It began on a Monday morning at Bremin High School, a place that had never known silence.
The bell had already rung for the first period, yet the corridors were still alive with noise. Students laughed loudly, lockers slammed shut, and teachers shouted reminders about assignments and lateness. Outside, the football field echoed with shouts and whistles as a few students skipped class.
Morgan walked through the compound with her bag hanging loosely from her shoulder. She hated Mondays, but today felt normal annoyingly normal.
She met Mark at the entrance of the library.
"You're late," he said with a grin.
"You say that every day," Morgan replied, rolling her eyes.
They sat together at the far end of the library, pretending to read while whispering about exams, gossip, and weekend plans. The quiet atmosphere felt comforting, almost safe.
Then the first scream came.
It was faint, like someone joking.
Morgan lifted her head. "Did you hear that?"
Mark frowned. "Probably someone shouting on the field."
They went back to talking until another scream followed.

A boy near the lockers froze mid-step. His eyes widened, then softened. A slow smile spread across his face.

He vanished.
His body broke apart into fine dust that floated briefly in the air before settling on the floor.
