Chapter 1 - The Beginning

"Uh, "My head!" That was the first sentence to come out of Axel Dexerous's mouth as he woke up, clutching his head. He was sweating heavily and struggling to breathe.

"Wh...where am I?" He muttered, as he finally gazed at his surroundings. The room was neat, white in colour, and had beds arranged in a horizontal line. The air smelled very fresh, and the faint scent of medicine was also noticeable.

One thing he knew was that he wasn't in his room, and he was certain of it.

Suddenly, he groaned in pain as he felt a blur of memories ram into his head like a truck. It was fast, but the pain was real as he groaned badly until the memories finished their painful business.

Once the memories were done, Axel rushed, thankfully, to a basin and began to vomit profusely. He couldn't breathe until he was done. He then wiped his mouth with water and was about to put it off when a voice froze him with one word.

"Disgusting."

That one word was packed with venom, pure hatred, and overwhelming disgust, and what made it worse, the voice sounded feminine.

With a heavy heart, Axel closed the tap and turned in the direction of the voice, and was met with a sight he wasn't going to forget anytime soon.

A young woman, her long silver hair flowing, her unblemished skin shining in the sunlight, her body curved to perfection, as if it had been blessed by the gods, her violet eyes staring at him like he was a Disgusting stain on the floor. But Axel knew she was one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen in his life.

The young woman sighed in frustration, rubbing her head as she continued. "Why does this happen to me? Always the one to check up on the useless waste that'll die soon."

"I'm sorry." Axel began softly. "But who are you?"

The woman's eyes snapped back to him with irritation. "Do not open that filthy mouth of yours while I'm still here."

Axel's eyes narrowed in anger at that statement. He may not know who she was but he knew he was staring at a rotten bitch right now.

"Since you're alive, I'll just say this." The woman stepped forward. "Kill yourself."

Axel stepped back. "What?"

"You heard me. If you nearly died by the hands of your newly awakened comrades, then there's no way you'll survive the Field of Elderith and be granted The Wish."

After she was done speaking, she turned her head and walked away, slamming the door behind her. Axel sat down on the bed, his mind in a daze.

"Field Of Elderith?" He whispered. "The Wish?"

He didn't know what they were, but he could tell they were of great importance. It could even be something that decided or defined his future here.

Then he remembered the memories.

They were flitting but he could remember a boy crying over letters, then his family sent him away here, then being beaten badly to the point of stupor. It was all inside his head.

"These memories are all about me," Axel whispered to himself, realising.

He was once a bright, young man who wanted to become one of the greatest warriors ever recorded. But his dream fell short when he was rejected by five clans who had gauged his talent and deemed it abysmal. His noble family had punished him by sending him to the weakest of the clan. The sixth one. The clan that took in failures and rejects. But even here, he was beaten to stupor by bullies and that was it.

Now it made no sense.

Wasn't he this guy? He lived on earth, in an anomaly's house, read webnovels, and played video games every day. Why should he be here?

Then it dawned on him and then he forgot to breathe. The tag he had always loved reading in webnovels. The tag that always got his attention. He had gotten it.

He had reincarnated as Axel Dexerous. From being Ethan to now being Axel.

"Dammit!" He cursed, his hand on his head. "Just as I was about to get laid."

He couldn't believe it was happening to him. He remembered everything. He was about to dive on his girlfriend when there was darkness, and now he was here.

He got up, walked over to a mirror, and stared at his reflection. He had black hair, golden eyes, and a small scar on his cheek. His jawline was smooth and he had a few strands of hair growing on his chin. At least he was good-looking, but being handsome wasn't going to help him in this type of world where strength determined your stance in the world.

"That woman said something about Awakening?" He muttered. "I should find out my ability or attribute, maybe even talent, depending on what they call it."

He took a deep breath and tried to feel something, or maybe even unlock something. But nothing happened. Nothing at all.

'I can't feel anything?' Axel thought. 'Did this body fail his Awakening?'

Axel knew that could be the only solution to why he couldn't feel anything. No wonder this body was beaten to the point of death; now his soul had inhabited every useless body, and he didn't know what to do. There was also no point in telling anyone about this. He was doomed.

He walked back to the bed and sat down thinking furiously. 'I will need to pass whatever that woman said and get the wish she was talking about. I would need to wish that I need to awaken.'

Axel had figured out his plan. 9n fhe other hand, he had to admit that he wasn't thrilled that he had transmigrated to this place. It was one thing to enjoy reading, and it was another thing to find yourself in a new world with no warning, no plan, and death very present, and it is a common occurrence.

Suddenly, the door opened and a mam walked in. He was muscled, well built, with long brown hair and a scar that ran diagonally across his left eye.

He stared at Axel like a man inspecting a dead fly that he had killed by accident, and even though he didn't mean to kill it, he also didn't care.

"Dexerous." The man called out. "My name is Hacquel and I would like for you to come out since you've recovered. We do have the best healing pods."

Axel swallowed saliva, not knowing what else to say.

"Anyway, "Hacquel continued. "Keala said that she barely threw up seeing your face, so she begged me to escort you to the meeting courtyard, where you'll be addressed soon. Please follow me."

Immediately, Hacquel turned and walked out of the room, and Axel had nothing else to think or say, so he followed him.
