"Don't tell me you used it to stamp those papers?"
Intense fear filled his eyes as they stayed locked onto mine. And for the very first time in a while, I felt totally in control.
"They say it is better to be safe than sorry. I knew this duel may never hold so I had a backup plan," I went on to say while relishing in his stunned facial expression.
"Deborah, no…" he pleaded and I frowned in surprise.
Was he begging me?
He had a defeated look for the very first time and it baffled me, making me begin to wonder if I had made the right decision or not.
"What?" I asked.
"You just placed yourself in a difficult position by doing that." He said in serious concern.
"I am well aware, Lauren, I am ready for anything," I said in an uncaring manner before breaking eye contact with him.
"You will get killed," I heard him roughly say.
"Why is that any of your concern?" I asked.
