Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: Captain, What Do You Think of My Daughter?

The atmosphere had turned warm and subtly romantic — the perfect time to deepen their connection.

Steve extended his hand politely. "May I have this dance? I'm not very good at it," he admitted with a soft smile.

"Hehehe! Of course, my captain."

Nissa covered her mouth and giggled gracefully, her movements gentle and refined. She placed her pale, delicate hand in his and followed him to the dance floor.

As their relationship deepened, they met again in a medieval-style villa on Long Island, New York.

The Vampire King had invited several heads of powerful consortia to a private meeting. However, instead of a glamorous party filled with bright lights and music, the room held only a long, cold conference table.

These men had moved beyond petty indulgences long ago. Women and pleasure no longer interested them — perhaps due to age, or simply because they no longer could.

Representatives from the Morgan family, the Rothschilds, the Rockefellers, and Citigroup were all present. Each controlled vast financial empires that influenced both the military and Congress.

They were also major financial backers of S.H.I.E.L.D. In fact, the last time Steve had handed Faith over to Nissa, it was at the persuasion of King North himself.

This ancient being — Old King North — was over two thousand years old. In that immense span of time, he had sired more than a thousand descendants.

Compared to him, Steve Rogers was merely an innocent young man.

The most talented of North's descendants were sent out to hold positions of power or to marry into other families, weaving a vast and complex web of influence.

Nissa was the youngest — and perhaps the most innocent — of them all.

"Recently, a new breed of vampire has appeared — the Harvesters," North said slowly, his tone grave. "They feed on both vampires and humans. Stronger, faster, more resilient — and immune to silver and garlic."

He paused to let the weight of his words sink in.

"If this threat isn't eradicated soon, it will disrupt your businesses. Once vampires are wiped out, humans will become their next prey. Those infected — vampire or human — will be turned into Harvesters."

He did not elaborate further, simply delivering the warning.

The men seated around him — ancient, calculating patriarchs — exchanged wary glances. They were all interrelated through generations of marriages, forming an intricate web of alliances and rivalries.

"Old King, just tell us what you want," said Trust Rockefeller impatiently. His expression was dark — his favorite grandson had recently gone missing, and the loss still burned.

North smiled faintly. "I want you to hunt down these new vampires and bring their leader back to me alive."

North looked as pale as marble, blue veins visible beneath his skin. He was unimaginably old yet carried an aura of power and control — the Vampire King who ruled a hidden empire of wealth and blood.

"Let S.H.I.E.L.D. handle that," one of the men said lazily. "I'm busy keeping an eye on Tony Stark and his Iron Man suits. But I can fund the operation."

"I can contribute money too," another added. "But I'm tied up with the mutant gene project right now."

"The underground scene in New York is unstable. The Kingpin and the Hand are stirring up trouble — I can't leave," said a third.

"I need to track the Super Soldier Serum replicas and the Hulk. No time to spare," another replied.

They all knew the game — by refusing now, they could demand more later. Each man had learned long ago that patience often paid more than loyalty.

North merely smiled. He had lived for millennia; this kind of posturing no longer fazed him.

"Haha, let's not discuss business anymore," he said lightly. "Let's enjoy ourselves. Bring in the dancers."

Late that night, after the guests had gone and the castle had grown quiet, Nissa led Steve through the ancient halls.

It was the first time she had ever invited a man into her home, and her heart raced.

As they entered, Steve discreetly tossed a small signal transmitter onto the roof. It activated quietly, drawing solar power. Artificial intelligence E.D.I.T.H. immediately began infiltrating the local network and using sonar scans to map the entire area.

Guards stood on either side of the corridors, their eyes following Steve as he passed. The look they gave him reminded him of predators sizing up their prey.

To vampires, humans were nothing more than walking meals.

The castle's exterior was ancient, but the interior gleamed with luxury and technology. Beneath the surface, the underground laboratory was filled with advanced military-grade equipment — far beyond what most governments could access.

In the central hall, elite vampire guards stood silently, clad in black tactical suits and night-vision goggles. Their faces were completely covered, showing no hint of skin.

They were not ordinary bodyguards — they were loyal, highly trained soldiers.

Nissa led Steve into the main chamber. At the far end sat an elderly vampire with a gleaming bald head, pale skin, and blue veins visible beneath the surface.

"Father, Steve is here," Nissa said softly.

"Hello, Captain America," the old vampire greeted with a polite smile. "I'm Big Musky North, Nissa's father. It's an honor to meet you."

His manners were flawless — formal, respectful, and surprisingly human. This, Steve thought, was how a true ruler carried himself.

"Hello, sir," Steve replied, nodding. He couldn't help but wonder how such a terrifying-looking man could have a daughter as graceful as Nissa. Perhaps she was adopted?

"Captain," North continued with a knowing smile, "forgive my forwardness, but what do you think of my daughter?"

He already knew, from his spies, that his daughter and Steve had grown close.

When a daughter grows up, she must eventually marry — and if that union could advance his power, all the better.

The Rockefeller patriarch had once suggested a marriage between his grandson and Nissa, which had led to the incident at the nightclub with Deka. Vampires, bound by the night, could only socialize after dark.

For North, using his daughter to achieve a grander goal was simply strategic. To a ruler like him, even family could be a tool.

"Father!" Nissa exclaimed softly, stamping her foot in embarrassment. Her cheeks flushed pink as she glanced shyly at Steve, awaiting his answer.

"She's… very beautiful," Steve said truthfully. "Strong, capable — the kind of woman any man would be lucky to have."

Nissa smiled, her natural charm lighting up the room.

"Then it's decided," North declared suddenly. "I will betroth her to you. Do you accept, Captain Rogers?"

The words hit Steve like a thunderbolt.

North's expression didn't waver — to him, sacrificing one daughter for power was nothing at all. After all, what was one pawn on a chessboard that spanned millennia?
