Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

1960

Wool's Orphanage, London

Rain battered the old brick building as thunder rolled across the night sky.

Inside Wool's Orphanage, the air smelled of antiseptic and damp wool blankets. A woman lay on the narrow bed, her face pale, her breath uneven. In her arms was a newborn boy, crying loudly as if protesting the cruel timing of his arrival into the world.

The matron stood beside the bed, her hands trembling.

"Please… stay awake," the matron urged softly. "Just a little longer."

The woman smiled weakly.

"I don't have much time," she whispered.

She looked down at the child, tears pooling at the corners of her eyes.

"My son… his name is Victor."

Her lips trembled as she spoke again, forcing the words out with what little strength she had left.

"Victor… D. Armstrong."

The matron leaned closer, listening carefully.

"In my suitcase," the woman continued, her voice barely audible, "there is six hundred thousand pounds in cash. It goes to the orphanage."

The matron froze.

"Six… six hundred thousand?"

The woman nodded faintly.

"It's not stolen. It's not earned through evil. It's my money."

Her fingers tightened weakly around the matron's wrist.

"I have only one condition," she said urgently. "Take care of my son… more than the others. Please."

"I promise," the matron said immediately, tears falling freely. "I swear it."

The woman exhaled slowly.

Relief crossed her face.

And then… her grip loosened.

The storm outside fell silent.

The woman was gone.

The newborn, Victor D. Armstrong, blinked up at the world, confused and unaware of the weight of what had just transpired.

Suddenly, a voice echoed in his mind.

Congratulations. You have 99% of your previous life memories even after your rebirth. This One-Time Reward System will grant you a reward in exchange for your memories.

Rikugan has been integrated, dormant for 11–18 years.

The system spoke one final time.

One-Time Reward System wishes you good luck at the beginning of your new life.

Victor's mind raced. What world is this? What's happening? Could this really be my second life?

He stared at the gift pack: Unique Serum, 100× Rebate Card, Gol D. Roger's Powers, Kryptonian Bloodline — an awe-inspiring set of rewards. For a moment, he imagined himself invisible, untouchable, all-powerful.

Then the system's words echoed again, and his memories were forcibly erased.

Victor cried — a pure, helpless newborn cry — as the past life vanished completely.

Growing Up

Victor grew day by day.

At 2 years old, he began learning to read from the matron of the orphanage.

By 3, he spent hours immersed in the library, absorbing knowledge silently.

At 5 years old, he wrote his first Novel, Matron introduced a small, new publishing house the owner was her friend's brother.

The publishing house owner stared at the manuscript, then at the small boy sitting across from him.

"You wrote this?" the man asked incredulously.

"Yes, sir," Victor replied calmly.

"…All of it?"

"Yes."

The man laughed.

"Alright. Five percent royalty. We're a small house."

Victor nodded.

"But," he added, his tone suddenly firm, "I will keep merchandise, adaptation, and digital rights for all my books."

The room went silent.

The man blinked.

"You're five."

"And you'll make money," Victor said simply.

After a long pause—

"Fine," the man said. "Deal."

That book was Stuart Little.

1971

On 30th July 1971, Victor finished writing The Jungle Book. The upcoming publication of The Fellowship of the Ring was set for 31st July.

As he stepped out of his room, there was a soft tap-tap on the window.

A snowy owl hovered outside, clutching an envelope. Victor slowly opened the window. The owl flew in and gracefully landed on the table, dropping the letter before him.

He looked at the address: his exact floor and room at Wool's Orphanage.

With trembling hands, Victor opened the letter and read:

HOGWARTS SCHOOL of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY

Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore

(Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorcerer, Chief Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confederation of Wizards)

Dear Mr. Armstrong,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.

The term begins on 1st September. We await your owl by 31st July.

Yours sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall

Deputy Headmistress

He could hardly believe his eyes. Hogwarts. Magic was real.

Reply to Hogwarts

That night, Victor wrote a polite, careful reply:

Dear Professor McGonagall,

Thank you for your letter informing me of my acceptance to Hogwarts.

I must confess, I am surprised, as I know nothing of magic. If this is real, I am extremely honored to accept.

