Alpha Kale POV

I vaguely remembered my legs moving.

I only knew I was running because the trees were blurring past me, because my chest was burning, because Mulan's ragged sobs were fading behind me like a nightmare I couldn't wake from.

She shot them. That was what she said to me. I shot them.

She shot our boys and the dragon princess I sold my soul to acquire.

She shot them and now I was running.

I never run.

Not even when I was informed of my father's death during my visit to the northern packs at sixteen. I couldn't remember the last time I ran for something. Or anyone.

Yet my boots pounded the ground in the dark woods that smelled of pine and that disgusting scent of damp leaves.

Behind me, Mulan stumbled after me crying. She had been crying since the throne room. Since she told me she shot our children.

I could barely look at her. Barely wrap my head around the information.

The world narrowed.
