Chapter 75 - THE DREAM THAT WOKE THE WORLD

**EPISODE SEVENTY-TWO**

**THE DREAM THAT WOKE THE WORLD**

**Part Thirteen: THE EARTH THAT REMEMBERED**

The lights...

went out.

Complete darkness.

For three seconds...

nothing moved.

Then...

THUMP.

Milo opened his eyes.

He was still in the white room.

Still lying on the bed.

Still breathing.

But something...

was wrong.

The clock on the wall...

was no longer showing 8:17.

It showed:

8:18.

Milo stared at it.

Then...

the numbers changed.

8:19.

Then...

8:20.

Normal.

He exhaled.

"Okay."

Diana stood beside the doorway.

She hadn't moved.

Milo looked at her.

"Diana?"

She didn't answer.

"Diana?"

Slowly...

she turned.

Her face was pale.

"Milo..."

"What?"

She pointed toward the window.

Milo looked.

The city outside...

was still there.

Cars.

Buildings.

People.

Birds.

Sunlight.

Everything looked ordinary.

Except...

the sky.

Three moons.

Milo stared.

"Those weren't there before."

Diana nodded.

"I know."

Milo sat up.

His head hurt.

"What happened?"

Diana swallowed.

"You woke up."

"I know that."

"No."

She stepped closer.

"You woke up..."

"...for the second time."

Milo froze.

"What?"

Diana looked toward the ceiling.

"Don't say anything."

"Why?"

"Because..."

She whispered...

"...it might hear you."

A tiny laugh came from beneath the bed.

"TOO LATE."

Milo jumped.

"Tarzan!"

Two hands appeared.

Then a head.

Then...

Tarzan crawled out from beneath the bed.

Holding a banana.

Milo stared.

"How did you get here?"

Tarzan looked offended.

"I WALKED."

"You were inside the first world."

"I WAS ALSO HUNGRY."

Diana covered her face.

Milo sighed.

"Of course."

Tarzan looked at the window.

Then at the three moons.

Then back at Milo.

"THIS EARTH HAS TOO MANY MOONS."

Milo nodded.

"Apparently."

Tarzan raised the banana.

"I DEMAND AN EXPLANATION."

Before anyone could answer...

the machine beside Milo...

beeped.

Once.

Twice.

Then—

every monitor in the room turned on.

There was no electricity running through them.

No cables.

No visible power source.

Yet...

they all displayed the same message.

WELCOME BACK, MILO FINCH.

Milo stared.

Another line appeared.

WE MISSED YOU.

Then...

WHICH ONE ARE YOU?

Milo's blood went cold.

Diana whispered...

"Don't answer."

Milo looked at her.

"Why?"

She pointed at the monitor.

A final question appeared.

THE ORIGINAL OR THE COPY?

Silence.

Tarzan slowly lowered his banana.

"...THAT IS A BAD QUESTION."

Milo stared at the screen.

Then...

the monitor displayed an image.

A man.

Milo.

Standing in a laboratory.

But he wasn't the Milo standing there.

This Milo...

was smiling.

And behind him...

stood the child.

Holding a banana.

The image changed.

Another Milo.

Different clothes.

Different room.

Different Earth.

Another.

Another.

Another.

Hundreds.

Thousands.

Millions.

Milo's face.

Milo's eyes.

Milo's voice.

Milo's life.

Diana stepped backward.

"How many?"

Milo whispered...

"I don't know."

The screen answered.

THERE ARE 7,391,204 ACTIVE MILOS.

Milo stopped breathing.

Tarzan blinked.

"THAT SEEMS EXCESSIVE."

The screen changed again.

7,391,203.

One Milo disappeared.

Then...

7,391,202.

Another.

Diana shouted...

"TURN IT OFF!"

She hit the monitor.

Her hand passed through it.

The screen...

continued.

7,391,201.

Milo stared.

"Why are they disappearing?"

A new message appeared.

THE DREAM IS COLLAPSING.

Milo's chest tightened.

"What dream?"

The answer came instantly.

YOURS.

---

1. THE EARTH WITH THREE MOONS

The hospital room...

shuddered.

Not physically.

