Chapter 4 - Chapter 4. A Visit from the Don

Wade woke up from his sleep in the late afternoon. He had spent the entire night at the Tuton residence trashing the place. He didn't find what he was looking for. He couldn't stay any longer because other Tuton goons might come over. He was not afraid of them. The Savino Family had grown much stronger than the Tuton Family these last few years, but going into an open war with them would still cause too much trouble, not to mention the financial cost such a war would incur.

He had drunk himself to sleep. He was in a foul mood. Careful planning that might have given him something to take down the Tuton Family had instead produced zero results.

He made a cup of coffee and went to the glass window to view the scenery while drinking the coffee. His apartment was at the penthouse of their corporate building, the Savino Tower. The building had fifty-eight stories and was in the central district of Fortune City.

As he was enjoying his coffee on the top of the world, he noticed his handphone vibrating on the worktable. He had turned off the sound so his sleep was not disturbed. He now picked up the phone. It was from Quincy, his aide. Aside from the current call, there were twelve other miscalls.

He picked up the call. "What?" He asked.

"Boss, finally! If you haven't picked up the phone, I might just come up to your apartment," Quincy's voice sounded from the phone.

"If you do that, I will throw you from my balcony," Wade returned. "What is it?"

"Someone called about our raid last night."

Wade furrowed his brow. Only their side knew about the raid. He only brought a circle of his trusted men for the job.

"Who?" Wade asked.

"He claimed to be an old member of the Savino Family who had retired. He said his name is Harrison Maxhall."

'Harrison Maxhall?' Wade thought to himself. Why did he feel like he had heard this name before?

"You said retired?" Wade asked. "The only retirement from the Savino Family is to the grave. It is obviously a prank. Why are you disturbing me over this?"

"I also had the same thought, boss," Quincy said. "When I told him to piss off. He warned me that he would call Don Solomon if I didn't let him talk with you."

"My father?" Wade asked with a chuckle. "That guy is truly looking for death. Trace his phone and go mess him up."

"Uh… I will do that if he calls again. Anyway, I laughed his threat off and hung up, but guess what? I joked about this call with my men. One of the old capos overheard our conversation. He came over and asked me to repeat the name of the caller. When I did, he told me I shouldn't have done what I did. He told me to call this Harrison fellow back and did as was requested."

Wade didn't know what to make of this. He was still slightly drowsy. The coffee hadn't kicked in yet.

"Are you still with me, boss?" Quincy asked.

"Yes, yes. I'm still here, for fuck's sake. So, did you call the fellow back?"

"Of course not. I'm not going to do that out of the rambling of an old capo who is already half-senile. It was old Esteban, after all. Anyway, I continued to joke about the matter until I got a call from Don Solomon."

"My father?" Wade asked again. This time, he did not sound amused.

"Yes. He asked me if you are in the tower. I told him you are. He said he is coming over to meet you. He told me to keep you here until he arrives. I've been trying to call you since."

"How long ago was that?" Wade asked.

"Around two hours ago," Quincy answered.

"He should be close if he left immediately after his call," Wade muttered.

His father could be said to be semi-retired. His father left most of the management work to him. His father now spent most of his days in a luxurious farmhouse outside the city. The time it took to drive from that farmhouse to this tower was around two hours.

"I'm not sure if the Don's visit has anything to do with the call from that Harrison's fellow. The Don didn't explain the reason for his visit," Quincy said.

"I'll go take a shower first before he arrives," Wade said and hung up.

He looked at the miscalls recorded in his phone. Most were from Quincy. The rest were from his father.

"Crap," he uttered. His father probably tried calling him a few times before deciding to personally come when he could not be reached. He thought about calling back but decided against it. The old man should arrive soon anyway.

He went to the bathroom and cleaned himself up. When he came out, he received another call from Quincy, informing him that the Don had arrived and was waiting for him in the main office.

The main office was one floor below his penthouse apartment. He took the secure elevator and went down. The elevator door opened, and he came out into an extremely large hall. Almost the entire floor was the office. It was an open room without walls. It was intentionally designed to show its grandeur. Luxurious furnishings were scattered around the room, but a good portion of the office was empty.

On the far side of the elevator where he came out was an unusually large office desk. Behind the desk was a large recliner office chair. The back of the chair was facing him, but he could see someone sitting on that chair. The person sitting on the chair was gazing at the scenery outside the glass windows, which filled the entire wall behind the office desk.

When the person sitting on the office chair heard Wade's approaching footsteps, the chair swiveled back, revealing an old man in a formal suit.

"Father…," Wade greeted.
