Chapter 199 - Chapter 200: The Dual-Layered Blade

"Steady," the Elder murmured from the sidelines, his eyes narrowing as he watched the boy's technique. "Don't force it too fast, or the core will fracture."

Yoriichi did not rush. He gripped his hammer with both hands, channeling his liquid Dou Qi.

He brought the hammer down with calculated force.

BOOM!

The impact didn't shatter the core. Yoriichi's dense Dou Qi acted as a physical suppressor. The kinetic force of the hammer strike violently crushed the water energy directly into the microscopic folds of the solar steel.

The Elder watched with keen interest.

'He is hammering the elemental energy into the molecular structure of the steel,' the grandmaster smith observed. 'A direct, physical infusion rather than an alchemical array. Brutal, but effective if his control holds.'

It was a grueling methodology, one that demanded absolute physical endurance and microscopic precision.

Yoriichi continued his relentless assault. Clang! Clang! Clang!

With every strike, he forced the blue energy of the Salamander Core deeper into the glowing red steel. He stretched the billet, drawing it out into the long, curved, elegant shape of a traditional Katana.

It was a battle of attrition. The metal resisted. The opposing elements clashed. But Yoriichi, drawing upon centuries of sword mastery, bent them to his will.

Hours bled away.

Outside the private chamber, in the massive subterranean cavern of the Earthfire Pavilion, the deafening symphony of hundreds of students hammering slowly began to die down. The afternoon shifted into evening, and evening bled into the deep darkness of night.

One by one, the exhausted apprentices packed up their tools and ascended the basalt stairs to return to their dormitories.

Soon, the vast pavilion was entirely empty, illuminated only by the glowing orange magma trenches.

Yet, inside the private chamber, the fire still roared, and the hammer still fell.

The Elder had not moved from his spot, quietly observing the red-haired youth's tireless dedication to the craft. He appreciated the boy's unyielding focus and the precise rhythm of his strikes.

Finally, as the midnight hour approached, the rapid hammering slowed.

Yoriichi stood before the anvil, his chest heaving with slow breaths. His body was pushed near its physical limit.

Resting on the anvil was a perfectly shaped katana blade. It was glowing a dull orange, radiating a balanced pressure.

It was time for the final step. The quench.

Yoriichi picked up the blade with his tongs. He didn't move toward the standard barrels of quenching oil. Instead, he channeled the last drops of his Dou Qi, creating a localized, freezing mist around the blade.

He plunged the glowing steel into the mist.

FSSSHHHHH!

A cloud of white steam filled the chamber. The sound of the metal rapidly cooling and contracting echoed sharply.

For a long minute, the chamber was silent, save for the crackling of the earth-fire.

Slowly, the steam began to clear, pulled away by the ventilation shafts.

Yoriichi stood tall. In his right hand, he held the completed blade, aiming it toward the fire to inspect it.

The Elder stepped forward to examine the result.

The katana was a deep, polished charcoal-black. But it was the hamon—the temper line along the razor-sharp edge—that stood out.

Because Yoriichi had fused the solar ore with the abyssal core, the hamon was an intricate pattern of deep crimson mixed with swirling azure blue, resembling a flowing river of fire and water along the edge of the blade.

"Hmm," the Elder grunted, his raspy voice showing quiet approval.

He stepped closer, sensing the balanced pressure radiating from the steel. He reached out a calloused finger, lightly testing the flat of the blade.

"The edge alignment is solid. The tensile density is excellent," the Elder noted, looking at Yoriichi with a gaze of genuine respect.

"You managed the fusion well, Xiao Ning. Forging them into a unified entity without the core shattering takes remarkable control." The old man nodded. "The spiritual conductivity of this steel is high; it will channel Dou Qi with minimal resistance."

"It is finished," Yoriichi stated calmly, lowering the blade. He felt a resonant connection to the weapon. It was a sturdy conduit, capable of handling the backlash of his techniques.

"Indeed it is," the Elder replied, a small smile cracking his soot-stained face. "You have a true talent for the forge, boy. This is a very fine weapon. Without relying on an array, you've created a blade that rivals the work of seasoned smiths."

The Elder looked Yoriichi in the eyes, rendering his verdict.

"This is a Peak Tier 3 weapon. It will serve you well against Da Dou Shi level opponents."

Yoriichi looked down at the blade, the crimson and azure hamon reflecting in his stoic eyes. He gave the sword a single swing through the empty air.

Swish.

The air parted cleanly, leaving a faint vacuum in the blade's wake.

Yoriichi offered a polite bow of gratitude to the grandmaster who had allowed him the use of the forge. The sun had long since set, but within the depths of the Earthfire Pavilion, a new, reliable blade had been born.
