Chapter 2 - LEARNING ABOUT THE SYSTEM

"What is this 'syndicate system'!! and what do you mean by punishment by death. I had read in fantasy web-novel about mercenary guild, adventurer guild, merchant guild but I have never known any kind of syndicate guild system" Henry said aloud.

[Because I am the only syndicate system in the universe]

"What do you mean by 'only syndicate system in the universe'? are there other systems in the universe?" Henry asked

[Authorization denied….]

[You should only know that you are one of the lucky few in the universe]

"What do you mean by 'authorization denied'? At least I have right to know what kind of system you are when you are threatening to punish me by death?"

[You will get to know more answers when you unlock more features and your priority should be to establish syndicate guild to avoid death]

"At least tell me what 'syndicate guild' is?" Henry asked

[in syndicate guild people post missions and warriors or fighters working under you will complete the job within stipulated timeframe.]

"Is not is same as adventurer guild?" henry asked

[no, in adventurer guild warriors do not work for you and they take missions on their whims and fancies but in syndicate guild jobs are assigned based on their power rank and you will pay them monthly salary based on their ability to finish jobs and their power ranks and they are only loyal to you after contract signed and not some adventurer guild where anyone stabs from behind.

Here you also have right to sell products you got from the mission like potions, alchemical product, beast parts etc. Most importantly in syndicate, attack on one member equals to attacking all the members of the syndicate. And members of the syndicate will have accommodations along with the family inside the syndicate territory. If you able to raise the rank of the syndicate the your own academy for young talent will be established.]

"It's look like you are trying to build not a guild but a fortified territory?"

[syndicates will have territory in different cities of the world and to complete difficult mission, so you must have strength.]

"Can you tell me how the power system in this world works?" Henry asked

[If I am going to tell you everything then what you will do, only sleeping. learn yourself]

WOW!!! What is cheeky system you are!! No reply! It's OK, I already have plan to go to some nearby tavern to understand how the political system in this world works.

As sun clashes into the horizon, signaling the end of the day, Henry strides forward along the road towards marketplace to find if there is any tavern nearby, yet the city remained alive with activity and noise.

Henry saw a tavern near the crossroad of the market and the liquor house stood at the bend of the street with quiet dignity, neither grand nor apologetic, as if it had learned long ago the art of enduring without spectacle.

Henry came close to the tavern and saw Above the door, a signboard hung with gentle confidence, its hand-painted letters slightly weathered yet deliberate, glowing faintly beneath a pair of lanterns. Their light spilled outward in measured halos, The doorway itself was framed in dark, polished wood, worn smooth by years of touch, giving it the welcoming familiarity of a trusted threshold. Evening breeze lingered there, carrying the subtle perfume of wood, lantern oil, and distant music. Henry went inside and interior of the tavern unfolded like a warm, living tapestry of sound, scent, and shadow, an intimate refuge carved from wood, firelight, and shared weariness. Thick oak beams arched overhead, smoke-darkened and age-polished.

Music threaded through the din—low, lilting strings and rhythmic drums—not demanding attention but binding the room together, smoothing sharp edges and easing guarded hearts. Conversations bloomed in every corner: conspiratorial murmurs, war stories polished by repetition, whispered bargains heavy with implication.

Cloaks steamed dry, armor rested easy, and vigilance softened without fully sleeping. It was a place where blades stayed sheathed but within reach; where smiles could be genuine and grudges temporarily suspended. The atmosphere pulsed with earned camaraderie.

Henry slowly observing the whole place and tried to gauge the reactions and then he saw a battle-hardened veteran shaped by iron years, his massive frame half-lost in shadow sat at the quite corner. The bench beneath him creaked under the familiar weight of scarred muscle and disciplined stillness, a body trained for violence now held in reluctant rest. His armour lay partially loosened—dented, dulled, and honest—each battered plate a mute witness to sieges, skirmishes, and blood-soaked dawns.

Firelight caught his face in fragments. Deep lines ran across it—weather-carved furrows etched by exhaustion, loss, and unspoken endurance. Old scars crossed his cheek and temple in pale, uneven seams, interrupting skin darkened by sun and smoke. His beard was streaked with grey, unkempt yet dignified, framing a mouth more accustomed to orders than conversation. His eyes, however, told the fuller story. They were heavy, distant, and burdened with memory, fixed not on the bar but on something far beyond it.

The noise of the tavern pressed in—clinking cups, murmured deals, careless joy—yet around him lingered a quiet gravity, an invisible boundary earned through survival. Others sensed it instinctively. Seats nearby remained empty. Henry saw a perfect person to understand this place and it's power system. Henry slowly came close to the person and sat nearby table but don't say any single word.

"What do you want boy? You keep staring at me like you want to asked me something" the man asked

Henry almost startled but kept indifferent expression outward and very much impressed by the man's shrewd perception.

"Why do you think I want to ask something?" henry asked. The man chuckled softly and turned towards Henry and looked in the eye and said "you are new in this town?"

Man, I have to show my A game, this old warrior seemed to read me like an open book, otherwise I can get into trouble.

"Yes, I am new in this town, frankly speaking I don't know anything about this nightfallcity and I hope to know about the political system"

"Now, tell me boy, why me?" asked the man.

"Those old scars on your cheekbones tells stories, who can be better to tell than a man who saw cruelty from very close?" henry asked.

"Very well, you look intelligent and smart. What is your name boy? I don't seem to remember your face because I do not forget the faces."

"My name is HENRY and I am not from this nightfall region. That's why I want to know about this region in details" Henry said.

"Trying to be mysterious!! Don't want to say where are you from!! it's ok. I have no problem, I don't want to interfere in your personal life but remember, this is a very dangerous world, one mistake and you will not know when you have already died" the man said looking straight in to my eyes.

'I'm not trying to be mysterious rather cautious because I don't want to be dead on the first day of my life in this world. OK!!' Henry thought. Outwardly Henry does not show any nervousness but inside he is little tense.

"My name is RonaldGarrison, you can call me Ronald. Nightfall region falls on the western side of the Noctrya kingdom. Nightfall region is a desolate place, Noctrya kingdoms does not have a full control over this region because of the frequent invasion of magical beast from the nightfall mountain region. This area ruled by small Baron house but he is not that powerful, true hidden power hold by small merchant houses and mercenary Guilds and few branches of capital's noble houses. And be careful from these greedy bastards because they don't give a fuck about common people, only care about money." Ronald stated seriously.

"so, basically you are telling me that I have to be careful with these greedy bastards" Henry said.

"And I forgot to tell you that nightfall region also a coastal region and If you go along with the river (which originated from the nightfall mountain) for 10 km, you will find estuary of this river but be careful if you go there, you will certainly be raided by pirates because almost every boat is raided passes through of that region."

'Now I have to worry about pirates also along with greedy nobles' Henry thought. Henry sincerely thanked Ronald and left the tavern and came back to the wooden house where he woke up in this new world.
