His tone was calm, unhurried, as though he had simply woken from a pleasant nap.
His eyes remained closed, his body still relaxed, as if he had no intention of even sitting up.
"I understand that you came here with only Tang Aining's well-being in mind," he continued lazily. "There's no need for me to punish you for caring about your fellow disciple."
A brief pause followed, the room growing even quieter.
"You're free to go now," he said simply. "You may continue trying to persuade Tang Aining to return to your sect if you wish. As I've said before, she is free to leave at any time. She is not my slave, nor would I want her to be."
The faintest hint of a smile appeared on his lips.
"For now, she's simply my bedwarmer. As for tomorrow…"
He let out a soft breath.
"We'll see how things go."
Silence followed.
