Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Forest

A few more days passed. By this time everybody had awakened. He planned to take them exploring the subterranean world.

Then after he might teach them written language. When he disclosed that to others they barely had any reaction besides Lucy.

She was so excited she begged him to teach them right that moment. Viona on the other hand and a few brave men were more excited about exploring the subterranean world.

Lucy wasn't so enthusiastic but changed her mind when he said there might be new interesting things down there.

So after they tested their strength and abilities. He took six men and six women not including Viona and Lucy.

Besides Lucy he only brought two other mages, the man who had the fire attribute and a woman with a wind attribute.

The first layer was fine, they had explored a portion of it before. The only creatures there were the rats and bats.

However he forbade them from killing the bats and the rat's meat was not very tasty so they mostly ignored them.

Then they arrived at the end of the first layer which was over 15 kilometres away. What they found was a tunnel leading down.

Viona led them down, Khali followed behind them. They descended for around a hundred metres before coming out to a larger world.

He found them standing there unmoving with their mouths wide open however when he looked around he saw why they were like that.

The entire space glistened with shiny metals and gems. This place was full of resources just laying about.

He could see gold, silver and even titanium. This place was rich enough to drive the greed of any man to divine levels.

The others were greatly shaken by this sight though. Although according to them this world was rich in metallic resources due to it nature.

Almost every place that can produce any type of metal was under the control of the Red sun empire.

Which he learnt was the empire ruling this world, it also controlled all of the awakened and all the resources like the rare water sources.

So seeing so many metals at once was shocking to them. However he was a former God so it didn't shock him that much, he had seen entire planets made of adamantine Atrolium, known as the strongest mortal metal.

" Let move on." He told them while continuing forward. "But.." Lucy tried to protest. " We'll deal with it later." He told her. They all nodded and continued forward.

They didn't meet any lifeforms here until they found the tunnel to go further down. They stood Infront of it unmoving.

" Are you sure we should continue?" Viona asked him. " You're free to go back but I'm going

I feel like there's something I need down there." She nodded. " Then I'll follow you to the end."

He turned and looked at her then went down the tunnel. They all followed behind him, as he was going down he felt the temperature cool down.

Then he felt a breeze which made no sense to him. They were deep underground, probably more than a few hundred metres deep.

There shouldn't be a breeze here. When he reached the end of the tunnel he understood why there was a breeze.

The entire place was a forest, a deep forest with tall trees. The roof of this underground world stood over 400 metres above.

More than twice the height of the tunnel leading down here which made no sense. Worst still, these trees were green and healthy.

He didn't understand how that was possible without sunlight but figured it was probably due to mana, although there was light above, it was artificial light but not sunlight.

Also the mana density here was high, much higher than their cave. " Oh my God are these trees?" Asked Lucy with excitement.

He nodded. " Yes, but not just trees." he crouched and rubbed the ground. " This is grass and those are flowers." He pointed at a bungle of flowers

Then he pulled out his sword and walked into the forest cautiously. Viona followed behind him, the others didn't have steel swords, he didn't want to waste his divine energy creating them.

So they created stone swords instead, they were heavier, more brittle but they worked. They followed him into the forest, looking around curiously.

He continued walking forward vigilantly, ready for anything to come out however nothing did. No matter how deep they went into the forest there were no lifeforms.

" Strange." He whispered. " What?" Viona asked. He looked up at the canopy of the tall trees.

They were so dense the light above couldn't pierce through them. So the land below the trees was dark and covered in shadows.

He turned to look at her. " It's quiet, too quiet." Lucy looked confused. " Isn't that a good thing?" She asked.

Viona answered before he could. " Not at all, if the legends are true then this is a forest, it should be home to multiple different lifeforms."

He nodded agreeing with her. " Maybe it's artificial and whoever made it forgot to put animals here." Lucy said trying to make herself calm.

They both turned to look at her and saw the unease in her eyes." Let continue." He ordered them and continued walking forward. Suddenly while walking he felt as if something moved.

He turned his head and saw nothing. Then he felt himself being watched but not just him, the others felt it as well.

" Sir Khali, I'm not comfortable being here." Complained one of the women. Not that he could blame her.

He felt exactly the same, this forest gave him the jibbies. This was a feeling he was not used to so it was very exciting to him.

He felt his heart pounding in his chest like drums, it was very uncomfortable, he was still not used to these feelings.

So they excited him no matter how uncomfortable they feel. " Why are you smiling?" Lucy asked.

He touched his face. " I am? Ah, I guess I am." They all shook their heads. Everybody knew sir Khali was a weird guy.

While they were walking he stepped on something and heard a snap. For a moment he thought it was a broken branch but it felt harder than that.

He lit up a fire then looked down. When he saw what he stepped on he knew why there were no signs of life here.

" Run."
