When the bus finally rumbled to a halt at a roadside rest stop, nobody immediately rushed for the food.
Instead, a collective groan echoed through the vehicle as everyone spilled out into the brisk morning air. After hours of being trapped in the same rigid positions, everyone's legs were half-numb, pins and needles pricking at their calves.
The crowd immediately began pacing around the asphalt, stretching their arms and groaning like a horde of waking zombies.
Rai was just about to follow the herd and walk off the stiffness in his joints, but before he could take two steps, a firm grip caught his sweater.
Zade pulled him back, seamlessly shifting his hold to drag Rai directly toward the warmth of the restaurant.
