There were also many varieties of beans in the shop. The most commonly seen were black beans and soybeans, which were usually the staple food for livestock and slaves. Nobles of any status disdained eating them, and they were considered by many to be low-grade food.
The yield of beans was slightly higher than that of wheat, and the price was the lowest among all staple foods. Perhaps due to their lowly status, they were simply kept in burlap sacks piled up in an inconspicuous, hidden corner.
Besides black beans and soybeans, there were also red beans and mung beans, but in much smaller quantities.
