Chapter 24 - Battle Atop the Hill (5)

Gae Dearg was known as the "red spear," its ability was to pierce through any defense or protection.

It could ignore barriers, and would pierce through everything until it could reach flesh or bone.

By speaking its name, the boundary between fantasy and reality blurred, and that myth gained tangibility.

The silver spirits borrowed that name, acquiring a reddish tone, the same color as the spear.

They began to gather at the tip of Alioth's finger, forming a sphere of scarlet light aimed at Eirian.

The latter, seeing this, became alert, placing his hand in his pocket, but he didn't take the pill—instead, a talisman.

"[Drastiriopoió]," the nervous boy pronounced, as a warm sensation washed over him.

Suddenly, a golden and silver light emerged from his pocket, wrapping around his body as it crystallized into a fine mosaic, like armor.

Once it happened, Eirian felt more relaxed, he felt safe now.

"Surrender now, there's no way you'll pierce my defense with simple spirit magic," Eirian warned as he pointed his bow at Alioth.

The white-haired boy could get an idea of why he said that.

That mosaic was a miracle, a construct of crystallized keter.

Miracles were an art taught exclusively to members of the holy ministry, however, it was possible to buy a talisman capable of activating miracles.

As if it were a portable miracle.

The reason Eirian felt so confident about his defense was that miracles were the perfect counter to spirit magic.

Spirit magic was already inferior to heka, but miracles could easily negate any spiritual art.

There would have to be a huge power difference for spirit magic to overcome a miracle.

However, Alioth wasn't worried either.

"How many times do I have to repeat it, mine isn't spirit magic," Alioth replied, as a red beam of light shot from his fingers.

The beam of light pierced through Eirian's shoulder with ease, going through the keter mosaic without resistance, hitting right in the shoulder, disabling his ability to move his left arm.

"Aaargg," the boy groaned, clutching the shoulder where the wound was. "How?"

Alioth didn't answer, he simply aimed his finger at Eirian again.

"Gae—"

Before he could respond, Eirian acted, quickly firing several fire projectiles with his bow.

Alioth barely had time to react and jump backward, getting pushed back by the fire explosions.

'How did he manage to shoot with his shoulder in that state?'

The white-haired boy wondered internally as he regained his composure.

The heat from the flames was dangerous, it was better to get away.

"A wound like this won't stop me," Eirian affirmed as he kept firing.

He had healed himself, apparently that talisman not only allowed him to block attacks but also heal wounds.

"Svalin," Alioth said without hesitation, forming a wind shield around him that protected him from the arrows.

Again, fire explosions were generated.

However, this time the flames didn't touch Alioth.

"Mmm, interesting," the boy commented, while the shield was active, Alioth couldn't recall what Svalin's story was.

Why would that be?

Perhaps because the shield was still active?

"Radiance that pierces the heavens!" Erian proclaimed at that moment, firing a shot of fire from his bow.

The shield was pierced by the attack, Alioth barely had time to dodge it, and it ended up grazing his shoulder.

While Svalin was an air shield specialized in blocking fire and light attacks.

Erian's Devastra was conceptually related to burning atmospheres, and had an elemental advantage.

Unlike the rain of fire arrows, this time the attack had been concentrated on a specific point, increasing its efficiency and ability to pierce defenses.

'This is annoying, I need to try to finish this once and for all.'

"Gae Buidhe," the boy said, pointing at Eirian with his fingers as if his hand were a gun.

The spirits turned golden, gathering at the tip of the boy's fingers and shooting toward Eirian.

Gae Buidhe was known as the "yellow spear," any wound made with that weapon could not be healed.

However, this time, the beam of light hit the crystallized keter mosaic and dispersed without leaving a scratch.

Alioth clicked his tongue as he jumped to the side to dodge another fire arrow.

"Tch, this isn't being easy," the young man murmured as he started running.

If he pierced his defense, Erian would heal, but if he shot him with an attack from which he couldn't heal, the crystallized keter armor would block the attack.

"Igneous radiance!" Erian exclaimed, as he fired a heat ray at Alioth.

The boy didn't have time to react, and protected himself with his forearms.

However, before the impact occurred, a mass of water interposed itself between him and the ray of water, absorbing the heat.

"Pyuuun!" Abzu affirmed, who had adopted a reddish color due to the absorbed heat.

Alioth sighed in relief. Finally his companion had returned, now it would be easier to deal with Eirian.

"Alright, buy me some time, my friend," Alioth asked, now calmer, as Abzu obeyed by creating a dome of water using his own body.

Abzu's body was enough to block Eirian's attacks, meanwhile, Alioth was organizing his own attack.

The boy raised his index finger.

"Gae Buidhe," he said, the spirits around him that glowed silver acquired a golden color and began to pile on top of his finger, forming a golden mass.

The boy raised the index finger of his other hand.

"Gae Dearg," the boy pronounced, as he did, a mass of red light began to form on top of his finger.

The boy nodded as he brought both spheres close to each other. As he did, naturally they began to merge with each other, as if mixing two paints.

"Buidhearg!" the boy exclaimed.

As he did, the orange sphere deformed, taking the shape of a drill that accelerated and shot toward Eirian.

Abzu opened a hole in the dome, letting the attack through.

The only thing Erian could see at that moment was a fierce drill of intense orange color spinning dangerously toward him.