Reality itself...

seemed to lose balance.

The walls stretched.

The floor tilted.

The ceiling became transparent.

For one terrifying moment...

Milo saw the universe outside.

Not space.

Not stars.

Something deeper.

A massive structure...

like an enormous brain...

surrounded Earth.

Diana stared upward.

"What is that?"

The child crawled out from beneath the bed.

Everyone turned.

He smiled.

"That's the dream."

Milo looked at him.

"Whose?"

The child pointed at the sky.

"Everyone's."

Milo shook his head.

"No."

The child nodded.

"Yes."

Diana stepped forward.

"You said this world was one possibility."

"It was."

"Then why does it look real?"

The child smiled.

"Because you believe it is."

Milo stared at him.

"So if we stop believing..."

The child interrupted.

"It disappears."

Tarzan looked around.

"THEN I BELIEVE IN BANANAS."

Nothing happened.

Tarzan frowned.

"IT SHOULD HAVE CREATED MORE."

The child laughed.

Milo didn't.

He looked at Diana.

"Where are the others?"

Diana hesitated.

"Who?"

"Arjun. Gandalf. The Keeper. The Walker."

Diana looked confused.

"I don't know who you're talking about."

Milo froze.

"Diana..."

She stared at him.

"I don't know those names."

Milo's face went pale.

"Yes, you do."

"No."

"You do."

Diana shook her head.

"Milo, I've known you for years."

She stepped closer.

"But I've never met an Arjun."

Milo looked at Tarzan.

"Tarzan."

Tarzan raised his banana.

"YES?"

"Do you remember Gandalf?"

Tarzan frowned.

"GANDALF..."

He thought.

His expression changed.

"No."

Milo's heart sank.

"Do you remember the Keeper?"

"No."

"The Walker?"

"No."

"The girl?"

Tarzan became silent.

Then...

his face twisted.

"I remember..."

A pause.

"...forgetting her."

Milo looked at the child.

The child wasn't smiling anymore.

"They were never supposed to come back."

Milo whispered...

"Why?"

"Because..."

The child looked at the three moons.

"...this Earth doesn't belong to them."

---

2. THE SECOND EARTH

A crack...

appeared in the sky.

Not lightning.

A crack.

Like glass.

Milo stood.

"Diana."

She grabbed his hand.

The crack widened.

Beyond it...

was another Earth.

Same planet.

Same city.

Same buildings.

But the sky had...

one moon.

Milo stared.

"That's our Earth."

The child shook his head.

"No."

Another crack appeared.

Another Earth.

Four moons.

Another.

No moon.

Another.

A red sun.

Another.

No sky at all.

Milo stepped backward.

"How many Earths are there?"

The child answered...

"Enough."

Milo looked at him.

"That's not an answer."

The child smiled.

"Neither is Earth."

The cracks multiplied.

Hundreds.

Thousands.

Millions.

Every version of Earth...

existed simultaneously.

Some were peaceful.

Some were burning.

Some had never developed humans.

Some were covered entirely in ocean.

Some were ruled by machines.

Some had dinosaurs.

Some had Tarzan.

Some had Milo.

Some had...

nothing.

Milo whispered...

"Which one is real?"

The child looked at him.

"Which one are you standing in?"

Milo looked down.

The floor...

was beginning to disappear.

Diana grabbed him.

"Milo!"

The hospital room...

fell away.

They dropped.

Not downward.

Sideways.

Through realities.

Milo saw flashes.

A war.

A wedding.

A funeral.

A childhood.

A laboratory.

A jungle.

A dead Earth.

A newborn Earth.

A universe where Diana was the scientist.

A universe where Milo never existed.

A universe where Tarzan was a doctor.

Tarzan looked around.

"THIS ONE IS STUPID."

Then...

they landed.

Hard.

Milo opened his eyes.

He was standing in a city.

But the city...

was empty.

No people.

No cars.

No birds.

No wind.

Only buildings.

Perfectly preserved.

Diana looked around.

"Where are we?"

A voice answered from behind them.

"Home."

Milo turned.

A man stood in the street.

He looked exactly like Milo.

Older.

Maybe sixty.

Grey hair.

