I looked back at the people gathered behind me, all of them with determined looks on their faces and also looking at me with eyes of expectation.
They're already placing a lot of trust in me I see… I guess it's because of the fact that I'm a Mortal God so that expectation was on me.
Looking at my squad of followers, I see the elf with the meteor magic, the girl with the shield, the centaur wearing the combat armour, a cat eared boy holding a great sword that was longer than he was tall, and a person that was wrapped in a black cloak that covered them from head to toe without an inch of skin to be seen.
That's all the people I'm getting aside from Olivia I see…
Well, I was prepared to fight that thing with just Olivia and myself to begin with, so having more people is definitely a bonus.
I would like to have more time to figure out what each of their capabilities are to better coordinate them but seeing that the giant Anomaly was still trying to absorb more of its brethren to grow stronger, I don't have the luxury of time right now.
Thus I'm going to need to just judge them by their looks and figure out the rest from there.
I nodded at them, "I will have to apologise for not knowing all of your names right now but as you can see, we don't have the time to exchange pleasantries right now."
All of them nodded as well, fully understanding our situation.
I pointed at the elf, "You, I will need you to do that meteor spell again but on a smaller scale, will you be able to do that?"
She was a little surprised at being addressed directly but recovered quickly, "I will need some time to charge the spell and it will only be effective if it stays still for me to hit it with."
"That's fine," I assured her before turning to the girl with the shield. "Is your shield able to tank hits from that monster?"
She hesitated, "I'm not sure… Maybe it can take one hit… But I'm able to channel it to my sword to enlarge it as well to parry it if needed."
I'm guessing her power is related to weapon enhancement or something.
"Fair enough then. Olivia and I will do our best to take the creature's attention, the rest of us will whittle it down and clear out the mobs around it so that it doesn't get stronger. Can I leave the mob clearing to you three while our shield girl protects the elf?" I asked, looking at the centaur, cat boy and the cloaked person.
All of them nodded and I turned to face the creature, "Let's take this thing down!"
Olivia was the first to charge in, already punching out a bolt of lightning that struck the Anomaly in the side.
The creature let out a roar and turned around to face her, only to see a red streak leaping towards it and punching it across the face.
It stumbled back and flailed all three of its arms at her, trying to catch her while she was in the air.
I kicked off the ground and slammed my shoulder against the creature's leg, forcing it back another step so it was no longer within range of hitting Olivia.
Several of the smaller Anomalies turned to charge at us as though to protect the larger Anomaly, their mutated heads biting at us with impossibly wide jaws.
The sound of machine gun fire filled the air as the centaur skirted along the edge of the fight, gunning them down with a hail of lead.
The cat boy who was at least a head shorter than I was charged in after that, his great sword swinging mightily as he used the momentum to slice through several Anomalies in a single swing.
His sword slammed into the ground and the momentum pivoted him into the air as he flipped around before landing back down on the ground, transferring his momentum back to the sword to swing it at another group of Anomalies.
As for the cloaked figure, they appeared out from the ground to shoot spikes that were made of shadows at a few Anomalies before they melted back into the ground to appear somewhere else.
Behind us, the elf was still charging her spell while the knight girl slashed her sword to cut down an Anomaly that tried to attack the elf, protecting her from harm.
I focused my attention on the giant creature again, the Anomaly raising all three of its fists in preparation to slam it down onto the ground.
That might disrupt the elf's focus in preparing her spell so Olivia and I moved to intercept it, the red Oni jumping up to smash her fist into the creature's abdomen.
As for me, I jumped even higher, using the Anomaly's body as a springboard to reach the same height as its head.
I focused on the feeling that I've started to grow accustomed to and materialised lightning in my fist again before punching it towards the Anomaly.
The lightning struck the creature in its head, stunning it momentarily and giving Olivia time to climb up and deliver another punch under its chin.
Unexpectedly, the Anomaly swung one of its fists wildly as though in reflex which was unfortunate for me because I was in its path.
I threw up my arms right before the fist connected, my world suddenly turning upside down before I got slammed into the ground and pain erupted from all over my body.
I groaned and pulled myself out from the crater that was made from the impact, taking a moment to check myself for injuries.
Seems like I was bruised but at least nothing was broken.
I looked up just in time to see Olivia slam her fist down onto the Anomaly's head again, this time succeeding in knocking it over and sending the creature crashing down onto the ground.
Right on time as well since I saw the tear appear above the monster and a meteor appeared from the tear to drop down on top of the creature.
Olivia leapt away from the impact zone and we were all expecting the rock to smash down on the creature, only for the Anomaly to raise three of its arms to catch the rock before it could smash down on it.
Fuck.
I turned to see the cat boy standing beside me with a look of exasperation on his face.
"I need a boost!" I called out to him, shaking him out from his thoughts.
He nodded and swung his great sword behind him to present the flat of his blade to me.
Without hesitation, I jumped onto his blade before he spun around and flung me towards the creature like a catapult.
I flew over the creature right as it was trying to move the rock aside and I flipped in midair before dropping down on top of the rock, punching it down with all my strength.
There was a loud crack as parts of the rock cracked before the entire thing slipped from the Anomaly's grasp to slam down onto its chest with a deafening crash.
It let out a pained cry but wasn't dead yet since the rock didn't have the momentum it needed to smash through it.
I raised both my fists again before I smashed it down on top of the rock, lightning cackling around my fists.
There was another wail of pain from below me as the rock crushed its chest, flattening the torso of the creature underneath me.
Its arms flailed one final time before they flopped onto the ground, lifeless.
I let out a breath, right before the Jade Book floated in front of me and started flipping through its pages again.
It stopped at the page with the wolf type Anomaly for a moment before it flipped one more time to show a new entry had appeared.
It was a coloured entry of the Anomaly we just killed and something tells me that I have gained some kind of power up as well.
The problem was that I don't know what kind of new power I received.
At least I figured one thing about this Jade Book. Killing my target would create an entry in it and I would most likely gain some of their powers.
But seeing that killing those mobs didn't grant them an entry, it must be limited to creatures that were at least of a certain level in strength.
I'm not sure why Olivia also appeared in the book but I hope it wasn't telling me that I should kill her to get all her powers. Even if it did tell me to do so, I most definitely would not.
I'm not the kind of person who would do anything just to amass personal power.
Still… This doesn't really give me an idea of which mythological figure I awakened as…
Looking back at the battle though… It seems like there were only a handful of Anomalies remaining.
In other words, this battle is our victory.
