Chapter 2 - Be... Become A Cultivator!?

"Hmm?"

Lu Shen opened his eyes to look at a completely unfamiliar bamboo ceiling.

"Huh?"

Standing up abruptly from the bed, a crisp crack sounded from his waist, forcing him to kneel on the spot.

"Huh!?"

The pain shot through his veins, delivering it directly to the head.

His fist clenched tightly, kneeling on the floor as the pain completely overtook his mind, slumping heavily to the floor with a thud.

Tilting head upward to the ceiling with a loud cry of pain escaping his throat.

Ahhhhh—

Lu Shen rolled on the ground, hitting the broken table and letting everything fall from it but this only heightened the pain, tears gradually dripping out of his eyes.

"Brother, are you okay? I brought some soup to cure you."

Suddenly, the door flung open, revealing a little girl. Hair bred in twin ponytails, wearing thin ragged robes and trousers, carrying some soup and herbs but when her eyes laid on the injured Lu Shen.

Panic immediately dawned.

Hurriedly kneeling beside him and asked with a voice filled with anxiety, "Brother, drink this, you would definitely be cured!"

"Sister!?"

"You should quickly drink the soup and medicine so you recover quickly."

Lu Shen froze in place, the pain was still there but an unusual clarity emerged in his eyes as memories assailed his mind.

Reincarnating into a poor household, where the mother was the breadwinner and his little sister the only one to care for him.

Their condition was extremely vulnerable.

Not to mention, he was a person who has been sick since birth, leaving their already worsened financial situation even more vulnerable.

His mother worked to the bones to be able to feed their family!

Lu Shen observed this with an extremely broken heart but could do little about it until now as he awakened his memory, even now he might not be able to do anything…

The little girl pushed the bowl of soup into his mouth, filled with anxiety and worry, "Drink it already brother."

Feeling the rim of the bowl poking his lips.

He was completely startled awake from his thoughts, standing abruptly from the floor and taking the bowl from her arms before gulping the soup down in big mouthfuls.

As the liquid travelled down the throat, his mind felt completely refreshed with renewed vigorous coursing along the veins.

"Brother, you should eat herbs as well," the girl smiled, handing him the roots and herbs gathered.

"..."

Lu Shen found it a little funny. This was definitely something she had taken from the mountains but wouldn't have much effect even if consumed.

"You don't want it?" The little girl's eyes were already filled with tears.

"Give it to me."

He casually extended his arms forward. Accepting it to at least keep this girl's heart.

The moment all of the herbs fell to his arms, a blue panel shot in front of his eyes.

[The Supreme Touching Grass System has awakened]

[You have gained +1 Constitution from touching Dew Grass]

"Eh?"

A bit of heat coursed along his veins, all the sickness leaving in the blink of an eye as if it never existed in the first place.

[Viewer: 0]

"Wtf?"

[Host, please do some fun activities to draw their attention]

"..."

The speechlessness in his heart was beyond belief.

What was this thing supposed to be?

The same thing that was seen in countless novels and now it was right in front. Suddenly the panel changed again, showing a virtual diagram of his entire body along with stats.

"This… this…"

Lu Shen's gaze fell on it. Leaving him completely speechless.

Was he supposed to be a protagonist here?

At this moment, another footstep ran from outside with a gentle voice brimming with worry.

"Lu Shen, are you okay?"

He turned towards the door and another round of tears blared through his eyes.

"What's wrong?"

His mother was a frail figure wearing rough dirty clothes, boring numerous holes. He could observe her arms still wrinkled and worn, likely from months of washing clothes and dishes to earn money.

Lu Shen felt his chest almost hollow and filled with aching pain.

"Why are you crying?"

She hurriedly ran up to him and rubbed along the eyes, wiping away the tears carefully and directly embracing, "don't cry, my son."

Seeing her brother cry, the little girl also cried and hugged both of them.

The three stayed in a warm embrace, hugging each other for warmth, each having their own worldly troubles.

Finally, once they separated, Lu Shen firmly stated with a fierce determination shining through his eyes, "Mother, you don't have to cry anymore, I will do everything for you from now on."

"Eh," Her eyes went wide and then started to chuckling heavily, "Haha, why are you saying that all of a sudden?"

"It's really true."

Thumping his chest rather proudly, Lu Shen stated, "I am no longer sick anymore and from now on, I will be able to gather money for you."

"..." She observed him for a moment, incredulous to the extreme.

"I am really serious, mother, check my pulse."

"Al… alright."

Her arms clenched around the wrist and gently closed eyes, feeling the rhythmic pulse of Lu Shen.

He eyed her with complete certainty.

She has also learned a bit of pharmacy and knew how to check pulses and make medicinal soup. That is how it was remotely possible to even keep him alive till now.

After sometime, her brows trembled, opening eyes with disbelief, murmuring without respite, "how could this be possible?"

"Mother, I want to be a cultivator now," Lu Shen firmly stated.

"A… a cultivator!?"

She shuttered.
