Chapter 6 - The Chantings

The phone's screen still did not display its usual wallpaper or the apps I've downloaded over the past three years. However, a single text appeared on it with the options 'yes' or 'no'.

[Do you want to bind this device to you permanently? (Warning: once the device is bound, you won't be able to switch to any other device for a period of one year, even if the device is damaged.)]

Since I was not in a hurry, I decided to wait until after this process was completed before binding myself to the phone. Now, I had a very important decision to make. What was I supposed to do till this awakening process ends? Like, I could cook something, but since I don't feel hungry at all, let's leave that option out. What else could I do? Go outside? nah, that's too risky—finally, the only viable option. Give my body some rest and sleep until this thing is over.

But would that be the most productive thing to do? Don't most protagonists in such apocalyptic times prepare for the times ahead? Don't they craft weapons and whatnot to actually enable them to hunt monsters and protect themselves? Maybe I should do the same. But the most weapon-like thing in my house is probably a sharper one among my kitchen knives, and I don't think pepper spray affects the monsters as much as it does humans.

Once I stepped downstairs, now that I was not panicking as much anymore, I discovered some changes that I had been unable to notice before. The apple I had left on the counter of the kitchen now seemed to have some corroding acid poured over it.

Horrified, thinking that all the other edible items were in a similar state, I changed my plans and started looking at the different food items I possessed. The oranges lying in a basket on the table in the living room seemed to have suffered a similar fate as the apple, though the effect on them was not as much as the apple; maybe the thick peel protected them. As if to puzzle me further, the flour and the milk seemed to be completely unaffected. Though I was not going to risk my life to eat or drink something which may have undergone changes that had made them poisonous or worse, disgustingly bad in taste, especially when I don't even feel hungry.

Well, maybe I could spend the remaining time before my and the world's awakening completes to hypothesise theories on why some food and substances underwent many changes, while others remained unchanged. But is that really how I want to spend the remaining time before my life completely changes? Well, since I don't have anything else to do, let's just do this.

So, as I've postulated earlier, most things that have retained their functions, the windows, unlike the walls and the floor, were completely bare of the golden cover. But what functions does food play? Obviously, it satisfies our appetite, but then why are the apples and oranges in that state? Fruits and vegetables do perform certain biological functions and are considered living.

So I guess, I can draw the conclusion that the Golden rain lets inorganic or non-living matter retain their basic functions, as for the living beings- I am not completely sure about this, but if my hypothesis is correct, based on my observations and my conversation with that guy, there is a high chance that all the living beings that are deemed unworthy of being transformed are probably dead. But how are living beings separated based on who is worthy to be transformed, and who isn't? Does that depend on the species size and durability, or individual durability? And why have most of these people who have transformed lost their sanity?

I decided to keep note of these questions and keep them with me till the next time I can access that room with the pen of Vishanti and that book.

Now that I have reached a bottleneck in my theories, I guess I'll get back to searching for objects I can use to craft something handy that can actually help me. I proceeded to open all the drawers in the kitchen. I did find some sharp knives, a few matches and some oil, but nothing else seemed very useful. I do remember having an old metal pipe in the storage, maybe I could use it and one of the longer and sharper knives to create a makeshift spear.

Once I had assembled everything I required, which included a long and sharp knife, the metal pipe, which, though now golden, I could tell was far rustier than I remember it being, some wires and ropes, matches and a bottle of oil. I laid down the pipe, poured some oil over one end, then, with great effort and force, fitted the handle of the knife in that end. I was then careful with igniting that part with the match so that it could be smelted together. Finally, I bound the knife more securely with the wire and the rope. TADA- Now I have a makeshift weapon. But seriously, I should test it against something to test its durability and effectiveness. But what could I even test it against?

""A New Power Rises As The Old One Fades, The Primordial Vanishes as Her heir wakes"

I could feel the blood coming out of my ears as a soul-clenching sound of a billion demons speaking in unison, seemingly coming from every direction, reached my ears.

""The Cosmos's Consciousness Holds the sway, as the Winds and Light fade away""

Every word hurt not only my ears, but also my soul like a bullet as the voices went on.

""Beyond the Green Worlds Covered in Hay, Lies the Treasure to Protect the Supreme's Gateway""

I covered my ears with my hands, with a cushion, but could not stop those voices from reaching my ears. Though the pendant and the energy were constantly healing me, they could not completely stop the pain I felt from the loud voices. Though I heard every word clearly, I could not make sense of a single one. The voices, though continued, leaving me rolling on the floor, groaning in pain.

""The Lion And Horse Both Collide, A Thousand-Year Battle, Both Dying In The Hands Of The Veythos's Wright.""

""The God In Fire Rises High When The Golden Elephant Crumbles by""

I wanted to die, or at the very least faint, but the energy and the pendant would not allow me. I could only make sense of half the words that were being spoken, but if I was asked to repeat these, I was pretty sure I could repeat this gibberish word for word. By the time I reached the twenty-third, I tried to stab myself with a knife, though it managed to create a wound, it healed in a moment.

""The server's death will be a major player, for the consciousness devoured of the God-silver-haired.""

By the thirty-seventh, I gave up any futile efforts to escape from this agony; by this point, I think it would be better if I actually tried to interpret what these lines mean. They sound vague and prophetic. I don't think they could be anything other than prophecies, but who are these prophecies even talking about? They mention many gods many times, but that guy told me that the God of this world is already dead. So these prophecies should be about more than just this world, and was that guy from earlier actually the silver-haired god being talked about here? He definitely looks like a God, and if it is indeed him, should I try to somehow contact him through the book, if I even can?

Though I was still able to lowkey think clearly even in such pain as I rolled on the floor in pain, The seventy-first prophecy, the longest one yet, disrupted my pace of thoughts.

""The Seven Die in His Arms, As Bob the Mighty Kills all Realms, The World Devourer As his Mount, The Resurrected Lord Against the Cosmic Heed. Saving the God works no Better as Save him, He did, But Against the Cosmic Clatter"

The world grew silent all of a sudden. It had been several minutes since this prophecy was spoken, but none followed after this. I felt many emotions right now, anxious, scared, many more, but most of all-Curious. The person or God, whosoever he was, did say that I was special, but was I actually Bob the Mighty from the prophecy? If so, why would I kill someone?

For God's sake, I am a vegan, and I am against all kinds of violence there is. If I could actually survive, I would not even want to harm any plants and just go on without eating. But anyways, I don't think I am gonna get anything out by dwelling on this, but still, just thinking about this makes me anxious, and who even is the God that is being talked about here? What is my connection with them?

By now, the bleeding in my ears had stopped, but the area surrounding my ears was completely covered in blood. I have no idea of what I am supposed to do right now. I am pretty sure it has at least been several hours since this started, although for some reason I do remember every prophecy word by word, I have no idea what I was gonna do before that.

Several minutes later, only ten words were spoken. It seemed less of a prophecy but a message.

"" Everything is Going to End, Save it If you Can""
