Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 - Taking on the champ

The goblin champion grabs its club, running up to Alan, swinging it downwards vertically. Alan dodges, but he wasn't fast enough. Half of his body is crushed under the weight of the bat. It then kicks him down and keeps stomping on him. "You are just a human, how are you still alive?"

Alan smirks, "thank your god for that. I'll be back to finish you off soon." Alan opens his eyes again. As it runs towards him, he keeps his eyes on the bat. There is no way a normal human like him can tank the champion's hits unless he was a tanker like Barbera, but he doesn't currently have a class. So he needs to train his dexterity and unlock the dex exclusive skill, perception. His heard from rangers that apparently it is a skill you unlock by evading an enemy a thousand or two thousand times. It doesn't matter. He has time for it, no matter how long it will take. He dodges and weaves between its bat. Barely keeping his eyes on it. The champion grabs him with its off hand and smashes him dead into the floor.

"Right, I should watch out for more than just the club." He focuses on the champion. How it moves, when it swings, how its muscles contract, all so he can dodge its attacks. The champion lifts up its right foot and throws a straight kick at Alan. He crumples up like a ball to take the least amount of damage he can. He lies on the floor, almost dead, but regeneration is keeping him alive.

"How the hell are you still alive?" The champion looms over him as it proclaims.

"Blame your god for that." He spits blood in its face.

"No matter. You will die like the rest nevertheless." With that, it bashes Alan's skull in.

This time, Alan closes his eyes to focus more on sharpening his hearing. As its club swings by, Alan evades it and strikes its knee. Aiming for its joints to try and take it down.

"You puny human. Your attacks don't mean anything to me. No matter how hard you try, I won't fall. My regeneration will recover all that damage." Alan doesn't care. He focuses on striking again and again. His hands are bleeding from punching, but it doesn't matter. They will regenerate anyways.

Thud.

And again, the champion slams Alan into the floor, killing him.

"It's been 100… no, 200 deaths." Alan wonders to himself. "Do I really have what it takes to beat him?" As Alan lies in a puddle of his blood, he wonders if his suffering is worth it. Clearly this ability, determination, was only given to him to watch him suffer. To make him squirm all he wants, yet he will never win. Maybe if it was Barbera, or Andrew, they could've gotten out of here by now. But not him, not Alan. He is way too weak. An F rank player with even his potential being F rank? He couldn't win. There's no way. But as he doubts himself, he is reminded of his family, the people he is doing this for. They are still waiting for him. If he gives up now, they will all die. He has to make it back to them.

Alan awakes yet again. It's his 251st try.