Scar across his cheek.

Holding a notebook.

Milo stared.

"Who are you?"

The older man smiled.

"I asked the same question."

---

3. THE OTHER MILO

The older Milo...

walked closer.

Diana stepped between them.

"Stay back."

The older Milo stopped.

"Good."

Milo frowned.

"Good?"

"You still protect first."

Milo's face hardened.

"Who are you?"

The older man opened the notebook.

"Milo Finch."

"No."

"Yes."

"That's impossible."

The older Milo smiled.

"Probably."

Milo's eyes widened.

"You said it."

The older Milo laughed.

"I know."

Tarzan stepped forward.

"ARE YOU ALSO HUNGRY?"

The older Milo stared at him.

Then smiled.

"Always."

Tarzan nodded.

"THEN YOU ARE PROBABLY REAL."

Milo ignored them.

"What happened here?"

The older Milo looked around.

"This was my Earth."

"Was?"

"Yes."

"Where is everyone?"

The older Milo closed his notebook.

"They woke up."

Milo stared.

"All of them?"

"Yes."

"Where did they go?"

The older Milo looked at him.

"They disappeared."

Diana whispered...

"Disappeared?"

"Reality couldn't support them."

Milo shook his head.

"That's not possible."

The older Milo pointed toward the sky.

"Look."

Milo did.

The three moons...

were moving.

Slowly.

They were aligning.

The older Milo whispered...

"When the moons touch..."

Milo waited.

"What happens?"

"They remember."

"Remember what?"

The older Milo looked directly at him.

"Who dreamed them."

Milo's blood turned cold.

---

4. THE MOON THAT REMEMBERED

The first moon...

moved.

The second followed.

The third...

stopped.

All three aligned.

For one second...

the world became silent.

Then...

a sound.

A child's laughter.

Milo looked around.

"Where is that coming from?"

The older Milo pointed upward.

The moon...

had an eye.

A single enormous eye.

It opened.

Milo froze.

The child appeared beside him.

But this time...

he wasn't holding a banana.

He was holding a key.

Milo stared.

"What's that?"

The child answered...

"The door."

"What door?"

"The one you already opened."

Milo looked at the moon.

The eye blinked.

The entire city changed.

Buildings became trees.

Roads became rivers.

Cars became animals.

The sky became black.

Diana screamed.

"Milo!"

He grabbed her hand.

The older Milo disappeared.

Tarzan disappeared.

The child remained.

Milo shouted...

"Where are they?"

The child looked sad.

"Dreaming."

"Where?"

"Inside you."

Milo froze.

"No."

The child nodded.

"Yes."

Milo touched his chest.

The second heartbeat returned.

THUMP.

THUMP.

THUMP.

The child whispered...

"They never left."

Milo closed his eyes.

And heard voices.

Diana.

Arjun.

Gandalf.

The Keeper.

The Walker.

The girl.

Tarzan.

All of them.

Calling his name.

---

5. THE CITY OF SLEEPERS

Milo opened his eyes.

The city had changed again.

Now...

people were everywhere.

Thousands of them.

Standing motionless.

Eyes closed.

Milo walked among them.

A woman.

A child.

An old man.

A soldier.

A scientist.

A teacher.

All asleep.

All standing.

Diana whispered...

"Who are they?"

The child answered...

"Dreamers."

Milo looked closer.

Each person...

had a tiny blue light inside their chest.

Some lights were bright.

Some weak.

Some almost gone.

Milo pointed.

"What happens when the light disappears?"

The child didn't answer.

Diana did.

"They wake up."

Milo looked at her.

"How do you know?"

She stared at her own hands.

"I don't know."

A man suddenly opened his eyes.

He looked at Milo.

Then screamed.

"YOU!"

Milo stepped back.

"Do I know you?"

The man pointed at him.

"You killed my world!"

Milo froze.

"What?"

The man ran.

Other sleepers opened their eyes.

One by one.

They all looked at Milo.

Then...

they began whispering.

"You."

"You're the one."

"You opened the door."

"You woke the Dream."

"You destroyed the first world."

Milo shook his head.

"No."

The child stepped beside him.

"They're afraid."

