-Kyle Vale:
I couldn't sleep at all.
Not even for a few minutes.
Every time I closed my eyes, I saw him again.
Dad.
Covered in blood.
Lying on that bed so still it didn't even look real.
And then I'd hear Mom crying again in my head, or see the doctors moving around him, or hear Aurelian saying those words all over again.
He's gone.
I stared at the dark ceiling for what felt like hours, my arm wrapped tightly around Caspian while he slept beside me.
Or more like on top of me.
At some point during the night, he had moved closer in his sleep until he was almost fully pressed against my side. His head was resting on my chest now, right above my heartbeat, one of his arms wrapped tightly around my waist underneath the blanket while one of his legs was tangled with mine.
He was wearing my clothes.
My black shirt swallowed him completely, the sleeves covering half his hands, and my sweatpants were too big on him too. The sight should've made me smile more than it did.
