Chapter 138 - Pressure Points

The day after the recalibration, the Triangle resumed its rhythm as if nothing had shifted. Schedules posted on time. Instructors arrived with the same clipped efficiency. Projection grids lit on cue. From a distance, it would have looked like the academy had absorbed the prior incident without disruption.

Up close, the fractures were visible.

Groups that had once trained fluidly now paused to confirm position twice. Tier-B rotations were slower. Anchor roles shifted more frequently, as if no one quite trusted their footing yet. Conversations ended when certain names entered the room, not out of fear, but because words felt heavier now.

Responsibility had texture.

Lucas felt it during morning drills. The formation exercise was simple—three-person rotation against staggered projectiles—but no one moved casually anymore. Every pivot came with verification. Every shift in lane required a glance.

It made the drill cleaner.

It also made it slower.