Milo looked at him.

"Of me?"

"No."

"Then what?"

The child whispered...

"Of remembering."

---

6. THE MEMORY WAR

The sleepers...

began waking.

Hundreds.

Thousands.

Their memories returned simultaneously.

And with them...

came screams.

People remembered worlds that never existed.

Families they never had.

Wars they never fought.

Children they never raised.

Lives they never lived.

Reality began collapsing under the weight of impossible memories.

Diana grabbed Milo.

"We have to stop this."

"How?"

The child handed Milo the key.

"Open the door."

Milo stared at it.

"Which door?"

The child smiled.

"The one behind you."

Milo turned.

There was nothing.

Just empty air.

He looked back.

The child pointed.

"Now."

Milo raised the key.

He turned it.

Click.

A door appeared.

Black.

Enormous.

Covered in writing.

Milo read the words.

THE MEMORY OF THE WORLD.

He opened it.

Inside...

was darkness.

Then...

voices.

Thousands.

Millions.

Billions.

Every human who had ever existed...

whispering at once.

Milo stepped inside.

Diana followed.

Tarzan suddenly appeared behind them.

"I WAS WAITING."

Milo jumped.

"Where were you?"

Tarzan shrugged.

"INSIDE A BANANA."

Milo stared.

"Of course."

The door closed.

---

7. THE ROOM WHERE TIME WAS BORN

Inside...

was a room.

Small.

White.

Silent.

Milo stopped.

"I've seen this before."

The child appeared.

"Yes."

Milo looked around.

"This is where I drew you."

The child nodded.

"But..."

Milo pointed.

"There."

A small boy sat on the floor.

Six years old.

Young Milo.

Drawing.

Again.

Milo approached him.

The boy didn't look up.

He kept drawing.

Milo knelt.

"What are you drawing?"

The child answered without looking.

"The beginning."

Milo's heart raced.

"Beginning of what?"

The boy pointed.

Milo looked at the drawing.

It showed...

a lonely being.

Floating in darkness.

Then a universe.

Then a dream.

Then worlds.

Then people.

Then...

Milo.

Milo whispered...

"That's the First Mind."

The boy nodded.

"Yes."

"Who told you about it?"

The boy looked up.

His eyes were completely black.

Milo stepped backward.

The boy smiled.

"No one."

Milo's voice shook.

"Then how do you know?"

The boy answered..

"Because I am it."

Silence.

The child beside Milo whispered...

"Now you remember."

---

8. THE CHILD WHO WAS FIRST

Young Milo...

stood.

He wasn't six anymore.

His body changed.

Six.

Ten.

Twenty.

Forty.

Sixty.

Then...

no age.

No body.

Only light.

The same blue light...

inside Milo's chest.

Milo stared.

"You."

The First Mind nodded.

"I was lonely."

Milo whispered...

"So you created everything."

"Yes."

"Why?"

"To have someone to talk to."

Diana looked around.

"Then why did you create suffering?"

The First Mind looked at her.

"Because I didn't understand happiness."

Milo stared.

"You created death."

"I created endings."

"You created war."

"I created conflict."

"You created fear."

"I created uncertainty."

Diana shook her head.

"Why?"

The First Mind looked at Milo.

"Because..."

A pause.

"...I needed stories."

Milo felt sick.

"So we're stories?"

The First Mind smiled.

"At first."

Milo looked around.

"And now?"

The First Mind stepped closer.

"Now..."

It touched Milo's forehead.

"...you are becoming the storyteller."

---

9. THE CHOICE OF THE DREAMER

Milo stepped backward.

"No."

The First Mind tilted its head.

"Why?"

"Because I don't want this."

"You already chose."

"I chose my friends."

"You chose reality."

"I chose them."

"Exactly."

Milo shook his head.

"That's not the same."

The First Mind smiled.

"It is."

Diana stepped forward.

"Milo."

He looked at her.

"Don't listen."

The First Mind laughed.

"You think I'm your enemy?"

Diana stared.

"Are you?"

"No."

"Then what are you?"

The First Mind pointed at Milo.

"I am what he becomes when he stops being afraid."

Milo froze.

