Chapter 33 - Chapter 32: The South Zone Final

The heat of Chennai was oppressive. The air, thick with moisture, clung to their skin, making every breath feel like a battle. The M.A. Chidambaram Stadium was buzzing with excitement—this was the moment the Karnataka U-16 team had been building towards for the past year. The South Zone Championship final. Scouts were scattered throughout the stands, a few familiar faces from the Karnataka Cricket Association, and even a few from the national circuit.

But amidst the sea of spectators, Rudra's focus remained unshakable. It was as though the world around him had blurred, leaving only the pitch in sharp focus. He stood at the boundary's edge, staring down the pitch where the opposing team, Tamil Nadu U-16, was already assembling.

Action Anand (Commentary):

"Folks, what a moment this is! The South Zone Final! Karnataka's young dynamo, Rudra Sharma, leads his team out on this hot, unforgiving track. You can see the determination in his eyes. This could be the day we all remember!"

Rudra adjusted his cap, wiped the sweat off his brow, and took a deep breath. The anticipation was palpable, but he was used to this. He'd faced pressure before—back in his previous life, the corporate boardrooms, and intense negotiations with Prem Nath. But this... this was different. This was his chance to prove himself, not as a businessman or a strategist, but as a cricketer.

Raghav (Team Captain):

"We've got this, Rudra. Let's show them who's boss!"

The team huddled together for a final pep talk, and as Rudra looked into the eyes of his teammates, he could sense the same nervous energy that was in him. The difference, though, was his ability to control it. This was his domain. He knew this pitch better than anyone else.

Rudra (Thinking):

Calm. Focus. One ball at a time. We win this as a team.

...

First Innings: Karnataka Batting

Rudra opened the innings for Karnataka, walking to the crease with his bat slung over his shoulder, his movements fluid and confident. He glanced at the scoreboard—Tamil Nadu had posted a challenging total of 240 runs, and they were gunning for a victory.

The bowler was quick, his run-up aggressive, but Rudra was ready. His Batting - Technique LVL 28 was perfect for the slower pitches here in Chennai. The first delivery came in—a good length ball, on the off-stump. Rudra stood tall, eyes locked on the ball as it came toward him.

Sher Shrivastava (Commentary):

"Yeh toh koi baat hi nahi! Rudra Sharma ne gend ka rang hi badal diya! Aap dekho, yeh ladka 12 saal ka hai ya 22?"

(This is something else! Rudra Sharma changed the ball's course entirely! Is this boy 12 or 22?)

With a textbook cover drive, the ball raced away to the boundary. Rudra's technique was flawless, and the crowd responded with an explosion of applause.

Dr. Subramanium (Commentary):

"This is not the cricket we are used to seeing at this age. The geometry of his shot—the way he transfers his weight—simply exquisite. He's playing the game of 2026, not 2003."

He faced the next delivery. A bouncer, sharp and fast, heading straight for his head. He ducked under it easily, feeling the rush of adrenaline surge through his body. The game had just started, but Rudra was already in control. His Batting - Power LVL 29 kicked in. A few balls later, another loose delivery from the bowler was hammered straight into the stands for a six.

Major R.S. Rathore (Commentary):

"That was a slog-sweep to a fast bowler! A dangerous shot—madness, really. He's going to get out soon. I can feel it."

Action Anand (Commentary):

"Look at the crowd! The stadium's going wild! That 'madness' you're talking about just brought up Rudra Sharma's second six of the innings! If this boy continues like this, we might have a new star on our hands!"

Rudra's Thoughts:

Madness? Just the beginning. Let's finish this.

...

The scoreboard was ticking up, and Rudra's confidence was soaring. By the time he was at 48 runs, his team was in a solid position, but the tension was still there. A few more deliveries, a few more runs, and Karnataka would be on track to chase down the target.

But the opposition was not about to roll over.

Tamil Nadu's Fast Bowler (Bala):

"This boy's getting too cocky. Time to break his rhythm."

The next ball came in fast—a rising delivery aimed at Rudra's chest. It was fast. Too fast. He could feel the sweat dripping down his forehead, but he remained calm. His Reflexes LVL 18 took over. He shuffled his feet, got into position, and executed a perfect pull shot.

The ball flew high into the air—toward the boundary. But the fielder was waiting.

The fielder leapt up, his hands stretching out, fingers just grazing the ball. The sound of the bat on ball rang through the air—it was out.

The stadium fell silent for a split second. Rudra had been dismissed.

...

Rudra's Thought:

Not yet. But I'll be back. Watch.

...

As Rudra walked back to the pavilion, he knew one thing for certain. This game was far from over. His performance had set the tone, but the victory would be a team effort.

Raghav (Team Captain):

"Don't worry, Rudra. You set the pace. We'll finish this."

Action Anand (Commentary):

"Rudra Sharma has gone! The first big wicket of the match! But what a knock! That six was something else. The Karnataka boys are on the attack!"

Second Innings: Karnataka Bowling

As the innings progressed, Rudra found himself in a new role—bowler. His Bowling LVL 21 and Spin Control LVL 22 had been honed over months of practice. Now, he was ready to unleash his leg-spin magic on the Tamil Nadu batsmen.

The first delivery was a perfect leg-break, pitched wide of off-stump, turning sharply to beat the bat and land in the keeper's gloves. A few balls later, he was at it again. Another sharp delivery, and Tamil Nadu's opener was caught at slip.

Sher Shrivastava (Commentary):

"Rudra Sharma ki leg-spin! Kya gend hai! Tamil Nadu ka opener ab ghar ka rasta dekh raha hai!"

(Rudra Sharma's leg-spin! What a delivery! Tamil Nadu's opener is now headed back to the pavilion!)

...

The match continued, and Rudra took two more wickets in quick succession. Each time, his mind sharpened further, the game slowing down for him.

The team pushed forward, each player contributing, but it was Rudra's leg-spin that had turned the tide. With Tamil Nadu now struggling at 115/7, the final moments were a formality.

Raghav (Team Captain):

"We've got this, Rudra. Just one more."

Rudra bowled the final over, and with a crisp delivery, Tamil Nadu's final batsman was bowled out. The Karnataka U-16 team had won the South Zone Championship.

Action Anand (Commentary):

"That's it, folks! Karnataka U-16 champions! Rudra Sharma's leadership, his batting, his bowling—everything clicked today. What a performance!"

...

Next Chapter: The aftermath of the victory. With scouts now officially watching him, Rudra faces the weight of expectations. His path to the National U-19 Team begins to take shape. But challenges, both on and off the field, continue to rise.
