Chapter 11 - A Day Adrift In Gray

After an hour of painful waiting, the group and Bastian finally received news about Wyatt's condition. They rushed toward the doctor, surrounding him, their voices trembling as they asked for answers.

"How is Wyatt? Is he going to be okay?" They asked with a concerned expression on their face.

"The bleeding has been successfully controlled, and he is not in a dangerous condition at this time," the doctor said gently, after seeing the fear on their faces.

The whole group felt a wave of relief after hearing the doctor's words. However, Baek Ji-soo still carried a heavy burden of guilt in her heart, unable to find peace even after the good news.

For a moment, the room seemed to breathe easier as the group relaxed at the news of Wyatt's condition. Relief lit up their faces, laughter and tears mingling in a fragile moment of hope. But the doctor's expression darkened, his eyes growing serious. He took a slow, heavy breath, and the sudden weight in his voice cut through the room like a blade as he said,

"But the bad news is… his right kidney was destroyed by the dagger and cannot be saved. He will have to live with only one kidney for the rest of his life." The doctor's words hung heavily in the room. Without another word, he turned and walked back into the emergency room, leaving a stunned silence in his wake.

Silence filled the room after the doctor spoke. Everyone stood frozen in shock, unable to say a word. The heavy weight of fear and sadness hung in the air. Daigo felt his heart break as guilt washed over him. His legs gave way, and he fell to his knees, crying loudly and blaming himself again and again for what had happened to Wyatt.

"FUC—! If I were stronger, none of this would have happened!" Daigo shouted, his voice breaking as he struggled to hold back his tears.

On the other hand, Ji-soo's face went pale, her body trembling as the news sank in. She slowly sank to the floor, her hands shaking, frozen in shock at what had happened to Wyatt.

Amelia froze for a moment, shocked by the news. She quickly turned to Ji-soo, wanting to make sure she was okay, but what she saw made her heart sink. Ji-soo's face was pale and tense, her hands trembling, and guilt seemed to weigh her down like a heavy stone, and she quickly took her hand and said;

"Hey, are you okay? Ji-soo, talk to me!" Amelia shouted, her voice trembling with worry. She stepped closer, reaching out as if she could pull Ji-soo out of the dark storm of guilt and shock that had overtaken her. Her heart pounded in her chest, each second stretching painfully as she desperately tried to get a response, her eyes scanning Ji-soo's pale, trembling face for any sign that her friend was still present, still reachable.

When Amelia realised Ji-soo wasn't responding, panic rising in her chest, she quickly turned to the others. 'Please… someone help me! Look after Ji-soo!' she pleaded, her voice trembling with fear and desperation.

Just as Amelia called for help, Ji-soo's body suddenly collapsed to the ground. Her eyes were tightly shut, and it was clear she had lost consciousness. Panic surged through the group as they rushed her to the room.

An hour passed, and the room was thick with silence. None of them could find the words to speak after everything that had happened. Obi noticed the heavy atmosphere pressing down on everyone and tried to lighten the mood by carefully changing the topic, hoping to ease the tension.

"Guys, come on… don't be so down. At least our friend is still alive, right?" he said with a nervous laugh, his eyes filled with unease. But no one answered. The silence remained, heavy and unbroken, as if his words had never been spoken."

After a long moment of silence, Amelia finally spoke. She said she had had enough and wanted to take revenge on the assassin. Turning to Bastian, she asked for his permission, her eyes burning with anger. But Bastian quickly replied,"

"What are you planning to do?' Bastian asked sharply. 'Do you really think you can defeat them by yourself?' His voice was firm, cutting through the heavy air as he stared at Amelia after hearing her bold declaration."

Amelia reply,

"So we're just going to sit here and do nothing while our friend suffers?" she shouted, anger burning in her eyes as she faced Bastian, fighting back her tears."

After hearing her words, Bastian fell silent, unable to find a reply. The room sank into a heavy stillness, thick with tension. Then, the door slowly opened, and a man dressed in a navy blue tuxedo stepped inside. His presence drew everyone's attention as he calmly said,

"Amelia, don't push your luck too far. Even though you have become my greatest disappointment, I still do not wish to see my daughter die so foolishly," the man said coldly as he walked into the room. His sharp words cut through the silence, sending a chill down everyone's spine.

The man in the tuxedo was none other than Steven De Marat, the president of Noveum Academy and Amelia's father. His sudden appearance stunned everyone in the room, leaving them frozen in shock as the weight of his presence settled heavily over them.

"Good afternoon, everyone. Most of you probably don't know me. My name is Steven De Marat, the president of this academy. It's a pleasure to meet you all, Steven said, a faint, controlled smile resting on his lips."

"After his introduction, everyone quickly stood up and greeted him respectfully. 'Good afternoon to you too, Mr Steven De Marat!' they said in unison, their voices formal and tense."

After greeting the president, Bastian stepped forward, confusion written across his face. 'May I ask… what are you doing here, sir?' he said, his voice tinged with uncertainty.

"I just received a report from my secretary about what happened to one of your students during a mission," he said, his voice calm but serious. 'I rushed here immediately to see all of you and assess the situation.'

While the president continued speaking with the others, Daigo's eyes were drawn to Amelia, huddled in the corner. Her face had gone deathly pale, as if all the life had been drained from her, and her eyes stared blankly ahead, every word from Steven seeming to pierce her like a blade. She looked like a ghost trapped in her own fear, frozen and silent, unable to react or escape the weight of the moment.

"It's shameful that he experienced this on his very first day at school," Steven said, taking a small, measured breath. But before the words could fully settle, Daigo stepped forward, his eyes burning with determination, and said,

'Excuse me, sir,' Daigo said, his voice a mix of confusion and anger. 'I don't know who you are, but why did you call Amelia your greatest disappointment earlier? Are you really her father?"

Everyone in the room froze, stunned by Daigo's bold words toward the president. Before the tension could escalate, Bastian stepped forward and said,

"Daigo, watch your words! That's our president, you fool," Bastian shouted, his face flushed with anger at Daigo's audacity.

"It's okay, Bastian, I got this," said Steven while touching Bastian's shoulder.

"So, you're Daigo Kaminari from Oura Nation, right?" Steven said, a faint, excited smile playing on his lips. "Bastian told me an interesting fact about you, and it even made me watch your last match in the entrance exam."

After speaking, Steven's expression suddenly changed. His eyes widened, and a bright spark of excitement lit up his face, as if he had just uncovered a treasure beyond value. His lips curved into a small, almost mischievous smile, and for a moment, the weight of the tense room seemed to shift, all attention drawn to the rare, unguarded thrill shining in his gaze.
