Chapter 28 - Chapter 28

Leonard and Olivia lay in bed for a while until Olivia mentioned she was cold. He rose from the bed, donned his trousers, and lit the fireplace.

Olivia slipped on Leonard's shirt, not wanting to put on the uncomfortable dress she had worn earlier. Outside, the rain was pouring down, and it had grown completely dark. Leonard took out the basket of snacks that had been prepared for them and grabbed one of the blankets. He sat on the couch and beckoned, "Come."

Olivia seated herself beside him, and Leonard wrapped her in the blanket, enveloping her with his arms. They ate and eventually fell asleep watching the flickering flames f the fireplace.

The next morning, Leonard was awoken by the sound of birds pecking at the windowpane. The fireplace had gone out, and Olivia was sleeping serenely in his arms. He watched her for a moment but realized they should return to her parents' home since it was likely his mother was worried about them and, if they delayed too long, would send someone to look for them.

He tried to rouse Olivia, but she just curled up and settled back against his chest. He pinched her check, and she woke up, protesting, "That hurts."

"You're so hard to wake up; you're a heavy sleeper," he responded.

When Olivia attempted to get up to change, she felt back and leg pain, stumbled, and fell onto Leonard's legs. He held her close and teased, "Are you trying to seduce me?"

Olivia's face flushed with embarrassment as she quickly explained, "Of course not, my legs and back just hurt."

Leonard slipped his hand under the shirt Olivia was wearing, touched one of her breasts, and offered. "Do you want help getting dressed?"

Olivia knew that if he helped her, it would likely lead to them making love again before she was fully clothed. So she forced herself to get up, refusing his offer with, "No need, I can do it myself."

Leonard crossed his legs and simply said, "As you wish."

Olivia changed as best she could and returned the shirt to Leonard, who finished dressing and went to fetch the horse he had tied up. Before they left, he inquired, "Are you well enough to ride the horse, or shall we wait for a carriage?"

"I'm fine to ride," Olivia assured him.

Leonard helped her mount, circled an arm around her, and they set off. Upon reaching the mansion, Leonard's mother awaited them at the doorstep, nearly ready to send someone after them. She greeted them with. "I was quit worried about you about."

"We got distracted, and the rain caught us, so we stayed at the cabin near the chapel," Leonard explained.

His mother found it a bit odd since it had started raining late enough they should have been able to return without getting caught in it. However, she chose not to comment.

Taking Olivia's hand, Leonard's mother suggested, "Dear, you should eat something and take a bath. Afterward, we'll go to town." Olivia hurried along after her mother-in-law, with Leonard trailing behind them as he remarked, "Since I'm free, I'll come along."

Turning to him, his mother counteredly said, "If you've nothing to do, start planning your wedding."

She moved on, assuring Olivia, "You'll like the town very much."

They headed inside, and as they went up to the room, a servant served Olivia a lavish breakfast, which she devoured while her mother-in-law excitedly described all the sights they would visit. Once the servants had prepared her bath, they assisted her in undressing, and upon noticing the red mark on Olivia's neck, one commented, "It seems the Duchess is deeply loved by the young master."

Embarrassed upon realizing what they were referencing, Olivia's face reddened and she dove into the tub.

The servants prepared a beautiful sky-blue dress, which Olivia disliked wearing, preferring her usual attire instead. They arranged a set of loose-fitting black pants that resembled a skirt and a pastel pink shirt with delicate floral embroidery. With the weather turning chiller, she donned a black jacket specially made for her by madam Margaret.

When Leonard's mother saw Olivia, she complimented, "You look very lovely in those clothes."

Relieved, since wearing dresses constantly was uncomfortable for her, Olivia thanked her warmly.

"You look quite comfortable, maybe I took should start replacing these uncomfortable dresses. But come, sit and let me do your hair," her mother-in-law proposed.

Sarine styled Olivia hair into a fishtail braid, adorned with pastel pink flowers pins, and after finishing, asked, "There, what do you think?"

Admiring herself in the mirror, Olivia expressed her delight, "I love it, thank you so much."

"It's such a joy to have here as I've always wanted a daughter. I hope you'll visit often," Sarine confided.

"Being here makes me very happy too." Olivia responded.

Since Olivia's own mother had never been affectionate with her, being treated like a daughter by Leonard's mother meant a great deal. As the two descended the stairs, they encountered Leonard, and Sarine firmly told him, "Don't even think about coming with us."

"I wasn't planning on it anyway," he replied.

Sarine took Olivia's hand and the two hurried out, leaving Leonard behind. They were off to see wedding dresses, and it was deemed back luck for the groom to see the dress before the wedding, which is why she had firmly forbidden Leonard from accompanying them.

