Chapter 2 - The Calm before Crimson 1

>During a mission<

"I'm giving you 5 minutes"

I walked a short distance away from the fight and leaned against and broken pillar. As much I loved this team, they were pretty useless. All of them.

We were sent here because a Jaguar corpse had been detected causing chaos in Zone D of the town. It's appearance is unusual but nonetheless normal. And this is a complete waste of my time. If I wasn't here meddling around with a measly cat, I would've out there actually looking for the murderer of my parents. It's been 10 years but I still haven't found a single clue on the blood sucker that killed them.

"Captain!"

I looked back up and wow, useless is an understatement for this team of mine. I gave them that simple creature to deal with as training while I stood here contemplating and in under just 4 minutes they're already losing!

There are a number of teams in the organization each sent to different areas. My team, which consists of 6 people including myself usually deals with Zone D, Zone B and Zone S. What determines the zone letter? I wish I knew too, if it concerned me in the slightest. Which it doesn't.

I gripped the bronze rod in my hand which glowed faintly and morphed into a long spear. Cadets specifically don't have magic, we're all humans. But to kill supernaturals, we use special tools created by the organization. These are embedded with essence obtained from defeated supernaturals and thus making weapons to kill more supernaturals.

Just as the Jaguar was practically about to bite off Zoe's leg off, I closed one eye and aimed at it and threw it with high speed both from me and the magic in the spear. It hit the Jaguar corpse square in the head and the golden glow in its eyes faded. It was dead…again?…whatever.

Just as it had been thrown, the bronze spear shrunk back to its original size and shape and returned to me.

Zoe looked at me and immediately Burst into tears.

"Oh, Mia." She crawled all the way towards me and hugged my leg tightly, "I thought I'd be dinner for real! You saved me again." She sniffled dramatically.

Zoe and I were the youngest in the team. We were both 16, Mikaela was 18, like Joshua and Mike, then Andrew was 19. But I'm still the best performer in the group.

"Great job, Mia." Mike walked over with a disgustingly charming smile. He always tries to flirt with anyone, it's really annoying. Joshua and Mikaela started contacting the organization and Andrew went to assess the corpse.

"Zoe…let go." I looked down at her as she looked up at me pitifully. She did let go with a bit of pushing away.

•They began to head back to the organization. Upon arriving at the pick up point near Zone S. Mia paused as she felt a chill in the air, something familiar…something cold•

"Earth to Mia," Zoe snapped her fingers. "Come on in"

I have a feeling something bad is about to happen…
