Chapter 43 - Volume 2: Chapter 7 — The Missing Piece

The debate was only five days away.

Five days to prepare.

Five days to prove which group deserved to represent the school.

Five days before everything changed.

Lucien's group gathered after class, surrounded by notes and unfinished plans.

The atmosphere was tense.

Everyone was working.

Yet something still felt wrong.

"We're missing something."

The voice came from the back of the room.

Several students looked up.

"What do you mean?" Eli asked.

The student hesitated.

"I don't know."

He rubbed the back of his neck.

"Our proposal is solid."

He pointed toward the stack of documents.

"The research is good."

Another student nodded.

"The structure is good too."

Yet nobody looked convinced.

Lucien remained silent.

Because he understood.

The proposal had logic.

It had evidence.

It had preparation.

But it lacked impact.

The room fell quiet again.

Nobody had an answer.

Then—

The classroom door opened.

Every head turned.

Aria Vale stepped inside.

The mysterious transfer student paused briefly as dozens of eyes landed on her.

She didn't seem nervous.

If anything, she looked completely unaffected.

The room became even quieter.

Eli blinked.

"Aria?"

She looked around.

"I was asked to deliver these."

She placed a folder on the nearest desk.

Simple.

Direct.

Yet before she could leave, her eyes drifted toward the papers covering Lucien's desk.

She stopped.

For a moment, she studied them.

Then she frowned slightly.

Lucien noticed.

"You have something to say?"

Several students immediately looked between them.

Aria remained silent for a second.

Then she spoke.

"You're preparing for the debate."

It wasn't a question.

Lucien nodded.

Aria glanced at the proposal again.

"Your argument is strong."

A few students smiled proudly.

Then she added:

"But nobody will remember it."

The smiles disappeared.

Silence filled the room.

"What?"

Eli looked confused.

Aria pointed toward the proposal.

"You have facts."

She pointed again.

"Evidence."

Another page.

"Structure."

Then she lowered her hand.

"But where's the reason people should care?"

Nobody answered.

Because nobody had thought about it.

Including Lucien.

Aria's gaze moved around the room.

"Winning an argument isn't just about being right."

She looked directly at Lucien.

"It's about making people believe you're right."

For the first time all afternoon—

Lucien had no response.

The room remained completely silent.

Then slowly—

Very slowly—

A small smile appeared on Lucien's face.

Not because she was wrong.

Because she was right.

And he knew it.

Across the room, students immediately began discussing new ideas.

New approaches.

New possibilities.

The energy changed.

The missing piece had finally been found.

Aria turned toward the door.

"Good luck."

Then she left.

The door closed behind her.

Eli stared after her.

"She just solved a problem we've been stuck on for two days."

Nobody disagreed.

Lucien looked at the doorway for a moment longer.

Then he opened his notebook.

"Let's start over."

The group immediately sat up straighter.

For the first time since the competition began—

They weren't just preparing to win.

They were preparing to be remembered.
