The summons came three days after the garden incident. Three days of Selene trying to process what she'd seen, what she'd felt, what it all meant.
Three days of her wolf being even more restless and agitated than before.
And now she was being summoned to the head steward's office. That was never good. Servants only got called there when they'd done something wrong or when something major was changing.
Selene's mind raced through possibilities as she climbed the stairs to the administrative wing. Had someone discovered her snooping near the King's chambers? Had Marcus finally convinced someone she was a thief? Had her disguise failed somehow?
She knocked on Master Korin's door, her heart pounding.
"Enter."
Korin sat behind his desk, looking even more stern and severe than usual. He gestured to the chair across from him.
"Sit."