When Olivia and her mother left, Leonard went to his father's office to ask for help in planning his wedding, as he had no idea what to do. As he entered the office, his father looked up from the papers on his desk and said, "And now what do you want?'

'Help me plan my wedding.'

'I am very busy, go find someone else to help you.'

'I have no one else to ask, you have already been married once so I suppose you know how it works, so help me.'

Leonard's father sighed, knowing his son wouldn't leave until he gave him some ideas. He said, 'You can start by asking Olivia what she would like, that's always the easiest. It worked for me with your mother.'

'Hmm... Maybe you're right.'

'Yes, I am. Now go, I have a lot of work to do.'

Leonard left his father's office and as he walked out, he found a beautiful young woman with blonde hair sitting in the living room. When she saw him, she stood up and said, 'It's been a long time since I last saw you.'

As Leonard looked closely at the girl's face, he remembered who she was and said, 'Yes, it has been a long time.'

...

When they arrived in the city, Sarine took Olivia to her favorite fashion house. There were beautiful dresses in the shop window, and they were warmly greeted upon entering since it seemed that the Duchess used to come there often to buy clothes. A very elegant lady approached them and asked, "How many I assist you?'

'We want a wedding dress,' Sarine replied.

The lady, who seemed to be the owner, guided them to a small room, served them tea and cookies, and showed them a catalog filled with beautiful dresses adorned with rhinestones and ruffles. Olivia didn't like any of them, so in the end, she said to the lady who was attending to them, 'Could you make a dress without ruffles or rhinestones, something simple?'

'Oh, my dear, on your wedding day, you must look spectacular, you can't wear something simple.'

Olivia felt uncomfortable as she hated that type of dress. The first time she got married, she had hated her mother's dress precisely because of that, and now that she had the chance to fix that embarrassing memory, she didn't want to wear such a dress again.

'I'm sorry, but I don't like that type of dress, they are really uncomfortable to me. If you can't make the dress I'm asking for, it's better if we go somewhere else.'

The owner of the shop, upon hearing Olivia's intention to go to another store, nervously said,' Of course, my lady, I was just giving you a suggestion. We will make the dress exactly as you wish, please tell me exactly how you want it, and we will take care of it as soon as possible.'

Olivia told her how she wanted the owner made several sketches for her, but some were too simple and boring, and she didn't like them. In the end, she told the owner to combine two of the sketches she had made, and then they left. Sarine took Olivia to a candy store, where they ordered a variety of candies since Olivia wanted to try them all.

Sarine couldn't believe that such a small person could eat so much. She even thought that eating maybe Olivia was pregnant and eating for two. That's partly why she had brought Olivia to her own room because if her son was anything like his father, he would likely not give Olivia any rest during the night. However, he had purposely taken her to the mountain so that he could be with her all night.

When Leonard and Olivia returned, Sarine noticed that Olivia was having a little difficultly walking, so she could already imagine what the two of them had been doing the previous day. Sarine passed her a plate of strawberry cake and said, 'Do you want to try this?'

'Yes.'

Olivia had eaten a large amount of pastries, but she still had room for one more, as she had eaten very little in the morning. Leonard's mother couldn't stop observing her, and Olivia felt a bit uncomfortable.

When they finished eating, Sarine asked her, 'Do you.

"Do you want us to go home or would you like to take a walk before returning?"

Olivia still felt sore legs and back, so she said. "The truth is, I'm a little tired, I'd prefer to go home and rest for a bit if you think that's okay."

"Of course, my dear, we'll come another time so you can get to know the city better."

As they left the store, they got into the carriage and Sarine asked Olivia. "How have you been lately, do you feel dizzy or have you had nausea?"

"Hmm... Before coming here, I was in bed for a few days because I felt really dizzy, but now I'm fine."

Olivia didn't tell Sarine that her dizziness was due to the blow to her head from falling off the bed because of Leonard, as she didn't want to get him into more trouble.

"I see, you must take good care of your health."

"Yes, I will."

When they arrived at the mansion, Olivia saw Leonard walking in the garden with a beautiful blonde girl, walking side by side. The girl stumbled and before falling to the ground, Leonard caught her in his arms. Seeing that scene, Olivia felt her heart squeeze in her chest and she felt upset. Just a few hours ago, he had been with her, whispering words of love in her ear, and now she found him embracing another girl.

Olivia stormed into the house in anger and locked herself in her room. Sarine who had gotten off last, didn't know why Olivia had rushed off. Looking at the garden, she saw her son with Vanessa Graham. She was the daughter of one of their distant relatives who used to visit from time too time. Sarine understood why Olivia had entered the house so quickly and who must be very upset after seeing that scene.
