Chapter 75 - Chapter 75: Tony — I’d Rather Be Poisoned to Death Than Ask the Captain for Help!

"Shocking! A well-known billionaire has an illegitimate son!"

"Breaking news! Real estate tycoon North was kidnapped by his illegitimate son, Faith!"

"Captain America and Iron Man team up to rescue the kidnapped heirs of the Morgan and Rockefeller families!"

"Sir, you don't look well. You should rest," Jarvis said.

Tony Stark, who was working on an experiment early in the morning with dark circles under his eyes, heard Jarvis' news report — and, as expected, his own name was mentioned again.

After raiding the vampire manor, he and Steve Rogers had gone on two more missions to rescue kidnapped heirs of major business families.

But one thing still bothered him — billions of dollars had mysteriously vanished, leaving no trace behind. Even his advanced tracking systems couldn't locate the money.

He wasn't the only one with artificial intelligence, but the A.I. he had created was far more advanced — capable of understanding, reasoning, and even chatting casually.

Jarvis was the perfect example.

"Jarvis, test the effect of vampire serum on the palladium poisoning," Tony ordered.

"Understood, sir."

Half an hour later, the test results came back.

"Unfortunately, sir, the vampire serum has no effect on the palladium poisoning."

The best raw material for the Arc Reactor was palladium — an element that couldn't be replaced. Any substitution would greatly reduce efficiency and might not even generate enough energy to power the Iron Man suit.

But Tony couldn't live without that suit anymore. Ever since his kidnapping, he'd felt a deep sense of insecurity.

Dr. Yinsen's death still haunted him, driving him to transform from a careless playboy into a hero determined to protect the world.

And besides — flying in the Iron Man suit brought a thrill that even his fastest sports car couldn't match.

"Sir, perhaps you should talk to Captain Rogers. He might have a solution," Jarvis suggested.

"Huh? You knew about this?" Tony frowned.

"I mentioned it to the Captain during his last visit, but he was too proud to listen."

Jarvis's blunt honesty hit like a critical blow.

That was like stabbing Tony right in the pride!

A man as arrogant as Tony Stark would never admit defeat — especially not when it came to his father, Howard Stark, the so-called "genius among geniuses." Deep down, Tony only wanted to surpass him.

"Contact the racing organizers in Morocco. I'm going for a ride."

"Yes, sir. But I must warn you — racing puts significant strain on your heart and could accelerate the palladium poisoning."

"Got it. Just make the reservation."

At that moment, Tony couldn't help but think of Pepper Potts. If Pepper were still with him, his life wouldn't be such a mess.

Unfortunately, Pepper was getting married.

Last time, Steve had jokingly said he'd marry Maria Hill, Sharon Carter, and Pepper Potts.

What a ruthless man! Wasn't he afraid of running out of "gold coins"?

Howard Stark had also been a notorious flirt before finally settling down — Tony supposed some habits really did run in the family.

Meanwhile, in Moscow…

Ivan Vanko — better known as Whiplash — found an intermediary and bought a plane ticket to Morocco.

He had once been arrested by the KGB for trafficking nuclear secrets, sentenced to prison, and forbidden to leave the country.

But he had found a way out.

And he had one goal: revenge.

He wanted to destroy Tony Stark and prove that the Arc Reactor wasn't exclusive to the Stark family. He would show the world that he was no less a genius than Tony.

And how did he know Tony was heading to Morocco? Easy. He hacked into the online database.

As a physicist, mastering electronic engineering wasn't that hard. (In the movie, even Jarvis couldn't hack his system remotely.)

Elsewhere, the S.H.I.E.L.D. staff had just left a lively party, most of them completely drunk.

Steve Rogers had hosted the celebration himself, treating everyone to dinner and even sending snacks to those who couldn't attend. His popularity was soaring rapidly.

But while S.H.I.E.L.D. slept off their hangovers, a different scene unfolded deep inside a Hydra base.

Crossbones and other undercover Hydra agents had already gathered — and most of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s key staff were among them.

Scientists, doctors, and even nurses looked at Steve with fanatical devotion.

Wearing a sleek black combat suit with the Hydra symbol emblazoned across his chest and a Barrett sniper rifle strapped to his back, Steve's very presence stirred their excitement.

"Long live Hydra!"

"Hail Hydra!"

Their chants echoed through the hall, faces flushed with fervor.

Standing off to the side, Alexander Pierce felt a storm of mixed emotions.

He had clawed his way to the top as Hydra's leader — only for Steve Rogers to arrive and steal the spotlight.

At first, Pierce had even engineered a financial crisis to weaken Steve's reputation, but the plan had backfired spectacularly.

Steve's unmatched combat skill and growing influence had made him the new symbol of Hydra's power. His charisma had turned followers into fanatics — ready to die for him without hesitation.

Pierce's last trump card had been the Winter Soldier — Bucky Barnes — but Bucky had vanished.

In his place, five new Winter Soldiers had joined, leaving Pierce completely overshadowed.

Damn it!

He'd never seen anyone so difficult to control.

Still, Pierce didn't show his anger. He'd survived the Cold War — he knew the value of patience.

"The time has come," Steve declared. "Our goal is to bring the world under our control — and now's our chance. Any enemy who stands in our way will be eliminated."

He raised his hand.

"I don't believe in the saying 'cut off one head and two grow back.' I believe in destroying the enemy completely. Now go — carry out your missions!"

"Yes! Long live the leader!"

"Long live the leader!"

Tonight's party had only been a cover. The real objective was to help Nissa seize control of her family's assets.

But in the process, they had met fierce resistance. Some business partners had been bribed by Danika and her allies; others had tried to break away and form their own empires.

Ridiculous! It was his money they were fighting over.

If they thought he'd settle for two million out of five, they were delusional.

He would take it all.

Just then, Steve's phone buzzed.

A text message — from Betty Ross.

He hadn't seen her in days. At first, he thought she was just feeling lonely and wanted some "physical comfort."

But when he opened the message, he realized it was about Bruce Banner.

Apparently, Banner had found a partner tonight — someone who claimed to have developed an antidote that could prevent him from transforming into the Hulk. The formula combined gamma radiation with a chemical agent — fighting poison with poison.

How coincidental.

That meant the Abomination was likely being created tonight as well.

And the Green Goblin had chosen this very night to go after Spider-Man.

New York City was destined to be restless tonight.
