Chapter 84 - Chapter 84: Concealing the Merit, Glazed Phoenix Feather

After clearing up the matter with Fang Gu, Mu Nianbing led Mo Fan and the others out of the Evil Abyss.

At that moment, the million-strong undead army had already received the Ancient King's command and retreated like a receding tide.

The city erupted with cheers—the complete withdrawal of the undead meant the disaster was finally over.

However, one person couldn't share in that joy—Ling Xi, also known as Salan.

Her anointing ceremony had been utterly ruined by a single young man.

Amid the city's jubilant cheers, Salan's expression was ice-cold as she quietly disappeared into the night.

By the time Mu Nianbing and his group reached the foot of the city wall, Zhang Xiaohou couldn't hold back his curiosity any longer.

"Brother Bing, what does the Ancient King actually look like?"

All three of them had been completely paralyzed under the Ancient King's overwhelming pressure. Only Mu Nianbing had truly seen and spoken to him.

Mo Fan and Su Xiaoluo also turned their curious gazes toward Mu Nianbing.

That was an Emperor who commanded a million undead!

Even a Monarch was already a figure they could only look up to—an Emperor was far beyond their reach.

"I don't really remember what he looks like," Mu Nianbing said seriously, "but he's definitely not as handsome as me."

The three of them rolled their eyes in unison.

"By the way," Mo Fan asked, "how did you convince the Ancient King to withdraw his army?"

Mu Nianbing had already prepared an explanation. He said calmly, "When I arrived, the Ancient King was still in a deep slumber.

The undead were not acting under his orders—they were influenced by a special force. None of this was his intention.

After a few words with him, he decided to call them back."

It was a half-truth. The undead were indeed being influenced—but their true purpose had been to gather enough death energy to revive the Ancient King.

Normally, even removing that influence wouldn't stop them.

But since Mu Nianbing had already revived the Ancient King himself through the Death God's Blessing, there was no longer any need for them to continue collecting death energy.

"Just like that?" Mo Fan asked skeptically. Was the Ancient King really that easy to talk to?

It sounded a bit far-fetched, but he couldn't think of any other explanation. After all, only Mu Nianbing had actually seen the Ancient King.

When the crisis was finally over, Mu Nianbing was summoned by Han Ji to the Magic Association in the Bell Tower.

At the top floor, several high-ranking Mages were gathered—many unfamiliar faces among them.

Mu Nianbing took a quick glance around but didn't see Sa Lang. It seemed she had already escaped.

"We owe our survival to Little Brother Mu this time," Han Ji said warmly, his eyes filled with respect.

"Our Ancient Capital will forever remember your kindness."

This disaster had struck without warning.

If not for Mu Nianbing's insistence on evacuating the populace early, the Ancient Capital would have been reduced to a graveyard.

Even with the evacuation, some lives were lost while drawing the undead away—but the casualties remained within a bearable range.

Against such a terrifying calamity, fewer than ten thousand lives lost was a miracle—an outcome that would be remembered for generations.

And much of that success was thanks to Mu Nianbing.

"Elder Han, you flatter me," Mu Nianbing replied humbly. "This was the result of everyone's efforts."

The surrounding masters exchanged approving looks.

So young, so talented—and still humble. Perhaps he truly had the potential to become a Forbidden Curse Mage one day.

Han Ji smiled and patted Mu Nianbing's shoulder.

"Once things in the city settle down, I'll make sure your contributions are officially recognized. Then your Mu Family won't have to bear the shadow of Mu He's crimes any longer."

Since Mu He's identity as the Tiger Jin High Priest of the Black Vatican was already public, concealing it was impossible.

But compared to Mu Nianbing's heroic deeds, that stain was nothing.

Once his accomplishments were announced, public opinion would surely turn in the Mu Family's favor.

Though some negativity would remain, it would barely matter.

However, Mu Nianbing shook his head. "Elder Han, please keep my contributions confidential for now."

Han Ji frowned in surprise.

If his deeds were revealed, not only would the Mu Family's standing rise again, but the Mu Clan might even demand Mu Nianbing return to their fold.

But Mu Nianbing had no interest in rejoining the Mu Clan. He planned to surpass and replace them—to build a new Mu Clan entirely his own.

To do that, he had to cut ties completely.

Han Ji thought for a moment, clearly unable to understand Mu Nianbing's reasoning. Still, he didn't pry.

"Are you certain?" he asked gravely.

"I'm sure," Mu Nianbing said with firm resolve.

"Alright," Han Ji nodded. "I'll do my best to keep it quiet. And if you ever decide otherwise, I'll personally make sure your achievements are recognized."

"Thank you, Elder Han."

Mu Nianbing had prepared a dozen explanations in advance but hadn't expected Han Ji to be this considerate—it saved him quite a bit of effort.

"It's nothing," Han Ji waved off with a smile.

"Besides, is there anything else you want? Given your contributions, even resources for Super-level advancement wouldn't be too much to ask."

Mu Nianbing thought for a while. He wasn't short on resources, and asking for something too valuable would feel greedy.

"I saw a Glazed Phoenix Feather in the Ancient Capital Museum," Mu Nianbing said finally. "If possible, I'd like to have it."

"Glazed Phoenix Feather?" Han Ji frowned slightly—not because Mu Nianbing was asking too much, but because he was asking for far too little.

Such an item had minimal practical value.

"Are you sure that's all? Nothing else?"

Mu Nianbing smiled faintly. "I'm still short on a few Ice Element Lingzhong Shards. If it's convenient, I'd like to have those too."

He remembered that Little Snow Girl still needed them—it would make a good reward for her loyal companionship.
