"I'm sorry, Your Highness. The other prince…he stopped me from…" Fizzy stares at the ground, kneeling as his hands tremble uncontrollably.
"You mean Kaelis?" Helios asks quietly.
Fizzy flinches.
He knew that tone.
That tone meant Helios was calm.
And calm was never good.
Because when Helios became calm, it meant he was thinking.
Assessing.
Deciding.
And that terrified Fizzy far more than shouting ever did.
Helios only spoke like that when he was deeply displeased.
Fizzy takes a shaky breath and forces himself to continue.
"Y-Yes, Your Highness. Prince Kaelis was with Captain Ezra."
"And what were they doing together so early in the morning?" Helios asks again, his voice still level.
Fizzy swallows.
"As you informed me, Captain Ezra said he was sick. Something about his stomach." He lowers his head further. "Prince Kaelis was accompanying him because he didn't have direct access around the palace."
There was no point lying.