Could you kindly provide instructions for a student with no magical knowledge? Also, where can I purchase the supply list, and how much money is required? Do wizards use separate currency? If yes, can gold be exchanged?

Thank you for your time. I look forward to beginning my studies.

Yours sincerely,

Victor D. Armstrong

The owl took the letter, disappearing into the night.

Preparing for the Magical World

The next day, Matron handed Victor another letter.

Professor McGonagall explained the magical world:

Muggle: Non-magical person

Exchange rate: £4 = 1 Galleon; 1 Galleon = 17 Sickles = 493 Knuts

Coin metals: Galleons (gold), Sickles (silver), Knuts (bronze)

Galleons can be exchanged for gold and silver

£400 for 100 Galleons

Victor checked the time: 9 PM.

"Matron," he said calmly, "please buy £10,000 worth of gold for me."

The matron nodded. She didn't ask why — Victor had already dedicated himself to caring for the orphanage. While after five years, Victor arrived £600,000 mother donated to orphanage was spent Matron because Matron took in more kids. At the same time Victor also started earning money himself through his Novels Royalty fees.

After an hour, she returned with a bag weighing 18.38 kg, plus a gold biscuit in Victor's pocket.

"I'll return by evening," Victor said. "I have a surprise for you."

Journey to Diagon Alley

Victor hailed a taxi and soon arrived at the Leaky Cauldron, an old, shabby pub. He entered and asked the owner:

"Has Professor McGonagall arrived?"

The owner gestured toward a table. Victor approached and asked politely,

"Are you Professor McGonagall?"

The woman smiled.

"Yes. You must be Mr. Armstrong."

"Yes, ma'am," Victor replied.

"So, you came alone?"

"Yes."

"Very well," McGonagall said. "I will guide you to Diagon Alley and help buy your supplies for Hogwarts."

At the same time, Albus Dumbledore arrived at Wool's Orphanage. He inquired about Victor from staff and children, then quietly inspected Victor's room.

Books neatly arranged, typewriter on the desk, pages of manuscripts — all written by Victor himself. Dumbledore read the diary quickly.

Not like Voldemort… clever, disciplined, but no malice.

Satisfied for now, Dumbledore decided to observe more.

Gringotts Wizarding Bank

Victor followed McGonagall to Gringotts.

He remembered the wall pattern that revealed Diagon Alley and felt awe at the magical world.

Inside Gringotts, goblins scrutinized him.

"£400 for 100 Galleons," he said,

Goblin gave him 80 Galleons with cutting cost of pouch.

"Can Gold be exchanged for Galleons" he asked showing him Gold Biscuit

The goblin snatched it. "Where did you get this gold?"

Victor replied, "My Muggle family inheritance."

"Purity is high… 12 Galleons per gram," the goblin hissed.

"Too high. Let me check elsewhere."

"Wait… 14 Galleons, final," the goblin snapped.

"15," Victor said firmly.

"…Deal."

The goblin accepted the bag. 18.38 kg → 275,700 Galleons. Victor also opened a vault, depositing the gold.

He was now holding 1,000 Galleons, amazed from magic at how light it the pouch was.

Buying Supplies

McGonagall was astonished.

"Did you earn all this?" she asked.

"Yes," Victor replied simply. "I am an author. I've earned from royalties. The matron bought £10,000 of gold for me."

Next, McGonagall guided him to:

Trunk purchase

Madam Malkin's robes for all occasions

Books

Ollivander's wand shop

The Wands

Victor tested wands for over an hour. Nothing.

Then two reacted simultaneously:

15-inch rigid English Oak with Dragon heartstring

Phoenix feather core

Both chose Victor.

"I'll take both," Victor decided.

Ollivander said, "7 Galleons + 81 Galleons for the second wand. Discount only applies to the first."

Victor stepped outside, where McGonagall waited. While Olivander wrote letter to Dumbledore explaining how 2 wands choose Victor.

"Finally, you're out," she said.

"Sorry it took longer than expected," Victor replied.

"It's okay. Happens sometimes. Now, let's get your pet."

Victor chose a white snowy owl and named her Athena.