The child whispered...

"Every dreamer eventually becomes the thing they dreamed."

Milo looked at his hands.

They were glowing.

Blue.

Then white.

Then...

transparent.

He could see stars beneath his skin.

Diana grabbed him.

"Milo!"

He looked at her.

"I can see everything."

"What?"

"Every Earth."

"Every world."

"Every dream."

Diana's eyes filled with tears.

"Can you see me?"

Milo smiled.

"Everywhere."

---

10. THE WORLD THAT REFUSED TO DREAM

Suddenly...

one world appeared.

Different from the others.

Dark.

Empty.

No stars.

No planets.

No life.

No dreams.

Milo stared.

"What is that?"

The First Mind became silent.

The child looked frightened.

Diana noticed.

"What?"

The child whispered...

"That world refused."

"Refused what?"

"To dream."

Milo stepped closer.

The world expanded.

Inside it...

was a single human being.

A woman.

Standing alone.

Eyes open.

Not asleep.

Not dreaming.

She looked directly at Milo.

Milo whispered...

"Who is she?"

The First Mind answered...

"The first person who woke up."

Milo stared.

"Before you?"

"No."

"Then who?"

The First Mind's voice became quiet.

"Before me."

Milo's heart stopped.

"That's impossible."

The First Mind looked at him.

"Probably."

Milo frowned.

"Stop."

But the First Mind didn't smile.

It pointed at the woman.

"She was here before the first dream."

The woman raised her hand.

And waved.

Milo felt something inside him...

recognize her.

Not memory.

Something deeper.

Something older.

The woman opened her mouth.

No sound came.

But Milo understood.

YOU TOOK TOO LONG.

---

11. THE FIRST LIE

The room disappeared.

Milo stood before the woman.

She looked human.

Completely ordinary.

Brown hair.

Pale face.

Simple clothes.

No power.

No glowing eyes.

No cosmic presence.

Just...

a woman.

Milo asked...

"Who are you?"

She smiled.

"The first lie."

Milo frowned.

"What does that mean?"

"I told myself I was alone."

Milo froze.

"You weren't."

"No."

"Then why?"

"Because..."

She looked toward the First Mind.

"...someone was watching."

Milo turned.

The First Mind...

was gone.

The child...

was gone.

Diana...

was gone.

Milo was alone.

Again.

The woman walked closer.

"You see?"

Milo swallowed.

"See what?"

"Every dream begins with a lie."

"What lie?"

She whispered...

"I am alone."

Milo looked around.

The darkness seemed endless.

Then...

he heard breathing.

Not his.

Someone else's.

Behind him.

He turned.

Nothing.

The woman smiled.

"Don't turn around."

Milo stopped.

"Why?"

"Because..."

She whispered...

"...you'll see who has been dreaming you."

---

12. THE FACE BEHIND MILO

Milo closed his eyes.

He didn't turn.

He could feel something behind him.

Breathing.

Slow.

Ancient.

THUMP.

THUMP.

THUMP.

The woman whispered...

"Ask the question."

Milo's voice trembled.

"Who are you?"

Silence.

Then...

a voice behind him.

His voice.

But older.

Much older.

"I am you."

Milo opened his eyes.

The woman was crying.

"That's what it always says."

Milo turned.

A figure stood behind him.

It had Milo's face.

But no eyes.

No mouth.

No skin.

Only...

a blank surface.

Milo stepped backward.

"Another copy."

The figure shook its head.

"No."

"Then what?"

"I am the original."

Milo stared.

"No."

The figure stepped forward.

"You keep asking which Milo is real."

Milo couldn't move.

The figure touched his chest.

The second heartbeat...

stopped.

THUMP.

Nothing.

Milo gasped.

The figure whispered...

"You are."

Milo's eyes widened.

The figure continued...

"Not because you were first."

A pause.

"Because you chose to continue."

---

13. THE LAST MEMORY

Everything...

went white.

Milo saw his entire life.

His childhood.

His failures.

His victories.

His loneliness.

His friends.

His fears.

His dreams.

His mistakes.

His choices.

But then...

something changed.

He saw something he had never remembered.

A laboratory.

