Chase's POV
We rode in silence.
Three of us. One carriage. Grey in one corner. Tilly in the middle. Me in the other.
It was suffocating.
My mother had opted to ride with the coachman. Something about fresh air. Really, she was avoiding me. Avoiding the conversation I was going to force her to have.
I watched Tilly. She pretended not to notice.
I watched Grey. He pretended to stay out of it.
An hour passed.
My mother climbed back into the carriage. She sat beside me to talk but ended up following my gaze.
I was watching them. Greyson and Tilly.
They had fallen asleep. His head had moved closer to hers and just like that she curled into him.
Her head was on his chest. His arms were wrapped around her.
Neither of them woke up.
My mother shifted, uncomfortably and made a move to wake them.
I stopped her.
"It's alright, Mother. Let them sleep."
"It's not right, Chase" she said. "None of this is right, Bubba. Nothing about it. Just let me wake them—"
