before and I succumbed to the comfort of the unconsciousness.

….

The smell of antiseptic filtered my nose.

I opened my eyes to white sterile walls.

I tried moving my body only to feel a light object there.

I raised my hand to my sight.

A string was injected into me connecting to a liquid transparent bag hung on a pole almost empty.

The school infirmary.

Samantha had shown me this place before.

The door clicked open as a young lady walked in.

"How are you doing now? Feeling better?" Her chirpy voice spoke as she examined the syringe before taking it out.

She had bright blonde hair in contrast to her dull grey eyes.

She looked to be in her mid-twenties.

I didn't respond.

Every part of my body felt like I was chained to a heavy metal dragging me down.

I hissed as the needle slid from my palm causing a pinch of pain that really did irritate me.

"All done." Her voice cut through the silence.

"What was that?" I asked.

"What do you mean?" She paused and dropped some of the items.

"I mean… the liquid injected into me."

"It's a medicine for your body."

That was literally not answering my question.

I didn't plan to push with more questions at her vague answer as I relaxed back into the bed.

The sound of the door echoed as it closed.

I fixed my gaze on the window beside my bed.

The warm glow of the sun settled on the school garden.

Everyday I find more reasons to love this place.

The feel of the silk white sheets on the bed made me feel comfort and the plush pillows.

Just a good novel and a hot cup of coffee to go was all I needed.

Not minding that I was literally on an infirmary bed.

I felt light.

But I couldn't stop myself from thinking where Samantha was and how she was doing.

My mind flashed with vague abstract memories and noise as I tried to remember.

What exactly happened that led me here.

I closed my eyes about to sleep watching the view as a sense of warmth passed through me.

The sound of a knock disrupted my thoughts, I was about to face the door when I felt an arm wrap around me in a hug.

The warm smell of honey brought a smile to my face.

"Freya! I've missed you so much." She jumped onto the bed. "I was so worried."

"Me too. What happened?" I have a quizzical look.

'Am I missing something?'

Her face paled as a look of realization washed across her face.

She had a ghost of a frown on her face as she suppressed it with a forced smile.

"Never mind, I shouldn't have said that. The nurse told me not to stress you and I just did." She apologized but something flashed through her.

Guilt?

I decided not to push further.

"So how long have I been unconscious?"

"Just two days." She shrugged cuddling into me.

Pretty much not too long.

We stayed in a comfortable silence and I eventually fell asleep.

***

Not long after, the same lady walked in and said I was free to leave.

"Wakie .. You both can leave now if you want."

I shrugged Samantha's shoulder to wake her up.

Never knew she would be such a deep sleeper.

"What?" She grumbled in her raspy voice, refusing to stand.

I sat up and made my way out of the bed as she was still laying down.

The lady nurse stood at a corner with a warm smile.

Not hurrying us or scowling at us.

No sight of irritation.

I gave a gentle nod of the head as gratitude.

I had to drag Samantha by her ankles, causing her to let out a loud groan.

"Fine I'm up, I'm up. Let me go."

She whined as the sleep finally snapped out of her eyes.

Honestly she looked like someone who hasn't slept for days.

"Thank you Lucia." She thanked the lady whose name I guess is Lucia.

We left the place and honestly I wished I could go back there.

The room was just so nice.

Samantha groaned beside me as she dragged herself more.

"What happened? You look extremely tired and drained of every energy." I arched a brow at her.

I couldn't help but ask as she seemed a bit out of it since this evening.

" Nothing." She shook her head. "I just did some work out." She spoke with an uncertain edge in her voice.

She couldn't even look me in the eye.

And as long as I have known Samantha, she isn't a shy person.

Another lie.

I felt a light prickle in my chest as the thought of her hiding something from me.

I swallowed it back and accepted the lie like it was nothing.

As we reached the dormitory, she gave a curt goodbye and went to her dorm room.

Not much talk.

Or a good night from her.

I hopped into the shower as soon as I reached my dorm.

My dorm lights were dull and the room was cold.

Today has been quite off.

The light droplets of the shower cascading lightly down my body slicked with soap as if washing off all the uneasiness I felt. .

I raised my face towards the shower head as the warmth of the water glided down my body in streams.

Not wasting much time in the shower, I rinsed my body, eventually stepping out and wrapped myself in my towel.

My room looked dull and I hadn't noticed when I entered.

I shrugged it off and walked to my closet.

I put on comfy nightwear and headed straight to my bed.

Sleep was nowhere close.

My gaze was fixed on the window as I still couldn't shake off this sickening chill that something happened and it's being kept hidden from me