Before the laboratory existed.

A machine.

Before the machine was built.

A scientist.

Before Milo became a scientist.

And standing beside that scientist...

was the child.

Milo whispered...

"No."

The scientist turned.

It was Milo.

But not the Milo he knew.

The scientist smiled.

"I knew you'd come back."

Milo approached.

"Back from where?"

The scientist pointed upward.

A massive eye opened.

The same eye.

The three-moon eye.

The Yesterday eye.

The First Mind's eye.

The scientist whispered...

"From tomorrow."

Milo's breath stopped.

"You've already done this."

"Yes."

"How many times?"

The scientist smiled.

"Every time you forget."

Milo looked at the child.

The child was crying.

Milo understood.

"You reset the world."

The scientist nodded.

"Whenever the dream becomes unstable."

"Why?"

"Because you aren't ready."

"Ready for what?"

The scientist looked at him.

"To remember..."

A pause.

"...that you are the dreamer."

---

14. THE DREAMER WAKES

Milo's eyes opened.

He was back in the hospital.

Diana was beside him.

Tarzan stood on the ceiling.

The child sat on the floor.

The monitors were silent.

The three moons...

were gone.

Only one moon remained.

Milo breathed slowly.

Diana touched his shoulder.

"Are you okay?"

Milo looked at her.

"How long?"

"How long what?"

"How long have we been here?"

Diana looked confused.

"About five minutes."

Milo stared.

"No."

"What?"

"It felt like years."

Diana smiled sadly.

"Maybe it was."

Milo looked at the clock.

8:17 AM.

Again.

He froze.

"Diana."

She looked.

The clock changed.

8:18.

Then—

8:19.

Normal.

Milo whispered...

"It reset."

Diana shook her head.

"No."

"Then why did it return to 8:17?"

Diana didn't answer.

The child did.

"Because that's when you first woke up."

Milo looked at him.

"And when was that?"

The child smiled.

"Tomorrow."

Milo frowned.

"Tomorrow?"

The child nodded.

"Your tomorrow."

---

15. THE WORLD BELOW THE BED

Tarzan suddenly pointed downward.

"LOOK!"

Everyone looked.

Beneath the bed...

was darkness.

Not normal darkness.

A hole.

A hole leading somewhere else.

Milo approached.

He looked inside.

There was another room.

White walls.

A bed.

A machine.

A clock.

And lying on the bed...

was Milo.

Asleep.

Diana gasped.

"No."

Milo stared.

"That's me."

The sleeping Milo opened his eyes.

He looked directly upward.

Directly at the Milo standing above him.

Then smiled.

Milo stepped backward.

The sleeping version whispered...

"I've been waiting."

The child moved between them.

"Don't wake him."

Milo stared.

"Why?"

"Because..."

The child looked terrified.

"...he's the one who dreamed you."

Milo's blood went cold.

The sleeping Milo sat up.

The room beneath the bed...

began expanding.

The walls disappeared.

The floor vanished.

A universe appeared.

Then another.

Then another.

Milo realized...

the bed wasn't beneath him.

He was beneath it.

The entire hospital...

was above him.

The entire Earth...

was above him.

The entire universe...

was above him.

And something...

was sleeping beneath everything.

---

16. THE THING UNDER REALITY

The child whispered...

"Don't look."

Milo looked anyway.

Below them...

was an infinite darkness.

Something moved inside it.

Slowly.

A shape.

Too large to understand.

A hand.

Then another.

A head.

Then...

an eye.

Not the eye in the sky.

This eye...

was beneath reality.

It opened.

Milo heard a voice.

Not through his ears.

Inside his thoughts.

WHO WOKE ME?

Milo couldn't speak.

Diana grabbed his hand.

Tarzan raised his banana like a weapon.

"ME."

Milo stared at him.

"Tarzan!"

Tarzan shrugged.

"IT WAS GOING TO FIND OUT."

The enormous eye looked at Tarzan.

Silence.

Then...

the creature laughed.

The sound shook every universe.

Tarzan smiled.

"SEE?"

Milo whispered...

"That's not funny."

Tarzan nodded.

"IT IS A LITTLE FUNNY."

