[Eastern Battlefield of Zahryssar — Nightfall]
The sun had disappeared long ago. Its final crimson light slowly faded beyond the distant mountains; darkness swallowed the battlefield, and one by one...the screams became quieter and the clashing of steel slowed.
The earth, which had trembled beneath thousands of soldiers, finally became still, then...a deep horn echoed across the battlefield.
BWOOOOOOOOOOOOO—
Every Imperial soldier immediately froze. Captain Varesh slowly lowered his blood-covered sword; his chest rose and fell violently as he whispered,
"Retreat, the Black Serpents...are withdrawing."
Silence.
The Imperial Army stared in confusion across the battlefield...the endless sea of Black Serpents slowly began slithering backward, not running, not fleeing, simply...retreating like an endless black tide returning to the ocean.
No one chased them, and no one moved; everyone simply watched as thousands upon thousands...of Black Serpents disappeared into the darkness.
