Tony Stark watched the news report without the slightest hint of concern. To him, those who died were gangsters — scum who contributed nothing to society while they were alive.
Nick Fury, however, was troubled. The Senate was accusing S.H.I.E.L.D., and the military was joining in. They demanded that Captain America be handed over and put on trial.
But apart from entrusting a blind lawyer to handle the legal issues, Steve Rogers had completely disappeared.
They claimed he was evading justice, but since the hearing hadn't been passed, no warrant could be issued.
This disappearance left the Rockefeller family completely helpless. Other than spreading rumors and filing endless lawsuits — success or failure didn't matter — their only goal was to disgust their opponent.
"You think this is funny?" Fury's forehead veins bulged. These people were driving him insane.
"Of course it's funny," Tony replied casually. "What could be more entertaining than watching a hypocritical idiot get mad?"
Despite everything, Tony never doubted Steve. He was his friend — his comrade-in-arms.
Just as Fury was about to respond, his phone rang.
"What is it? … Really? I see. Okay, that's it."
When he hung up, Fury's expression turned grim. Blade had finally been found after going missing for a long time — barely alive.
According to the medical report, he'd lost so much blood that anyone else would've died. Only his unique hybrid physiology had kept him alive.
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters
After finishing her mission report, Sharon Carter stood up and stretched. Her slender figure, paired with flowing blonde bangs, gave her an air of mature elegance.
She walked to the window with a cup of coffee. Her long legs, accentuated by black one-strap high heels, looked even more graceful under the sunlight.
"Hey, what? … I get it."
After ending the call, Sharon's frown finally eased.
Rumors about Captain America had intensified — from war hero to mentally unstable war criminal.
They said he had brutally murdered nearly fifty people, vanished without a trace, and was involved in contraband smuggling. Even the identities of three women once close to Steve had been exposed.
The Rockefeller family even leaked Maria Hill's position, publicly outing an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
This was no longer just provocation — it was a death sentence.
The World Security Council, which oversaw S.H.I.E.L.D., began debating whether to dismiss Steve, Hill, and Sharon altogether.
Funding for the entire organization was now in jeopardy. Without money, the department could collapse.
But recently, all those political threats had been shelved — not because the corporate giants grew kind-hearted, but because they were in trouble themselves.
Blade's earlier disappearance had been caused by the vampire Deacon Frost, who used Blade's mother to lure him into a trap.
When Blade discovered that his mother — missing for over twenty years — had been turned into Frost's personal toy, he completely broke down.
Captured and caged, his blood was drained for a dark ritual.
Frost used twelve pure-blood vampire elders as sacrifices — and combined with Blade's hybrid blood — completed a forbidden ceremony that massively enhanced his power.
After that, Frost began raising an army, threatening the established vampire kingdoms and blackmailing the world's major conglomerates: surrender or die.
The arrogant magnates initially dismissed him.
Until three days ago, when the Buffy family — a branch of the Rockefeller empire — was massacred overnight.
Thirty people, old and young alike, slaughtered without mercy.
The incident shocked the global elite. Suddenly, they realized this wasn't about money — it was about survival.
They still hadn't dropped the charges against Captain America, but now they needed S.H.I.E.L.D.'s help.
Ordinary special forces couldn't kill vampires. Worse, many soldiers sent against them had turned into vampires themselves.
Desperate, the corporations had no choice but to turn to S.H.I.E.L.D. — the only organization capable of handling supernatural threats.
But S.H.I.E.L.D. wouldn't move unless the charges against Captain America were withdrawn and a public apology issued.
In addition, the conglomerates were to pay $1 billion in damages and donate another $3 billion to S.H.I.E.L.D. as "operational support."
Was this taking advantage of the situation?
Absolutely — and Steve didn't care.
Freshly returned from Siberia, he hadn't expected things to escalate so quickly. He had brought back five enhanced soldiers to deal with the Rockefellers — but now, thanks to Frost's rampage, his enemies were already backing down.
Did he need to thank the vampire villain for that?
After receiving Sharon's message, Steve rubbed his chin with a faint smirk.
"Joseph, take these three with you and grab Deka," he ordered. "Keep it quiet — no one can see you."
"Yes, boss," Joseph replied coldly.
Two Days Later
At S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, Steve Rogers sat in the conference room with Tony Stark and Blade.
Nick Fury chaired the meeting, assisted by Phil Coulson and Maria Hill.
This operation was focused on taking down Deacon Frost.
Just two days earlier, multiple media outlets had revealed that several reports about Captain America had been fabricated. The supposed "war criminal" narrative was a smear campaign.
Meanwhile, several senators who filed false bribery charges against Steve had been dismissed and charged with defamation.
On the surface, justice had been served — but the real power players remained untouched. For every fall guy punished, a dozen more waited in line, ready to take their place.
Steve knew it well. That's why he agreed to participate — he wanted to turn this chaos to his advantage.
If they were going to apologize, he would make sure they did it properly.
Meanwhile, Wakeman — who had been kidnapped earlier — was still missing. Now, Steve had conveniently shifted the blame for Deka's abduction onto him.
According to the story, Wakeman wanted revenge after being fired and betrayed by the Rockefellers, whom he'd served loyally for years.
A perfect narrative.
Wakeman took the fall. Steve took the money.
And then, by eliminating Wakeman, they could paint him as a ruthless criminal leader — strengthening Steve's public image even further.
A flawless victory — success, profit, and reputation all at once.
As for what Wakeman or Deka thought about it?
Well, human joys and sorrows are never truly connected.