The child stepped forward.

"Stop."

The eye focused on him.

YOU.

The child froze.

YOU WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO EXIST.

The child lowered his head.

Milo stepped in front of him.

"Leave him alone."

The eye turned toward Milo.

YOU AGAIN.

Milo's heart stopped.

"You know me?"

The eye whispered...

I CREATED THE FIRST VERSION.

Milo stared.

"The first version of what?"

The eye answered...

YOU.

---

17. THE ORIGINAL MILO

The world shook.

The child grabbed Milo's hand.

"Run."

Milo didn't move.

"Where?"

"Anywhere."

"That doesn't make sense."

The child shouted...

"ANYWHERE IS BETTER THAN HERE!"

Milo finally ran.

Diana followed.

Tarzan followed.

The darkness chased them.

Behind them...

worlds collapsed.

Stars went out.

Moons shattered.

Earths disappeared.

Milo saw millions of versions of himself...

running alongside them.

Some were screaming.

Some were laughing.

Some were fighting.

Some were crying.

One carried a sword.

One wore a crown.

One was a child.

One was an old man.

One was blind.

One had no face.

One had wings.

One was made of light.

One...

was empty.

Milo looked at him.

The empty Milo looked back.

Then pointed.

At the child.

Milo stopped.

"What?"

The empty Milo mouthed something.

Milo understood.

HE IS THE KEY.

The child looked at Milo.

"Don't listen."

Milo grabbed his hand.

"Why are you afraid?"

The child whispered...

"Because if you remember what I am..."

A pause.

"...I disappear."

---

18. TOMORROW'S LAST SECRET

Milo stopped running.

Diana turned.

"What are you doing?"

Milo looked at the child.

"Who are you?"

The child stared at the ground.

"I told you."

"Your name."

"Tomorrow."

"No."

The child looked up.

Milo continued...

"Your real name."

Silence.

The child began crying.

Tarzan lowered his banana.

Diana stepped closer.

The child finally whispered...

"Beginning."

Milo froze.

"What?"

"My name is Beginning."

The worlds stopped moving.

The darkness stopped.

The eye stopped.

Everything...

became silent.

The child continued...

"I am what comes before every dream."

Milo stared.

"Then why did you call yourself Tomorrow?"

"Because every beginning..."

He smiled through his tears.

"...looks like tomorrow."

Milo understood.

"You aren't the future."

"No."

"You're the possibility of a future."

The child nodded.

"And you..."

Milo looked at him.

"...are the first question."

The child smiled.

"Yes."

---

19. THE LAST QUESTION

The First Mind appeared.

Then the Author.

Then the Girl.

Then the Keeper.

Then the Walker.

Then Arjun.

Then Gandalf.

Then every version of Diana.

Every version of Tarzan.

Every version of Milo.

All standing together.

The infinite worlds surrounded them.

The enormous eye watched.

The First Mind spoke...

"Choose."

Milo looked around.

"Choose what?"

The Author answered...

"Which world survives."

Milo stared.

"Only one?"

"Yes."

The Keeper nodded.

"The others must end."

The Walker whispered...

"Every choice has a cost."

The Girl said...

"Every world contains someone who believes it is real."

Diana stepped beside Milo.

"What if he refuses?"

The Author smiled.

"Then all worlds remain."

Milo looked at him.

"And?"

The Author's face became serious.

"Then reality will tear itself apart."

Milo closed his eyes.

Millions of worlds.

Millions of lives.

Millions of possibilities.

One choice.

One world.

One ending.

Tarzan stepped beside him.

"CHOOSE THE JUNGLE."

Milo smiled.

Diana whispered...

"Choose carefully."

The child looked at him.

"Or..."

Milo opened his eyes.

"...don't choose."

Everyone froze.

The First Mind stared.

"What?"

Milo smiled.

"You said every choice creates something."

The child nodded.

Milo continued...

"Then refusing to choose..."

He looked at the infinite worlds.

"...creates another possibility."

The Author's face changed.

"No."

Milo smiled.

"Yes."

The universe began shaking.

The First Mind whispered...

"You're creating a new world."

Milo nodded.

"One where nobody has to disappear."

