I managed to return home before anyone woke up and took a quick shower before climbing into bed.
It wasn't to sleep but it was just to make it seem like I had been in bed the entire time instead of being the earliest to wake up.
But as soon as I climbed into bed, my door suddenly creaked open.
Hmm? That's odd… It's like seven in the morning so it's not like I overslept or anything right? I'm pretty sure my parents would only wake up after eight and my sister would be awake by nine.
As for me… Since I usually do all nighters, I would be up by around ten or eleven so it's weird that someone is coming in here this early.
I tried to pretend that I was asleep and laid back in my bed, staying as still as possible.
The door closed and I heard the soft thump of footsteps walking over towards me before stopping at the edge of the bed.
I thought about chancing a peek to see who it was but decided against it and remained motionless.
Then I felt my blanket being pulled aside before a weight settled beside me, pushing itself close to me.
I jumped a little and looked at my side, finding my sister laying beside me with a smug grin on her face.
"What the fuck, Hui Zhen?!" I cried out.
She giggled, "Ehehe~ Oh no, Gor Gor called me by my name, that means I'm in trouble now~"
"What are you doing?"
"Just wondering how long you are going to keep your secrets, Gor Gor~"
I narrowed my eyes at her, "What are you talking about?"
She tapped her chin with a hand while propping up her head with the other, "Mmm… I think maybe it has something to do with my dear Gor Gor leaving the house in the middle of the night? I wonder where he could have gone?"
She saw me? Why was she even awake at that ungodly hour?
"I have no idea what you're talking about," I lied.
She puffed her cheeks at me before she shook her head, "If Gor Gor doesn't want to tell me, it's fine… But in that case, let me sleep with you sometimes~"
I frowned at her, "While I have no idea what you're talking about… Why the heck do you even want to sleep here? Don't you have your own bed in your room?"
"Because Gor Gor is a big dummy, that's why. That's why I have to watch over you, you know?"
I don't know what she meant by that but I have a feeling what she really wanted was to make sure that I don't sneak out of the house again.
Figuring that I probably can't hide it from her for long anyway, I decided that I might as well give her a half truth.
"You know about the event with the attempted assassination on the Mortal God, right?" I asked.
She looked up at me and nodded slowly, "Yes? We were just talking about it yesterday? What about it?"
"Well… I figured that since that happened… It also means that my work as a Guardian might be delayed. Since I had pretty much given myself the mentality of going out to help people, I felt it would be a waste if I just stopped because of that incident, you know?"
"What do you mean, Gor Gor?"
"What I mean is… I'm considering becoming a vigilante."
She smirked at me, "Ahahaha! Are you going to start wearing spandex? Actually, I think you would look good in one! Ahahaha!"
I rolled my eyes at her, "No I will not. This is just me occupying a temporary role, ok? I don't intend to do this full time at all."
"Ah? Was that what you were doing last night? You really just walk around looking for bad guys, is it?"
"Well… I did stop a mugging by some lizard guy…"
My sister gasped, "Eh? Really ah? Ahahaha! You either really lucky or really unlucky, Gor!"
"I would say it's the victim being especially lucky."
She prodded me with her elbow, "Eh, eh~ Was it a pretty girl or not?"
"Why are you so obsessed with it being a girl?"
"Because the last time you saved someone also a girl right? You didn't even get her number! So wasted! Eh, you need to up your game leh! At least ask for the girl's number next time you save one!"
"Sure sure. I'll just let them know that my sister wants their number next time I save them. Anyway, now that you know, you don't need to sleep here anymore right?"
She puffed her cheeks at me, "Why? You don't like having me around, is it?"
"Yes. You're annoying."
She turned around to look at the door, "MAA--"
I covered her mouth immediately before she could shout for our mother.
"Hui Zhen!! Shush!! Alright, alright! Fine! Just don't tell our parents!"
She turned around to give me a sly smile, "Then you agree, right? Ehehehe~"
I picked up my pillow and smacked her with it, "Shut up. Or else I'm tying you up every time I leave the house."
She let out a gasp of fake surprise, "Gasp! Gor Gor~ Since when were you into BDSM? So kinky!"
I smacked her with the pillow again, "Shut up. Go back to your room already."
"Eyyy… You already say you'll let me sleep here! So I'm sleeping here!"
I tapped my phone, "Now what time already? Mom and dad are going to wake up soon. It's going to be weird if they find you here."
"It's fine~ Don't worry about it, Gor Gor! Come, come! Sleepy, sleepy! You didn't sleep last night, right?"
I could tell her that I didn't need to sleep but that would just invite more questions.
Just as I was thinking about giving in, the door suddenly opened again and judging by how forcefully it was opened, there was no doubt that the person opening it was mother.
I prepared myself to start coming up with some bullshit to explain why my sister was here but then she suddenly faded out of existence right in front of me, not even leaving a trace of her.
The door then swung completely open to reveal mother standing at the doorway and looking at me weirdly.
Agghhh!! I should have seen this coming!! She was setting me up the entire time wasn't she?! She sent a clone here to mess with me, fully planning on making her disappear the moment our mother came in just to prank me!!
"Wah… So surprise. You wake up so early ah? You talking to someone just now?" She asked.
I sighed, "No… I was watching a video just now."
"Wake up already then go wash your face hor. You got work today?"
She's basically asking if I had any expeditions lined up today so I shook my head, "No. I think there might not be any for some time."
"Good, then you can follow me go market. You go and wake up Ah Hui for me also."
I grumbled something in response but my mother was already walking out of the room without waiting for my answer.
I trudged out of my room and headed to my sister's, shoving it open without knocking.
My sister was already up on her bed and she hugged herself with her arms while letting out a fake scream.
"Iyaaaa~ Gor Gor~ Pervert!"
I strolled over to her and drilled my knuckles into the side of her head, this time making her let out a real scream.
"Ahhhhh!! Ouch ouch ouch!!! Wait wait!! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!!" She squealed.
I drilled her head a little more before finally letting her go, my little sister clutching her head with both hands in pain.
"Hurry up and get changed. Mother wants us to follow her to the market."
"Ehhhh… So early! Tell her I'm not awake yet!"
I raised up my fists and glared at her, "Not awake yet? Looks like I didn't do it hard enough then."
"Ahhh!! Ok, ok!! I'm awake, I'm awake!!"
I huffed and took a step back from her to leave the room, ignoring the tongue she stuck out at me as I walked off.
I won't lie though… Despite how annoying she is, I do appreciate that it was thanks to her that my life still had some semblance of normality despite how abnormal my situation has become.
If it wasn't for her… I might actually start doing something stupid before I even realise it.
Hmm… Now I have a question…
Could I have her do the kissing of the back of my hand thing like what Olivia did so that I could gain her cloning power?
Would my clones be able to use my powers too?
If they could… It would definitely make this vigilante work much easier…
Oh well… I'll just leave it as a thought for now.
