Chapter 174 - Chapter 88 – The First Emperor’s Echo

The obsidian shard hummed against Wei Chen's palm, vibrating with a frequency that made his teeth ache. He stood atop a floating stone platform suspended over an abyss where clouds swirled like boiling soup. Su Mei and Cold Ice Saintess flanked him; the former radiated heat while the latter exhaled frosty mist that settled on the ground as diamond dust.

"Listen to it," Wei Chen said, closing his eyes against the pulse of the voice inside his skull. The words weren't spoken aloud but felt like pressure behind his eardrums. "It knows you." This was Beat One: Resonance Locking. He guided Su Mei into a seated meditation pose beside him while Cold Ice Saintess placed her hands on their shoulders, forming a triangle of energy. Her ice essence cooled the heat radiating from his core to prevent it from shattering under the void's pressure. She leaned forward as he pressed inside her slowly, guiding the key's vibration through their connected meridians so she could act as a buffer between him and the abyss below them.

"Steady," Wei Chen growled, gripping her waist firmly as they synchronized breaths to match the rhythm of the shard's hum. The friction sparked without sound; instead of heat or light, a low thrumming noise filled the space around them that felt like standing next to a giant drum being struck once every hour. Her inner muscles tightened around him in time with his heartbeat before she collapsed onto her back against the stone floor where frost bloomed instantly under their bodies.

"Good girl," he whispered when they separated, watching frost crystals form on his skin as if reality itself was trying to freeze his presence there. This was Beat Two: Echo Mapping. They shifted attention toward a group of disciples kneeling nearby who were practicing Wei Chen's Void stance but failing because the energy felt too heavy for untrained bodies. One young man stumbled forward and reached out with trembling hands, catching a drop of void water that had fallen from his own sweat before he suddenly gasped as his meridians opened wide to accept it fully without burning up—a breakthrough triggered by proximity to Wei Chen's stabilized core.

Wei Chen stepped forward, raising the obsidian shard high above his head so its reflection caught moonlight despite being at night in a sky devoid of stars. "Hold," Cold Ice Saintess commanded as three shadowy figures materialized from the ground beneath them, their bodies made of solidified darkness rather than flesh or bone. These were not disciples; they were guardians of the Gateway who had been sealed away for centuries until Wei Chen's core woke them up with his presence alone.

The leader lunged forward, claws extended like scythes carved from starlight itself while Su Mei leaped back and unleashed chains that wrapped around its ankles before snapping it violently into a wall made of ice she conjured instantly. The impact shattered the stone beneath their feet but Wei Chen didn't fall; instead he anchored himself by pressing his feet deeper into the void until roots grew out of them to lock him in place against gravity's pull as they moved through the room without burning up.

He pulled out and pressed his forehead against hers again, breathing hard as roots from his veins lashed out like tiny serpents before vanishing into her skin like ink in water. The platform beneath them shuddered once more but this time a massive shadow form rose above the gateway with eyes that blinked open like shutters in a storm—this one wore armor etched with runes of the First Emperor who sealed it centuries ago.

Wei Chen turned back to Cold Ice Saintess whose eyes were now glowing faintly white instead of blue—a sign her cultivation had advanced through direct contact with his void core during their intimacy ritual while she held him steady against the abyssal wind that threatened to tear them apart mid-air if they hadn't locked together just seconds before.