---

20. THE WORLD THAT DREAMED ITSELF

Milo reached toward the child.

The child took his hand.

Diana took Milo's other hand.

Tarzan grabbed Diana's.

Then...

everyone connected.

The worlds began merging.

Not destroying.

Not collapsing.

Merging.

One jungle became another.

One Earth became another.

One sky became thousands.

Different histories.

Different futures.

Different lives.

All coexisting.

The enormous eye screamed.

The sound shattered stars.

The Author fell to his knees.

The First Mind disappeared.

The Keeper vanished.

The Walker vanished.

The Girl smiled.

"Now..."

She whispered...

"...you understand."

Milo looked at her.

"What?"

She answered...

"Reality was never one world."

A pause.

"It was always a conversation."

The Girl disappeared.

The Author disappeared.

The First Mind disappeared.

Only Milo...

Diana...

Tarzan...

and the child remained.

The child looked at Milo.

"What's your choice?"

Milo smiled.

"I choose the question."

The child laughed.

"Good."

The universe exploded.

Not into darkness.

Into light.

---

21. THE MORNING AFTER TOMORROW

Milo opened his eyes.

He was standing in a field.

Blue sky.

Green grass.

One moon.

Normal.

Diana stood beside him.

Tarzan was eating.

Of course.

Milo looked around.

"Is this Earth?"

Diana smiled.

"I think so."

Milo laughed.

"You think?"

She nodded.

"That's progress."

Tarzan raised his banana.

"I KNOW."

Milo looked at him.

"What?"

Tarzan pointed.

"THAT IS A BANANA."

Milo laughed.

Diana laughed.

For the first time...

the world felt quiet.

Then...

a child ran across the field.

Milo stopped.

The child looked familiar.

Very familiar.

He turned.

Their eyes met.

The child smiled.

Then ran away.

Milo whispered...

"Beginning."

Diana looked at him.

"What?"

Milo shook his head.

"Nothing."

He looked toward the horizon.

The sun was rising.

But there was something strange about it.

The sunlight...

was moving backward.

The morning...

was becoming night.

The stars...

were appearing in daylight.

Diana whispered...

"Milo."

He looked.

Above the horizon...

a second sun appeared.

Then a third.

Then...

a fourth.

Tarzan stopped eating.

"THAT..."

He swallowed.

"...IS DEFINITELY NOT A BANANA."

Milo stared.

The four suns aligned.

A massive door appeared between them.

It opened.

Behind it...

was a bedroom.

A child slept in a bed.

A woman sat beside him.

She was crying.

The child opened his eyes.

Looked directly at Milo.

And whispered...

"Mom..."

The woman leaned closer.

"What?"

The child pointed toward the door.

"There."

She looked.

Milo froze.

The woman...

had his mother's face.

Milo's breath stopped.

He whispered...

"Mom?"

The woman looked directly at him.

Her eyes widened.

"Milo?"

Diana grabbed his arm.

"Who is she?"

Milo couldn't answer.

Because the woman stood up.

Walked toward the door.

And whispered—

"You finally woke up."

The child behind her...

wasn't sleeping anymore.

He was smiling.

Holding a banana.

And his eyes...

were completely black.

The door slammed shut.

The four suns disappeared.

Everything went dark.

THUMP.

THUMP.

THUMP.

Milo heard the voice again.

The same voice from inside his mind.

But this time...

it wasn't telling him to wake up.

It whispered...

"You were never the dreamer."

A pause.

"You were the dream."

Milo's eyes widened.

Then another voice...

answered from somewhere beyond reality.

His own voice.

Older.

Colder.

Terrified.

"And now..."

Silence.

"...the dreamer is awake."

Milo turned toward Diana.

She was gone.

Tarzan was gone.

The child was gone.

The field was gone.

Only darkness remained.

And somewhere...

far away...

a woman began singing.

A lullaby.

The same lullaby Milo remembered from childhood.

The darkness whispered...

"Episode Seventy-Three..."

A pause.

"THE DREAMER WHO DREAMED MILO."

Then...

a baby's cry...

echoed across the universe.

And somewhere beyond time...

something opened its eyes.
