Chapter 2 - Don't look Outside

I felt my dad pull me back away from the window after the sight from outside. "Don't look outside. My phone still seems to be working so I'll use it to find some candles." Dad says as he wanders off.

That woman was getting torn apart by something that I couldn't even see outside. What is happening?

There's so much that I don't understand right now, why would... No why did this happen? The sun just disappeared and now people are screaming out in the streets.

I'm not even allowed to look outside anymore. That woman... She didn't deserve to experience that in the slightest. What the hell.

"Mom what's going on?" Mya asks with fear in her voice, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"I don't know sweetheart. We'll be okay though, your father is going to protect us." Mom assures her.

After a few moments Dad comes back with some candles and begins to light them in front of us. "I don't know what's happening but we aren't going to sit around in darkness." He says with a serious tone.

"What's happening out there?" Mom asks while looking towards dad.

"Honestly... I don't know. But we are better off staying inside for the time being until we know what's going on." He answers while keeping a calm tone of voice.

I'd say some sort of monster just tore apart that woman and the image of her body is still there. It isn't going away, like a stain on a plate that refuses to disappear.

She was screaming for help and I couldn't bring myself to look away as that thing tore into her flesh. What's worse... I couldn't even see the damn thing to understand what was doing it to her in the first place.

These things are not normal.

"Liam. Liam." Dad calls out.

"Huh? What's going on?" I question while shifting my focus back to him.

"I'm going to make sure all the doors are locked so stay here with your mom and sister. I don't want whatever is out there to get in." Dad answers with a serious look in his eyes.

"Yeah... Of course." I say while taking a seat with them.

I could tell my sister was trembling as she held onto my mother but I couldn't be scared too. My dad was putting on a brave face so I need to as well.

He was making sure everything is locked which is a great idea with what's happening right now but I don't know what we'll be able to do.

It doesn't seem like all power is lost yet right? I quickly get up and run over to the TV to turn it on before power does disappear. Click. Click.

It finally turns on with a few clicks of the remote. "At this moment we don't have any idea what's going on. The government is advising that everyone should remain indoors until further notice. The sun has disappeared and we don't know why." The reporter says as he tries to hide his panic.

"F*ck this! I don't want to stay here. I'm leaving!" A woman shouts from the TV.

"Marie you can't just leave! We don't know what's out th—" it cuts off.

"This Broadcast has been temporarily interrupted. Please check back later." A robotic voice says before the channel takes on a blue static screen.

So the government wants everyone to just sit inside as if that's going to solve anything? Not that I want to go out there when there's some sort of monster lurking out there.

Just... Why couldn't they just send the military to gather people?

"Help me!!! Please!! Someone!!!!" The woman's voice echoes in my head once more.

She really could've used some help but I don't think we would've been able to do anything in time... I... I couldn't have helped. Dad definitely wouldn't be able to do anything for her either.

"Everything I secure for the time being. We have food and drinks so I don't think we should be too concerned right now." Dad says calmly.

"The government just wants us to stay inside." I speak up, a bit of fear leaving my voice.

"Liam it'll be alright. They are probably figuring this whole thing out already." Dad responds with a reassuring tone.

"Right..." I say quietly.

I couldn't help but run to my room after that, I needed a safe space. A place that could give me a chance to breathe and to try to understand that it is all real.

Don't look outside. Don't look outside. That's the main thing dad told me to avoid doing so I'm supposed to listen to that. Not like you can really see much out there.

I take a seat on the edge of my bed and look down at the floor. "It feels empty." I say softly.

Why do I feel like this room is so empty now? I've never once cared in all the years that I've been alive but now... Now I care. My friends are probably panicking just as much as I am about this whole thing.

I shouldn't panic so much when Dad is holding it together. He needs me to be brave and strong like him.

Ding! Ding! The sound of my phone going off immediately takes me out of the panicked state I was in. I pulled it out of my pocket and noticed it was a message from Claire.

[Claire] Honestly don't know what's happening but I hope you guys are okay.

[Rokuro] It's probably some sort of government experiment. :p

I don't really know what to say right now if I'm being honest.

[Liam] I don't think it's an experiment. Someone died in my street...

[Claire] Holy shit!! That's awful... Did you see what did it?

[Liam] It wasn't human, that's all I know.

[Connection Error]

Can't say I'm surprised that the phone connection died. Everything is going to fall off sooner or later with what happened...

I don't know what to expect now.
