There were many rumors about the Red Gyarados in the Lake of Rage.
Some said Team Rocket experiments forced it to evolve.
Others claimed it evolved out of anger after humans hunted helpless Magikarp in large numbers.
Some even believed the red color of its body came from rage itself.
Red Gyarados were known as kings among Gyarados.
Whenever one appeared, destruction usually followed.
They would destroy everything in sight until their anger was exhausted.
But the Red Gyarados in front of Raj was different.
What kind of bond allowed it to suppress that rage and protect him?
It was almost unbelievable.
[Ding. Red Gyarados obtained.

"Hmm? What? Obtained Red Gyarados?" Raj said in surprise.
He had expected the storm attack to hit him already.
Instead he turned and saw a massive red body coiled protectively around him.
Tentacruel stood beside him with its tentacles raised, maintaining Light Screen.
Gyarados lowered its head and gently rubbed against Raj.
Its fierce eyes were now calm.
Tentacruel's tentacles also touched Raj's hand gently.
"A Gyarados? And it's red?"
Raj stared in disbelief.
In the anime from his previous life, the Red Gyarados belonged to Lance of the Elite Four and had only been captured after a difficult battle involving Dragonite.
But his Magikarp had evolved on its own.
"Mandibuzz, use Dark Pulse. Fearow, use Air Slash," the cloaked man shouted as he jumped down from the sky and attacked immediately.
He clearly wanted to end the battle before Raj's newly evolved Pokémon fully stabilized.
"Tentacruel, Light Screen again, then use Bubble Beam. Gyarados, use Dragon Rage," Raj commanded weakly.
Damn. If this continues I'll collapse first. I have to end this quickly.
"Tentacruel, Gyarados, use Hyper Beam together," Raj shouted.
"Not good," the man reacted immediately and jumped back onto Mandibuzz to escape.
"It's not that easy to run," Raj said coldly. "Full power."
Two massive Hyper Beams fired simultaneously.
The beams struck the fleeing enemy directly.
He did not even have time to scream before being swallowed by the explosion.
Raj finally laughed in relief.
"Well done, Gyarados. Tentacruel."
He reached out and patted them gently.
However new questions quickly appeared in his mind.
Magikarp Uncle clearly wasn't ordinary.
And these attackers definitely had deeper secrets.
Why were they targeting him?
If only Haunter had been able to hypnotize one of them earlier.
Raj leaned weakly against Gyarados.
He recalled Haunter and Tentacruel into their Poké Balls, then signaled Gyarados to carry him away.
After that battle his stamina was completely gone.
The fact that he was still conscious at all was already a miracle.
Gyarados carried Raj along the river and swam downstream.
Not long after, a figure suddenly appeared deep within the forest.
After checking the surroundings, he activated a communication device.
"You contacted me first. What is it?" an impatient male voice replied from the device.
"All four operatives we sent were eliminated by him. However they completed their task before dying. They activated the Magikarp device. The Magikarp is now in his possession and has evolved into a Red Gyarados."
The speaker's voice sounded mechanical and emotionless.
It was identical to the System voice that had always accompanied Raj.
"Oh? Interesting. That boy is more capable than expected," the man on the other end replied with a laugh.
"What should we do next?"
"No need to rush. He is Kenji's son after all. Acting too aggressively will raise suspicion. Let him continue traveling with Ash for now. Help Ash grow stronger. Notify everyone in the organization to keep watching him. After this battle he has already become famous."
"Ash will solve many problems for us. If necessary he can also be used to restrain that boy."
"Understood."
A gust of wind lifted the speaker's cloak.
Underneath it was a rainbow-colored R symbol.
If Raj had seen this, he would have been shocked.
Because this person was none other than the Magikarp salesman who had sold him the mutated Magikarp.
"Hiss. That hurts," Raj muttered as he slowly opened his eyes.
Bright sunlight forced him to raise his arm to block it.
Pain spread across his entire body.
It felt like his body had been torn apart.
"You're awake?" a clear voice said.
Raj looked toward the doorway and saw Officer Jenny standing there smiling.
"Officer Jenny?"
Raj immediately felt slightly nervous.
His identity was sensitive.
Meeting her like this was not ideal.
"That's right. You were lucky to escape from Team Rocket. Your Pokémon saved you."
While tracking reports about Team Rocket activity near Saffron City, Officer Jenny had passed by the nearby river and saw a Gyarados appear from the water.
When she noticed Raj unconscious on its back, she immediately realized something serious had happened.
His wounds had already turned pale from soaking in water for too long.
She quickly brought him to the Pokémon Center for treatment.
Later, guided by Gyarados, she discovered the unconscious Team Rocket operatives nearby.
"You're truly impressive," Officer Jenny continued. "Defeating Team Rocket members by yourself is remarkable. We misunderstood you earlier and suspected you were connected to them. I apologize."
"Professor Oak has already heard about what you did and is on his way to see you. You should know him well. That Pokédex you carry originally came from him through your father."
Raj chuckled awkwardly.
Please stop praising me like this. I'm actually part of Team Rocket myself.
And honestly, I barely even need the Pokédex with the System helping me already.
